Me too, because it could have haha. That trailer and the Trabant would have been under the max braked towing weight for a MK4 Golf TDI by a couple of hundred kilos.
Just wanted to comment that he didn't need a "more powerful" vehicle, since the trabant is basically a lawn mower engine, 13 coats and 4 garden cart wheels.
I do get it though, it's probably not an ideal vehicle since it has been lowered etc, and perhaps he didn't feel comfortable using it that way. Plus a modified MK4 Golf towing will get a lot more unwanted attention from German authorities than a modern and over-capable VW van.
Not strapping to the tires is bizarre. That's how tow dolleys work over here in the US, Seems like if that suspension compressed it'd cut the straps. Probably best not to argue with the police though.
Same fan as the engine, but if that fails, you are screwed... always keep an eye on the battery indicator, thats your only indication to know if the fanbelt is still on.😅

@@markellii3093 Not quite, they do weigh about 600kg. The trailer was probably 400 - 500kg. The towing weight for the Golf is 1300kg.

Dollies are not concidered safe in europe.
We always strap our race cars by the tyres, what an interesting police officer lol

At least Trabant blower motors can't fail, because they don't have one. Unless you count the engine which does blow some of the air into the cabin.

I've used tow dollies from u-haul a lot. They come with straps to specifically use over said tires. But apparently its dangerous in Germany? 🤷
