    I can definitely appreciate the lengths cloners go to in order to have a 100% clone correct firearm. I've got buddies who are like that and they're always digging through everything they can get their hands on from documents to pictures to get it correct. Me on the other hand I'm like that looks cool it's a sweet shooter so I'm gonna go with that... LOL Great video as always keepem coming guys!!!

      @@dionysis84 I don't even attempt to clone I just do what I like or want but honestly we as civilians can get better parts then what military guys use when it comes to guns because we can get exactly what we want instead of being limited to who won the military contract. Don't get me wrong their guns are badass but I can pick and choose from the best parts available so why not take advantage of that. Take care brother!!

      @@DanielBoone337 that’s the same approach I take. I could careless about my Block II build being “clone correct” when there are better parts that I can get nowadays, and probably much cheaper in most cases.

      @@iTz_FLAwL3zZ If you're building a clone rifle at this point, it's either for collection purposes or just for the aesthetic. Like you guys said, there's tons of parts that are on par or better than what's used in clone builds, and they usually can be found at a lower cost because they are not "clone correct".

      M4 : Original Model/variant in 3rd burst only, not widely used or recognized.
      M4A1 : Full-auto and most commonly used and known variant.
      Mk18 : M4A1 with shortened barrel, usually 10 inches.
      Block II/2 : M4A1 with RIS ( Rail Interface System ) handguard for attaching various attachments : scopes, grips, flashlights etc.
      HK416 : Basically a M4A1 but made by Heckler and Koch instead of Colt and also uses a short-stroke gas piston system like the HK G36, instead of a gas only one like in standard M4s.
      There are no block 3 or 4, Block 1 was a prototype/first attempt and was never officially categorized.

    During recce or satellite petrols, my team would push that peq a little further back. Thus having a little more weight distribution, and easier manipulation when in a prone/stagnant position for extended periods of time. There was other factors that went into play but I’m not one to rant. I personally believe we benefited from this the most during night operations. I built a SOPMOD Block II FSP. I've got a handful of clones now and the SOPMOD is to this day my most shot clone by far. Its done as correct as legally possible, as are all of my clones, and its proven to be a dream to shoot. Its reliability has astounded me. Its not a super hard clone to build either compared to some of the other clones. Parts are still pretty available, but not cheap. Its probably the rifle I recommend the most when people ask me what clone they should build first in their journey down the clone rabbit hole... that bleeds you dry and makes you go bankrupt. lol I've got some neat clones like my 28th EOD CQBR, but at the end of the day, none are more of a dream to shoot than the Block II SOPMOD... but guys... you really need a FSP in your lives... just saying... lol

    Was such a great rifle, and I kinda miss it lol now I have a Geissele upper on the Colt Lower so kinda a Block 3 type build with an LPVO and an offset DPP. Much as I loved the Colt upper, this Geissele is pretty beast and both were about 1 MOA capable spitting quality ammo.

      I read an article saying that now Army put RIS2 rail back on the URGI after conducting an almost unnecessarily too severe drop test. Mk16 hand guard touched the gas block and damaged it. They will either put an enhanced version, a lower profile gas block or stay with RIS 2. I guess they are good friends with DD or bribed by it.😂

    Funny how the block II is considered "old technology" these days. I would have lost my whole crayon box if someone from the future gave me one in 2003 to replace my M16A2. The rapid advancements in the past 21 years with the M-16/M4, and accessories is pretty mind blowing. Especially when you compare what been done in improvements from the 60's to early 90's.

    • @jamesmackinnon3741
      @jamesmackinnon3741 Před 2 lety +1

      Well honestly there was some pretty crazy advancements back then too, they just aren't often recognized. For instance when Eugene Stoner first designed the M16 he intended it to have a polymer lower and a pencil profile barrel, something that was pretty revolutionary at the time. In pictures of Eugene from when the M16A1 was first released (around 1960) the circular handguards from the M16A2 could already be seen hanging on the wall, an advancement that wouldn't be added until the early 1980s. It's also worth noting that it wasn't long after the M16 was recieved in Veitnam that experiments were being conducted to chop the barrel down to various lengths. By the early 90s flat top uppers were already being developed with pic rail systems following soon after.

    did they come with BAD levers though?

  • @TheAverageMountainMan
    @TheAverageMountainMan Před 2 lety +1

    Its really not that heavy even when all dressed out. Compared to a standard M4 Carbine sure it weighs more but honestly its not at all bad to shoot offhand or from an unsupported stance. I find the mass of the rail to be a major boon to performance because it doesn’t have as much vertical movement on recoil. Its has a smooth rearward recoil pattern. The only major complaint I hear is that as the gas port erodes and widens during the life cycle of the barrel gas tends to be expelled more in the shooters face when firing suppressed. Other than that its a venerable design that likely won’t become truly obsolete for another 40-50 years. The new “Block III” took most of its attritbutes from the Block II with the exception of the gas system length.

    Any fellow ak74 owners…I have a brand new barrel in mine and I’ve been having failure to ejects and sometimes the spent casing gets stuck in between the bolt carrier and receiver/dust cover. I polished the chamber at the advice of the local gunsmith. My extractor and ejector look fine no damage. You think the chamber just needs a break in and polish?

    • @TheDoorspook11c
      @TheDoorspook11c Před 2 lety

      Thats good advice , granted with all other items being in order. Gas block is aligned, proper sized, etc. Headspacing. Extractor engagement . Check wear patterns on bolt and trunions.

    • @frankholub4673
      @frankholub4673 Před 2 lety

      Might be a weak recoil spring if you're having stovepipes like that, a weak mainspring can cause the action to reciprocate too fast for it to eject reliably all the time. Try putting in an ALG enhanced power recoil spring.
      When it does cycle, what is the ejection pattern like? Strong or weak? If the recoil spring isn't it, gas system is the next place I'd look.

    Jake about those anti tilt followers, back in the day when the M16 and the M4 colt the magazines that was issued did not have an anti tit follower meaning that as you load your magazines sometimes the bullet will kinda dive into the magazine prevent the round from feeding cause the bullet will do like a nose dive into the mags and it was big issue, once that was resolved the magazines with the anti tilt follower the mags will not seat into the rifle properly and this was in Afghan when it happened, Soldiers will load a new mag into the rifle and as they punch the rifle out the mag will fall out of the rifle that’s where the tap your magazines came from, as of now I don’t know what caused that issue but since that FN not colt took the contract of the M4s that we know of today runs fine or just as good as a DDM4 and the Knights take that with a grain of salt. But that’s why we have the tap your mags and anti tilt followers

    I don't know if I'd call that a _100%,_ clone correct build. A number of things stand out to me; most notably that Magpul BAD lever. I've never seen a Magpul grip or trigger guard either. The only grips I've ever seen are A2 grips and Hogue grips. Nor have I ever seen a teardrop forward assist either. But, it's the SOPMOD program so who knows what guys were putting on those rifles. Pretty badass build! After I get done putting together my mk18 cqbr block II build I might put together one of these block II m4 builds together as well.
