  • I really love these old Guyatone guitars, especially ones that have that "G" on the headstock. Awesome pickups, good wiring, easy playability, just nice! Check out the halfway mark as Mike plays some Santana!

    I had a Guyatone that looked similar to this in the late 60's that was blue with a steel pick guard. It was stolen out of my van. It was a great little guitar. Love your playing style.

    My dad bought me that guitar for Christmas 1966 on a trip to Japan for around $30. Mine was gloss white and had a tremelo bar. My first electric guitar! I was 14 years old. Great playing Mike!... if I knew it could sound that good I would have kept it.

    Ha, yeah that's a question I get a lot. Really there's nothing special about our set-up. Mostly vintage tube amps, 1960s Ampegs, Fenders, and Traynors. This particular demo we used a Reverend Kingsnake. The pedal chain is simple, a Fulltone OCD for dirt and a Big Muff for fuzz. We use all kinds of Big Muff pedals, vintage, Russian, and new reissue stuff. Everything is close mic-ed and straight into the computer through a Focusrite interface. Really simple set-up, sort of caveman!

    Very nice video and it made buy a guyatone guitar with steel pickguard. I replaced the bridge with a tuneomatic now intonation is spot on but doesn’t keep the tuning after bending. Do you have any suggestions? Shall I change the tuning pegs as well? Previous owner has changed them already with die cast chrome new style ones. But I don’t know which brand they are. Would you like to help to put my guyatone guitar in tune like yours 😅?

    The Teisco, no. But the Kingston back there will get worked on this summer and probably be for sale.

    Hi, thanks a lot for the awesome reviews and the great playing!
    How good is the intonation with the fixed bridge piece?

      Thanks for the kind words! Bridges on these Guyatones were usually good, but you almost always need to adjust something. Intonation isn't spot on, but usually close.

    would you consider selling the blue-green teisco spectrum 5 or the kingston hound-dog taylor??

    so that is basicly the Kent Vegas model too right. and basicly a polaris 2 but you can switch on both pick ups at once. from what i gather on the polaris 2 you could only switch one or the other.. is this true?

      You're probably right... I can't remember that, ha!

      joe alanouf It's true that on the two pickup Polaris you can only select one pickup or the other, they don't have an adjustable truss rod though.

    Great playing as always! I see one of these on ebay for 200 (150+50shipping), is that a fair price? I know i asked on another video about buying these guitars, I'm looking to buy a new back up guitar and i love the bright clean 60s tone of Guyatone/Kent guitars. I might buy this one, I was wondering if there are any other models you would recommend that are particularly special?

    • @drowninginguitars
      @drowninginguitars  Před 9 lety

      +R0b1zzle137 Yeah I'd say that's a fair price. All the models sound similar, although the four pickup Videocaster has some more varied tones.

    Please, please , please tell us which AMP and the effect pedals you're using .… COOL guitars
    I really dig the Videos .… but the curiosity of what rig you happen to be playing through is driving me insane, well, more insane....

    I have the same exact guitar in great condition.I always wondered what it was. I was told it was a department store guitar in the 60’s. If I knew how to attach a picture to this comment I would attach a picture of it. I found it in case in some ones garbage.
