This one is, for sure. This is basically shovelware garbage. Nothing but an attempt to steal some cash from a popular idea. The "dev", SRL offers nothing good to the gaming space.
But with proper care, permission, and communication, this sort of thing could easily be okay.
That's pretty common. People try to capitalize on stuff all the time. The app/play stores have that the most but others have it too. It's just natural for people to try and trick others by capitalizing on something I guess😅

Exit 9 is a perfect example of even if someone tries to copy or replicate the ‘formula’ of someone else’s work you can always tell it’s a cheap copy.

In retrospect, switching from 2-3 10 minute episodes per day to 1 30 minute video is one of the best changes the grumps have ever made.

Surely there's a lawsuit to be had over someone copying The Exit 8 this closely....
This was the same debate during the Palworld release. Basically, every lawyer I saw weigh in said you concepts don't constitute IP. So, yeah, as long as the assets were developed by them (or probably purchased, in this case) the developer of Exit 9 is legally free to create a game where you spot anomalies in order to escape a subway tunnel. Disclaimer, though, I'm not a lawyer, just repeating the information I've gathered.

Platform 8 is the official sequel to The Exit 8. Kotake Create also made the game Strange Shadow. I sincerely hope you guys play these other titles. They're really good.

A part of what made Exit 8 so good is that it managed to make a scary experience by hiding very subtle changes in a bright and clean environment, making the player lose their mind searching the room. "The Exit 9" here entirely misses the point, making it a "dark and spooky environment" like every stereotype creepypasta game, with details that are far easier to notice. Wow such doge. Even Fortnite did a better job trying to rip another game off.

I'm guessing that's why they also decided to keep in their negative impressions, they (mostly) tend to avoid that to keep the episodes more light-hearted, or at least couch their criticisms a little bit to not make prescriptive statements.
So I was kinda surprised that they were so blunt about it, basically going "No, this is just straight up bad, I am disappointed in you." about a game they thought was from the same developer that they do like.
Idk, I think showing how blatantly it's a rip off with no soul would make people less likely to get tricked into buying it. Not all press is good press.

The films featured in The Dish is Out: The Shining, The Thing, Dolls, Evil Dead 2, Horror Express, and The Blob.
The through line for all of them are horror films about evil entities terrorizing people. All except The Blob take place in locations where people are confined and can't escape without outside help. Hmm... subtle.

Imo, observation would be a good game to play. Set in space, control a computer, confusing puzzles, little direction outside of dialogue, and basically no tutorial. The perfect game for the video game boy himself
