Niu sent out the Niu KQi3 Max electric scooter to me to review and I've been riding it around Victoria all week :) The ride was terrific on smooth roads but not so great on the bumps...manageable. The speed was decent at around 30kph with this big guy on it. The steering and stability were excellent and the noise from the motor was almost silent...extremely quiet. I found the rubber on the tires to be excellent under braking and in the corners...I really liked them :)
As to the folding mechanism, it's one of the best I've ever tried. I love the push button release, it's original, sturdy and it works so well. The scooter has an IP 54 rating so you're good in the occasional puddle/spot of rain (Dirt, dust, and splash resistant). The KQi3 Max Electric Scooter also has an intelligent regenerative braking which is smooth and puts a bit of energy back into your battery on steeper hills :)
The lights are great and the front light being at waist height is so perfect :)
The innovative app is required to start the scooter the first time and you will need to do a quick training session which I think is smart for new riders. Something I haven't seen before but which I think is a smart safety process.
Big Guy Approved!

Love your cut-aways to the classic movie scenes 😃 Nice review!
Glad you enjoyed it! I had fun editing this one for sure :) :) Cheers Tone :)
Michael's shirt is everything! Loved the Victoria scenery. What a beautiful day! The otter was adorable.
Thanks so much sweetie :) :) !!
Great review! I'm waiting for the max to go on sale again this coming holiday.
@Tye fingers crossed for you :)
I think I'll do a livestream tomorrow or Wednesday on my Amazon page...and I'll be talking about both the Pro and Max :) :)
I'll post the link on my community tab on this channel before I go live...but you'll be able to see the recording if it helps :)

That's so good to hear...what do you use it for? Work, commute?
👍🏽love mine, very very solid
Good to hear @Jersey Style :) :)
What do you use it for...fun/commuting?
@@TimsElectric im retired, so Just for FUN 👍🏽😂
sounds like a fun way to get around town :) :) Hope the weather holds for you on the East Coast :)
I'm buying this scooter because of this review. Thanks again Tim!
Hope you enjoy it Grant!!! :) Cheers
Just ordered...on sale now at best buy for $750. Thanks for the review!
@SonyBaba08 that's awesome :) :)
It's $799 now.
Whow i paid 850 free shipping and thought i had a deal.
Sorry to break the news but, many NIU KQi3 Max version owners experienced throttle issues within the first two months, including me. I was totally happy with my Max scooter during the first 5 weeks but, then had error code 03 til the throttle stopped working completely. I got authorized for repair, shipped it to the 3rd party repair provider, BESENDER.. After 10 days of waiting, just been informed the throttle part is back ordered for another 2 weeks. So it will be 3 to 4 weeks total for my scooter throttle to be replaced. Way to long!
@Kevin Nguyen that seriously sucks...so sorry to hear...yuck....glad to hear they're trying to look after you but 3-4 weeks seems too long as well... :(
Did you like it before lol ? :)
I think that may have been addressed. I emailed them to find out and asked if they could inspect my unit before they ship it to see if it has the faulty throttle. I also asked them to make sure they didn't send me a returned unit. I just email them now so won't know for 12-24hrs as of this posting.
I got mine a few days ago and man it was an upgrade coming from an unagi.
wow....so awesome you're enjoying it :)
I liked how you said you were exactly 260. I'm exactly 220 and even tho the lower models technically can handle that I would have to consider gear I was wearing, stuff I am carrying, etc. So opted for the NIU KQI3.
Awesome @Del-Canada, I am now exactly 265lbs lol...I need to eat more veggies :)
lol otter approved ....lol awesome bro and a good video
@Darren Jackson thank you :) :) so much fun making these videos...what do you ride on at present?
Question about the latch on the stem. It looks like it's all plastic, is the little "claw" that grabs into the stem (clamps it down) also made of plastic? Thanks for the review!
great question, I just went and checked :)
It's a robust plastic..not metal...I don't see it breaking though...it's strong :)
I think if I took a hammer to it I could break it with some big swings but for what's its designed for I think it's great.
Still my favourite folding mechanism for a mid to lightweight scooter :)
Great review. I'm left wanting to know more about the range? What's the true verdict? It's advertised at up to 40 mile range.
