That was one of the most complete descriptions of a tire on yt. He covered a lot of points, not just for performance, but addressing comfort concessions as well. A lot a "reporters" will always say positive comments about something because they're being sponsored by the manufacturer of the product. But tread life was consistently mentioned, and that wasn't too much of a concern considering it's a performance tire. Thanks for the post!
Excellent review! I've had a very hard time finding 20" R compound tires, despite the current crop of sports cars all using 20" wheels. The R888 is the only tire I have seen that has useable sizes in 20" for both front and rear. the R888 was an unknown for me before, but now I feel more confident about buying them!
I've used them for both street and track (road coarse) days. They offer amazing grip over any street tire and on the track they give a lot of feedback. My first time on the track with them I was really impressed. I have several videos on my page where I used them. The problem is that they are now hard to find.
Everyone says they're noisy. I've had yoko's, hancooks, falkens, MT's, michelin, pirellis, bridgestone, federals and these tires are the quietest tire I've ever used, Especially while spinning and cornering. Mine gripped so good all the way to the belts I didn't even realise.
I'll vouch for the R888 any day. I use them on my Ford Fiesta ST150 when driving Club Rally events (Closed circuits/time trials usually in industial areas) in Denmark. And on that car, under those conditions, the R888 really makes one hell of a difference. Only two things to remember with them; Keep them warm and adjust the tire pressure accordingly to road conditions.
Irakli Mamageshvili Well, of course they can be used in the city. But since they are semi-slick race tires, expect them to be rather noisy and be careful on wet roads. The R888 is in my opinion a really good tire and yes, it can be used for everyday driving, as long as you remember what it's really designed for :-)
As he is talking about the "stiff ride" you can hear the vibrato in his voice going over the bumps!!! 5000-10000 k's does not seem like much, but that is likely still 3 -4 years or more for a club reg 90-day a year "TOY". For my car, that is roughly $250-$300 per year for tyres. Not bad considering the performance. I don't drive in the wet anyway, my car currently tries to kill me, and itself, if I do!!! (note to self, fix rear end toe-in and negative camber)
i drive a hyundai accent. mind you it is runing 360bhp and suprised a DB9 driver when he throught i was playing around and when last thing he seen was my 1.3 badge (2.0 fully forged custom mounted beta II engine)
Awaiting new Toyo R888r for an evo viii 400hp.Since i never used such tyres before and they are going to be used mainly on street and little on track any info about the tyres is appreciated.Weather conditions almost always dry! If someone knows how to keep the tyres in good condition while in garage please answer!
How are these tires for drag racing? I'm thinking of using them on my SL65, mostly on street, but for occasional drag use. What are the expected 60' with this tire?
Question: I have a fwd car with close to 500whp which I do take to the track in the summer.. Would these work well on a quarter mile track that uses VHT or would they be worthless? Obviously good road course tires, which we also have starting this year! I'm kind of looking for a tire that'll stick under both conditions and yet can be driven on the street, and actually still get traction on regular roads, both in a straight line drag race type of scenario and also cornering. I think these might work well for my purposes but I'd like to be sure before I buy more tires that can't handle the power. Thanks!
I have not driven them in the wet, but I can tell you they would NOT be good. They do have a few tread lines but not enough to move significant water. I can't say enough good things about these tires for the money. They got me through one track season, I don't drive them on the regular roads. I have a heavy 3,900lb S4 with 420hp. My car understeers a lot, and the sidewalls of these tires are great for the abuse my car delivers. They handle high temps as well. Excellent track tire, not road
The stiff sidewall is annoying contrary to what the reviewer states. They take a lot longer than 1min to warmup. Try about 5 0-180kph blasts and they are then at operation temperature putter around for 1 minute my arse. The next thing is they really do only last about 5000 street kms before they are illegally bald. The next 5000kms is great because they are so close to slicks but the compound has gone hard. The fact is they start at 5mm tread, so you only have 4mm to wear
OK WHAT TIRE DID THIS R888 REPLACE? I HAD THE OLDER MODEL WITH SIMILAR TRED DESIGN BUT I FORGOT WHAT IT WAS CALLED IT HAD 88 IN IT BUT CANT REMEMBER ANYBODY KNOW???
do you drive them in wet too? how it is to drive with them? I want to buy these tires too but i dont know if it really that good. My car is front wheel drive and has at the moment 167hp. But I want get a turbo, maybe bi-turbo in my V6 and get 280-330 hp. But this is still only my vision, and need some time to realize it =)

You're in Mighty Car Mods!
The grip generated by these tyres in dry conditions is really something and they can be relied upon get you home safely on normal roads.

Thank you for the great insight and recommendations.
thepassionofthegoose Thank you! I hope you find just the right tyre for your car :)
Disruptedable are this tires practical in the city?

Disruptedable in other words they are terrible for everyday rd driving but hell a good on track! Lol
I just bought these tires, thanks for the review!
My brother has had a set of these for about a year now. He's been to the track about 5 times, been skidding etc and theres still heaps of tread.
The fun part with R888 is that they grip better when the treads are gone..:) I gained 2 seconds on a 1.9 km track using "worn out" R888's.
A fantastic tire. I use them myself on my Lotus Elise
next level for you yokohama advan a friend is using them on a lotus exige 240 and they kick ass however very pricy!
TOYO IS THE BEST PERIOD!! BAR NON NO JOKE DRIVEN TO PREFORM!
Nice review. Thank you for posting.
Yes ive got them and thay even out performa some of Toyos road tyres in the wet.

To the MR2 SW20 turbo rev3 IS THE BEST TIRES!

@EfiniSeven the speed limit were I live is most the time 80,or 70

Are there Toyo tires that could suffice for all weather driving on a 2016 Corvette Stingray Z06?

Anybody used those for Autocross? Do you think they are suitable for that or just roadcoarse?
The Nitto 555R2 is a better choice for street/track use.

@fucksalt669 i can assure you they don't, surprisingly not too bad in the wet, but then again i don't drive like a maniac when its wet
im on the market for tires can you elaborate im also considering nittos
Does anyone know if they hydroplain bad on the highway?
do you drive them in wet too?
how it is to drive with them?
I want to buy these tires too but i dont know if it really that good.

You'd be better off with the Toyo Proxes TQ competition drag tires. Street legal too.
Whats better these or the Michelin Sport cups.
i have a rx8 and i live in nj would these tires work for me??
nice
did he use the same tires the entire vid
fantastiche. ....
From what i hear they last MAX 2000km
Holy shit this video is old
Lmao. The tires aren't reforming from getting hot. You're picking up rubber from a track that's been rubbered by other cars.
Everyone is waiting to die my friend.
LOL that car could have 1000bhp and I still wouldnt want it, or care if it beat me
They arent good better use maxsport competition Tyres
No big difference but maxsport rb5 - f3 tyre is half of r888 price
What car have you got em on bruv? Hp ect? Iv got fiat coupe 20v turbo running 380hp so need somd good semis.. cheers..c
