- ‘How to do Christian Meditation’ is a short animation film that introduces meditation to people who have never meditated before, especially Christians who think that it is not part of the Christian traditions. The film has been produced by Paul Demeyer, an animation film director based in Los Angeles. He generously shares this film as a supporting resource for WCCM.
Many people, including many Christians, think that meditation is only found in Buddhism or Hinduism. Meditation belongs to the Christian tradition too as the prayer of the heart, where we let go of all thoughts and words. Jesus says 'Go to your inner room, close the door and be there in the presence of God".
The early Christian fathers and mothers have taught us to guard the heart from negativity and emotion by laying aside all thoughts. In Christian Meditation we enter into the inner room to enable the essential human journey. As we mediate day by day, we find deeper stillness, silence and simplicity that begins to transform our minds, our feelings and daily life all for the better. If you're serious about finding peace, be serious about learning how to meditate.
In his video, Paul takes us on a gentle journey to show us how simple and natural this process is. He explains, "That was the idea: how to do it, how many times you do it… and I also wanted to add about the resistances we have, so you are just aware of that. It is about introducing something that's not as difficult as it might sound or it's as difficult as it sounds whatever you're interpreted like ''.

@@egi6767 every religion ever says Jesus is just part of the way, or one of the ways. Only Christianity declares Jesus as Lord (and it's the only historically consistent and accurate worldview)
Thank you for this video! Many people do not know that Meditation belongs to the Christian tradition as well
Christianity is not a tradition. It's having individual RELATIONSHIP and intimacy between you and God.
@@wurraola i think what he meant is meditation exist way back in earlier christian's life. Which is praying and worship God. We don't have to sing or shout to worship God, sometimes in our silence, God is listening.
Hinduism older
West changes one word
From "Yog" to "yoga"
And it's their, the obsession of West saying everything belongs to them.
"Steeling is our nature, just look at our history"
Thank you so much Paul...it is so clear this comes from the depths of your being, of Being itself. One can feel the lineage of this rich tradition pushing at your back and creative imagination! The desert Mothers and Fathers, especially St. Evagrius Ponticus to St. John Climacus, and St Hildegard to St Theresa, then to today Fr. John and Fr. Thomas and so many more...all dancing in silence at this expression of beauty...
Thank-You, I didn't know meditation belonged to Christianity, from now on I should it with a full heart.
I "quit" meditation for a bit because i read about christian way to do it, and for someone to be aware of god in us, and not about the path. This video was really well made and am ready to start meditating again. My goal before was to improve mental health and be more aware, but now its about God too. Thank you for making this video.
I have a saying and many others say this too: “put god in everything you do, or else be wary of all if not.”
Please can you guide us to how to meditate. Pls

Thank you so much as this is not just a great video on Christian Meditation, but on meditation in general. For years, I have found much peace & wisdom in Zen Buddhism--esp Thich Nhat Hanh--and now have a way to relate mindfulness to my faith. God bless, 🙂
Love this. The animation is beautiful and light-hearted! Thanks! I will use it for our groups and new-comers! Thanks Paul!
Thank you very much - fantastic job!
"When you pray, go into your inner room, close the door ..." - it's Mt 6,6 ;)
Beautiful, what a lovely guide.
So beautiful, thank you for this: once truly committed to this, the results are magical.
Gracias por este video tan lindo y que de una manera excelente explica que es la meditación.

Thank you, so clear and beautiful way to explain it! 🙏🎄🇻🇪
Thank you so much!!!!
This is inspiring and reassuring. There are so many videos on meditation for Christians that either don't describe anything recognisable as meditation, or they simply dismiss it.
This is so cool how to meditate in animated scene, nice and incredible wonderful animation

Thanks for this video😍
Thank you once again for this wonderfully creative film. I have now shared it on Zoom with my meditation group and another church discussion group with very positive results. Watching the film itself leaves one feeling calm and encouraged. Some of us have also viewed your interview, "The Animated Meditator" and found it very interesting and enlightening.
Wow thats wonderful glad it worked out!
Thanks for the video. I have shied away from meditation because I didn't want to honor false gods. I know can start without worrying, or offending Father GOD.
What a BEAUTIFUL INVITATION to be with The Lord
Thank you for this video. You explained perfectly

Literally while I'm meditating, neck does want to stand up straight.
Thank God someone who knows what hes talking about. YES>
Funny how all of the comments giving the reasons why Christians should not meditate are way down at the bottom. If you want to get close to Jesus go into that room every day and pray or read your Bible. The "War Room" movie had it right.

Very, Very, Very Nice Animation. Thank You!
If Meditation has a place in the early history of Christianity, it is big if true. If I may ask, who are these early Christian fathers and mothers that "taught us to guard the heart from negativity and emotion by laying aside all thought."
What you have described here seems at least superficially similar to mindfulness meditation in Buddhism in that it is about clearing one's mind. I've noticed quite few Christians are apposed to the clearing of one's mind...
A brother said to Sisois, ‘I want to guard my heart.’ He said to him, ‘How can we guard the heart if our tongue leaves the door of the fortress open?’
We clear the mind with the Mantra so the heart can be filled... filled with Sacred Silence; the language of the heart is Silence. Some Christians think this is a bad thing based on misunderstandings and fear.
@@darrelltaylor3460 What is the misunderstanding?
The word "Yoga" came from Sanskrit word "Yog". West's always a piece of shit bc they added one word and now it's their. India dominated china by it's tradition and religion and it's Buddhism, Rishi munis were used to Yog but in that period when Bodhidharma born, India was lacking in Yog, so he filled that and spreaded Buddhism in China.
Matthew 6:22 -
"Move Along! Nothing to See Here!"
I always knew, but how? where else?
🌷🙏🏻🌷✨✨✨
What should I be thinking about while doing it? Should I just think about the mantra or about nothing?
That's a nice thought but I cant say I agree with this.
In particular the mantras, "clearing your mind"
The bible says to ruminate on God's word, not to think of nothing, when meditating.
I cannot find evidence of the contrary.