Awesome @andrewanadal, sorry ...with me on it less than half that :(
Have you run into any issues in general scooting around Victoria? I have one of these arriving on Monday and I'm curious since they're not technically legal here. My son uses a Gyrocopter to go to school and has never had an issue.
@Craig Fraser awesome to hear from you. I have had zero issues..and haven't heard of any issues here on the island. My theory is that traffic enforcement isn't going to have an issue if you're going with the flow. As such I don't typically pass anyone on the Goose or ride at speeds that would be quicker than an Ebike....plus I'm chicken to go faster than 30kph :) What did you order?
@@TimsElectric thanks for the feedback. I figured as long as I’m not stupid about it there will be plenty of irresponsible e-bike drivers to draw peoples wrath. I got the KQi3 Max. Should be fun to scoot with the kiddo.
@@craigfraser8708 I really think you're right :) plus the Max is a hoot...terrific range, solid, modern and that folding mechanism is awesome :) :)
Do you have to do a lot of mantainence for the tires? Worried about the tires
no issues or maintenance done so far :)
On NIU Canada website it says it’s 100kg max weight. So does their manual, any idea why? I’m also a bigger guy looking for a scooter
that's interesting...I don't know why....I thought it was 265lbs ....hummm...I've got no issues with my Max :) and I'm 265lbs
Hi, Great review for big guys. Your 265lbs and I am 220lbs. I figured I need to buy a 40+ range just to get 25miles out of a scooter. Once you register the scooter through the app, can you delete it? Will all the functions work without the app? (lights, speed mode, all work properly with the button on the scooter display? Can you jail break the speed governor and go faster(by switching to a country where there is no speed limit or ....)How?
@David S...short answer, I don't know...you do need the Ap to get the scooter going...but I'm unlikely to delete the app now that it's connected...until I sell it I suppose. As to reprogramming the controller, again, sorry I don't know...as it's not something I would do either lol...sorry I wasn't more helpful :)
The latest version of the app allows you to set a custom speed. The North American version of the Max allows the fastest speed (around 23 mph).
You don’t need the app after initial setup unless you are using features like locking, changing zero start or changing the custom speeds.
@@thevoiceofreason4104 thanks so much for helping :) much appreciated :)
The same concern here. I'm 220 and wanted to know a realistic range. Did you end up getting it? if so what kind of range are you getting?
good day i have question, is KQI3 MAX a good hill climber?
it has a good motor but if you want a good climber then you need to look at a dual motor scooter ..if you want more help on picking a scooter perfect for you then message me on my website where I have a form to fill out and then I can send you my personal pick :) timselectric.ca
Great review. I’m looking for a scooter that can hold my 265 pound. Any recommendation? Thanks
God bless
It depends on the range you're looking for and a few other factors. If you go to my website, I have a form that you can fill out and it gets sent to me ...I can then reply with my best recommendation..if you think it might help :) Cheers timselectric.ca
@@TimsElectric Great! Thanks
cheers :)
Very important. My issue with scooters is always going on up hills. My current one is useless and can’t go up any kind of hill. What’s it like for you?
@S DC super awesome question :) Basically if you have hills and you're a big guy like me....you need twin motors...I find even twin 500W motors will tackle most hills but I'd look at dual motor scooters for sure :) I need to do a video on this exact question...I'll figure it out and film one soon...off to referee a soccer game...on my dual motor scooter as there's a big hill on the way to the University :)
@@TimsElectric this is by far the most important question to be tackled so i was surprised it wasnt covered... in reality most of the scooters work fine on flat roads... but when it gets to any sort of uphill - the standard ones struggle... if im gonn acommit 800$+ i want to make sure it can go up hills.. otherwise they're pointless and i have to stay walking with it...
makes sense....thanks for sharing your thoughts :) Cheers
@Jose Ramos I'd love to...can you send me a link so I can check it out?
black squirrels! I've a few near my work. But thats about it.
that's so funny that you saw them... they're so cute :)
For replacement parts where can you get it? Tires brakes etc...
terrific question @Livinlife818 , I would reach out to Niu :)
I just bought one for my son is the reason I asked. Thanks
Usually the seller will have a parts link on their website :)
Waiting for mine to be delivered. Can you suggest the best lock for this? :)
Here's my Amazon list with updated accessories ...I recommend the Kryptonite ...chain if it's too heavy the U lock...but a short chain the Niu would be ideal :)

Hi, one off your left handelbar screws is missing. Be careful 😮
thank you @Micha62er
Any hills with it?
