    Before, Gimr just released character specific tech and hoped it's get implemented (Snake Dthrow combos, Mew2 aerial side b combos, Banjo get up attack). A lot of his tech took months or YEARS to see use at the top level (Tech chase 50-50, Byleth Ledge trap, ICs infinite, etc)
    Now with slingshot, Gimr's putting out multiple videos explaining one tech. If this doesn't show how much Gimr believes in this tech IDK what will.

      @@callumanderson6373 6 frames babyyy!
      Like, you can buffer it, instead of having to frame perfect an irar for max airspeed. Which is what makes it so good for shield pressure escapes (on top of hurtbox shifting for characters like sheik or mewtwo), and since you can buffer it the variance created by sheildstun is easier to time after so its pretty cool.
      Also pedantically "slingshot" refers to just the stick inputs, not the jump, so also the grounded pivot grab isnt irar at all really and thats technically slingshot tech.
      Of course some characters dont benefit much but thats life. Its often bcuz they were already exceptional at those things, so they dont need it. Like metaknight can already just jump or dashback and get out of oos options so it doesnt help him there much, but again thats cuz hes already good at that in a way many characters arent/werent. A character like falco or dk who often ends combos with a back air really appreciates having 7 frames instead of 1, even if the result "turn around full speed back air" is identical from either irar or slingshot, and characters with the aforementioned hurtbox shifting like slingshot a lot.

    The more I use this, the more I realize certain characters were prone to using this.
    A lot of Shulk players have been using this to attack with back air.
    I've been using it with ZSS and Samus neutral B. In fact I think most decent Samus players used it for at least Neutral B.
    Gimr seeing this and giving it a name is what really changed everything. Because now the public is very conscious of what is being done. That's the first necessary step in developing a skill further.
    Additionally, figuring out it can take advantage of the buffer system was the true genius part in all this. I think people will eventually begin to argue that X was already doing this anyway, but Gimr is the one gave it life (by naming it) and discovered a very important technical aspect of the technique that makes it more than a reverse aerial.

    I'm sitting here in training mode mod, with inputs turned on so I know I'm doing it right, and I don't see any significant benefit of this vs just RAR. I've tried multiple characters, rolled them on the left edge of training stage, did both RAR and Slingshot and the distance I get is essentially the same.
    What am I missing? For the RAR I'm pressing fwd, within a few frames pressing back and jump on the same frame and letting it snap back to neutral asap. For the slingshot I'm pressing fwd, within a few frames pressing down back and jump within a couple frames of each other, letting the stick snap back to neutral. Same distance, every time. With a short hop.

    Maybe Gimr didn't mention it to avoid confusion but you can get a Slingshot by pushing your control stick anywhere from down back to very slightly back of down not just in the down back gate like the diagrams imply.

      @SadFace229 Před 2 lety

      I found that when I aim to flick back from the initial dash, if I aim closer to 6 o'clock (which feels like 7 o'clock to me assuming my initial dash is 9 o'clock) I'll get the back jump animation. When I aim to down back in the diagram (let's say 5 o'clock), I end up with the regular jump animation as I do the slingshot. I am going to assume that I actually end up overshooting the threshold in the latter when I aim for the down back in the diagram.
      Reading the comments, I guess I'm accidentally IRAR then? I suppose I'll keep practicing to get the slingshot perfectly just in case the animation changes the hurtbox to protect me then.

      If youre open to suggestions you could use the power a pro controller that is built like a gcc and imo its kinda better. (slightly better frame size, buttons arent mushy which many gcc are without mods, both bumpers, they plus minus screenshot and home buttons, can be used in other games, easy to implement cuz its just a wireless pro controller with a unique build, etc) It has admittedly mediocre durability though, ive bought 3 in the last 2 years and playing smash semi regularly one has already picked up an issue with the joystick after about a year. Though im not sure its a manufacturing/durability issue, since the issue is kinda weird and just suddenly showed up, i think maybe my brother knocked it off the table and didnt tell me or something lmao

      If it helps, you can technically just see the input as a downward quarter circle with the Pro Controller. Dash, then roll the stick down. Just make sure you actually do a bit more than a quarter circle as the stick has to reach past the 90/270 degrees angle.
