I wish more money would be allocated towards creating more rehabilitation programs versus simply locking people up, especially addicts struggling daily with the "disease"of addiction! I know here in the US, they label addiction as a disease, yet it is not treated that way. I am an RN and I know any other disease, such as diabetes, would be treated with medication/counseling/education, etc. There are programs to help people get their meds and reatment for their diabetes, for example. Yet, addicts are still constantly discriminated against, and I see it first hand from doctors, nurses, medical staff in general. It is a systemic problem that needs to be addressed ASAP! I know I went into healthcare to HELP people, not to judge them or treat them differently depending on what kind of diagnosis or disease they have. I hope this changes. Until then, the numbers of new addicts, overdoses, crimes related to this disease will just continue rising...it really breaks my heart...

That's a good place to start because once you have that managed, everything falls into place eventually. You are so wonderful. You are destined for so much more. You deserve to be happy and to be loved and to live the life that you've always dreamed of. This addiction does not define you. It's your beautiful soul that does. Many have been raped as kids and the emotional pain is so deep that drugs and alchohol are the only things that numbs the pain. If people could stop an addiction on their own, then it wouldnt be an addiction. No before you go on about me making an excuse, its still their responsability to ask for help and accept professional help. But judging the victim of rape and sexual abuse and saying nothing about the abusers or how these people came to become addicts is incredibly short sighted.

My friends started doing drugs in high school. Thank god I didn't fall into that trap. Though all of those friends have left the addiction ans fine now but things could have gone wrong.

First of all, that “friend”, at the start, wasn’t much of a friend, he showed no compassion at all. I feel so sorry for these precious people, who’s just trying to survive…
