    Hello, this is Algae.
When I travel to Southeast Asia, there are fruits that I must taste.
It is mangosteen, an attractive tropical fruit.
The purple skin and pure white flesh seem impressive.
When you eat a mangosteen, you can find a seed located in the center of the flesh.
Today, I sprouted the remaining seeds after eating mangosteen.
I hope this video will give you pleasure.
    Have a nice day :)
    Thank you.

I once plant a mangosteen when i was 10 (at that time it only have two leaves). And the first time the fruit came out is when i was at the age of 37 😂 sure mangosteen takes a lot of time to become a big tree

Supposed to only take 7 years for first fruit (although I find when plants first fruit, it isn't always successful) so maybe you didn't provide enough nutrients? Or just poor conditions/wrong area.

yes..they are slow growing and takes a lot of fertilizing and full sunlight...
    grower must be patient.
growing from seeds takes around 5-8yrs with monthly fertilizing schedule.
after that phase.. you can graft the scion for the second batch to bear fruits faster within 3-4yrs.
mangosteen fertilizing schedule are as follows......................
compound fertilizer for fruiting start at the early rainy season.
in drought season, they needs watering a lot..
    diffrent from mango.

      Hello this is Algae.
Thank you for sharing your story :)
Does your story mean that mangosteen seeds were planted outdoors?
Whether you live in a temperate or tropical climate will likely determine the survival of your seeds.
If you live in a temperate climate, I recommend growing seedlings indoors during the winter.
I hope my reply is not late.

      Hello This is Algae.
      I strongly agree with you.
It takes a long time for mangosteen trees to mature and produce their first fruits.
Through the epigenetic approach, I hope that the first flowering of mangosteen will occur quickly and the technology to control it will be developed as soon as possible.

If there is no sun, how do you dessicate the seed?
Do you need to remove the fiber/filaments surrounding the seed before drying?

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  Před 19 dny +1

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for your question :)
      Never dessicate mangosteen seeds.
You should soak the seeds in water or plant them in soil immediately after collecting them.
The 'fibers/filaments surrounding' can be removed with nail clippers and tweezers.
It will not cause any major damage if the surface of the seed is scratched.

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for your warm interest :)
Three years ago, I went abroad for academic research.
I left small mangosteen seedlings at home in Korea, but my family was very bad at taking care of the seedlings.
So now, only one small seedling has survived.
My academic research will be finished in about three years (2026 or 2027).
When I return to Korea, I plan to grow new mangosteen seedlings.
At that time, I will prepare a time-lapse video, and I plan to set up a studio for filming videos of agricultural science, including a culture room and mangosteen.
      Have a nice day :)

@@jolus6678 after gathering all the seeds, I washed the seeds with just plain water. After which, I soak them in a jar full of clean water overnight. 24hrs after, I carefully peeled off all the outer skin of the seeds. Planted each seed after in pots. Lightly watered them then covered the whole pol with coconut husk, and put it away from the sun. 3wks after, saw tiny mangosteen plants. Each with 2 young leaves. :)

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  Před 9 měsíci

      Hello this is Algae.
      Sorry I can't accept your request :(
      Mangosteen seeds are very sensitive.
It is best to sow seeds immediately after they are collected from the fruit.
Moreover, whether it is in the fruit or collected from the fruit, the germination rate approaches 0% just by being exposed to low temperatures for a short period of time.
Additionally, in accordance with the nagoya protocol, I do not transport living organisms between countries.
And I do not have a license to sell seeds from the Korean government.
If you want to germinate mangosteen seeds, purchase mangosteen fruits that are sold at room temperature.
If exposed to low temperatures even briefly during the distribution process, the seeds inside the fruit will be greatly damaged.
Fresh seeds have a beige cross section, while those that have lost their value as seeds have a brown cross section.
      Have a good day :)

Unfortunately, mangosteens will not survive outdoors in Bulgaria.