@Scott Johnson, I'm thinking of doing a rage test and hitting some hills to see how it performs...I'll do a short video for CZcams and share my results if you think it would help :)
Hi Tim! As a big guy like you I tried the Niu Max and my opinion in hills above 20% it's too slow... did you tried too ??
20 degrees is too steep for single motor scooter...slight hills no problem but if you have steeper hills then I recommend a dual motor scooter :)
@@TimsElectric Thanks Tim! 😁
@@smartbusiness891 happy to help :)
@@TimsElectric Hi Tim I've got a question! Do you think that the segway ninebot g30 max is more powerful and better than the niu kqi3 max? can the kqi3 max handle better hills? thank you!
@@Burger_fort my honest thoughts are: if you have hills, then neither, especially if you're a bigger guy...dual motor is the way to go...if it's the occasional hill then maybe the Segway ...but range Niu....suspension ....I would look at the Apollo City Pro :) ...it has it all :)...I reviewed it too :)...it's my go to scooter right now :)
Hi how do I change gEARS ?
power button cycles through the power options :)
Most punctures are more than just a pin prick and that is what the self sealing is designed to do, address those. Chances are it won't actually seal anything significant. So that is more of a gimmick to sell more. But it wasn't enough to stop me from buying it earlier. lol
Makes sense @Del-Canada, hope you're loving it :)
NIU should produce this scooter with suspension for a more comfortable ride on bumpy surface as a commuter scooter it would be a winner for just over a grand.Having recieved mine a week ago it's my only complaint, but hey i bought a scooter with no suspension so who's fault is that.
totally agree @user-fn9vj3pc7t, the units are made well, love the folding and locking mechanism :) but having suspension would really take it to the next level :)
I’m 5’7, and 240. Will the pro or max be better for me? I’m torn on which to get cause weight
Awesome question @seahawktd5224, I'd go with the Max based on your size :)
The extra 100W on the hills and battery being a bit bigger will be of help :)
Cheers
@@TimsElectric thanks! I will prob be buying one on Friday!
Hope it's a good fit for you :) The folding mechanism is so smooth :)
@@TimsElectric yeah I’ve been torn between the kqi3 max or the inmotion S1.
The Max is awesome...but no suspension...but if your trails/roads are smooth then it's an awesome unit.
But if you need suspension then the Inmotion would be my choice...the steering angle is a bit unusual to get used to...but otherwise I really liked it.
Did you see the video I released this week?
The Niu is built so well...the folding mechanism is so good :) so if you have to carry it and fold it up lots then maybe the Niu :)
Also 48v instead of 36v
yes indeed @Corhndog, cheers
What's the top speed of this and the distance in real world. 😁😁
You're right I do need to do a range test...I think the top speed was about 30 kph...I'll do a short once the rain stops :)
@@carrickdubya4765 I'd look at the Ghost, Varla Eagle One, or Splach Titan :)
@@carrickdubya4765 cheers :)
Victoria BC?
yes indeed @k_scan1128, BC :)
If this scooter was offered with suspension for a couple hundred more it would be untouchable.
I think you're right @user-fn9vj3pc7t
I wish they made a scooter with an adult sized motor and fast charging
Awesome @SalamHerbs-db5nt, you could look at some bigger ones like the Wolf King GT PRO :)
Okai neon pro or niu kqi3 max
Hi Danny, I haven't tried an Okai yet...I reached out but they didn't reply to me ...my channel is too small I guess :)
Love the Max though...but if you have a bigger budget and want suspension the the Apollo City Pro is smooth :)
good e scooter, but you will get $1k fine driving on the public area in Australia
@Michelle Lin I am so sorry to hear that. It's so disappointing when local governments don't support micro mobility like Ebikes...especially in places like Australia where you have so many solar options that you could power a scooter like this for very little money and take a car of the road..especially in the larger cities :)
In germany this can online drive 20 kmh
Interesting @alexplace1465, is that a local law?
Did you know that you can unlock the speed to 38kmh or 23.6mph :D
I did not...how?
@@TimsElectric youtube is deleting my links :D
@@Vilhozi that's weird...can you email me? timselectric.ca
