  • I wanted to get out early on this Saturday for two reasons. To capture the sunrise over the Nevada desert east of the construction site and to see if there would be construction activity on a Saturday.

We value your videos and the insights you learn from Tesla factory workers and builders. Don't worry about getting terms wrong. Your grateful audience will give you the right terms cement/concrete, column/beam as they do already. There will be many other terms to learn as the building progresses. Building may not get much larger, Footprint is big already. It appears they have prefabricated part, or all, of some the footing steelwork. We could see a day where many footings are concreted.

Thanks for the coverage, and for picking up on nomenclature. It sounds as though you see this plant as a multiplicity of final assembly lines. Consider that it must also make most of the parts. Stampings, Forgings, Motors, Windows, Plastics, Wiring, Batteries, Seats, Painting, Electronics, Etc. Not all of course but Tesla makes a lot of its own stuff.

YES! Way back in the late 70's I worked at Western Star building semi trucks. There were 2 main lines, east and west plus a cab paint line. East line assembled the frame, then everything else was added up to the chassis paint booth. Then it got tires and wheels, proceeded down the west line to get everything else, motor, transmission, drive shafts, cab, batteries... then final finish.
The assembly lines took up at most 1/3 the total floor space. Most was used to make sub-assemblies, rear axles, air tanks, air lines, battery cables, fifth wheel (east line). and lots of other storage space for parts and supplies. And they didn't build the cabs (was a sourced supplier), only painted them. Taking a page from Tesla's car lines, there will be groups of cells that do different things of the assembly and the truck will be moved on to the next cell group. That is much more efficient than old fashion straight in floor chain lines. So, likely will be at most 2 assembly lines one for standard, one for long haul with sleepers.

Correct - cement is the powder that goes into the mix . Portland cement is a popular one.
Concrete is the finished product mixed with gravel, sand, cement powder and any chemical additive to attain some desired characteristics.
There are many more mixes than that but two types are most common… and used generally everywhere with additional mixes for industrial uses..

You're going to be the Joe T. of Giga Nevada, get ready for your numbers to skyrocket! I do get a bit airsick when you do the 360s and pan down, I recommend slow panning shots like Joe does, stop and focus on the new & cool stuff, then slowly move along. This will give your audience the best possible views of the site. Thanks!

Totally agree. Also, some high altitude, zoomed out orientation shots at the beginning to show the general layout of the area to show the relation of the various buildings and such. Maybe not every video but once a week or so. You might even consider using one of Joe's ideas and put a sketch/map of the area in your intro. Think like a movie director and always make an establishing (zoomed out), shot before the close ups. Without knowing what we are watching it is just pretty pictures.

I would be surprised if those are all separate 'production lines'. I'd expect it to be conceptually similar to Giga Texas, with large sections of the factory dedicated to various parts production, stamping, casting, painting, and assembly. The final assembly line for Cybertrucks is a 3 dimensional path going up/down/left/right/forward where the parts are all then brought together and assembled. I would think this is the approach they'll take for the line here. My guess would be 2 or perhaps 3 distinct 'lines', just based on what I've seen at Austin.

The prototype semi currently produced is largely comprised of supplier parts. It is easier to list the components they produce than the ones they don’t. Plaid motors, battery packs, screens, bms, heat pump and HVAC. They don’t stamp any body parts. This could all change of course as they ramp up to volume production.

I know the semi will be the main product produced at this factory. But I also hope that the expand to selling chassis… freight-liner and other companies sell lots of chassis for box trucks, RV’s, buses, food trucks and more… I think with thier superior technology and production they could make lots of advancements in commercial world. Do you think Tesla will develop a cargo van, and if so do you think they would manufacture here?

The # of footings at some level of prep makes me think this will go up very fast once we get past all of this being poured. I would love to this region from the air before all this was built up.

    I love watching construction...especially buildings by 🌈🌎🐉Tesla...
But moreover...because big trucks are such a massive part of global daily human endeavour, along with the noise & diesel pollution...so knowing there will be less of that, in a matter of 2-3 solar years, is environmentally hopeful.

I am thinking of the loading bays etc that happen outside. There is not much space on the west. Much more on the south (or is it north? - I am in South Africa where the sun goes the other way). Also, the lanes look much wider in NS direction.