Hello, i am trying to download the app from the website for android version, playstore says it didnt find anything.
Matthew 6:6*
The bible says you need to stay sober minded
Yes meditation is in the Christian tradition and scriptures but it is distinctly different than meditation of the East.
It is basically endeavoring to sit quietly in the presence of God, meanwhile inviting the Lord, who ia already within.
I'm not sure how different it is. Who can really tell? I will leave that in God's hands. What happens in the silence of someone's heart is between them and the Creator. Not really my business. But, perhaps, the best way to discern was mentioned in this video... the "fruits of the Spirit."
@@darrelltaylor3460 I feel you bro... all I'm saying is that the meditation described in Scripture is distinctly different from the meditation of the eastern religions because the meditation described in Scripture is directly focused on the word of YHWH. That is something that everyone can tell... but when it comes to what is happening within an individuals heart.. I agree "who can tell"
How should a Christian meditate?
What did you use to animate
I worked mostly in Photoshop, but also in Storyboard Pro. Animating the old 2D way.
The only quiet place in my house is the bathroom. But I think it’s disrespectful to be meditating on a toilet.
Can anybody out there recommend a good Bible meditation podcast, app or CZcams channel? Looking for a simple, calming program - 10 or so minutes, only Scripture - no theology, sermons or stories, with a quiet music or natural sound background, and quality recording/mixing. Seems amazing to me that something like this doesn’t exist, but I’ve searched and can’t find anything.
I recommend this channel called Abide. The videos can be long but they have scripture reading on there with calming music playing in the background
Encounter, Daily Still, First 15, and Abide all available on podcast platforms
Thank you for these meditative suggestions! ❤
Get enough sleep at night I WISH!
Why that bell chime sound? What does that mean? Why do eastern religions use it? Does it do something to the brain? Sorry for the silly questions.
I was thinking that too, because I’m not sure if this is right...
What’s wrong with the sound? Are orthodox or Protestant
@@s.f7778 I did not say anything is wrong with the sound. I am simply asking what is the purpose of that sound. I am not familiar with these practices. Hoping someone would educate me.
@@Faith_and_Hope_07 oh, well it’s just church bells
@@Faith_and_Hope_07 It is just a gentle way to begin and end the practice.. You do not have to use the bell sound.
BEWARE!! this is NOT biblical meditation! Eastern religions are the once that practice this type of meditation which will open us up to external spirits and as christians we are not ordered to 'empty our minds' or 'not think' tho God say to meditate he has clearly told us in the bible to meditate on his word! That means we read scripture and ruminate it in our mind and not empty our mind but fill it with scripture. Emptying our mind opens us to spirits because we are in a very vaulnreable state thats how hypnosis works!!.....and it clearly says on the bible when we pray to NOT to repeat words to be heard by God which means no meaningless words! So no mantras if you really want to meditate meditate in gods words sit down and ease your mind and think and reapeat scripture!
DO YOUR research!! Beforr you practice this!
Never heard of early christian mothers -> it is the Early Fathers. Masculine!
The Desert Mothers were known as ammas ("spiritual mothers"), comparable to the Desert Fathers (abbas), due to the respect they earned as spiritual teachers and directors. One of the most well known Desert Mothers was Amma Syncletica of Alexandria, who had twenty-seven sayings attributed to her in the Apophthegmata Patrum, or Sayings of the Desert Fathers. Two other ammas, Theodora of Alexandria and Amma Sarah of the Desert, also had sayings in that book.

Who almost fell asleep while mediating
If I’n tired I’ll be likely to fall asleep too, but will wake up truly refreshed.
This is just regular meditation. 🤷♀️
No shit sherlock its almost like meditation is meditation no matter where you go just different seating positions, mantras, and purposes for meditation.
If you are Christian do not do this method , this method is derived from eastern occultism
How is this kind of meditation biblical?
Matthew 6:7 (KJV translation), the exact verse which is used in this video, says to don't use vain repetitions. Isn't a mantra a vain repetition?
Also Matthew writes about praying to God. In this video the advice is to not speak to God, but to be with God. I know the video is not speaking about prayer, but is'nt this the opposite of what the bible teaches?
Also our true self is not whole and peaceful, our true self is sinful. Our hearts are "deceitful above all things and desperately wicked". (Jeremiah 17:9).
To B van V: Dear brother, I believe you're reading into the scripture. The mantra (call it a prayer word) is not a "vain" repetition. Christ was critiquing certain pagan practices of the day. Christians who meditate are not "pagans." In Christian meditation the heart is directed to God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). We sit in Silence in the Presence of the Risen Jesus resting in Him. What is the test? As the video says... the "fruits of the Spirit" (Letter to the Galatians 5:22ff). Are these fruits manifest in one who meditates? I hope so! BTW... the heart mentioned in Jeremiah is not the "True Self" made in the Image of God. It is the "false self" that is "desperately wicked." Or, what Paul called the "old man" as opposed to the "new man" who rests in Christ.
I don’t agree with this method. I don’t think meditation in a Biblical sense is for us to clear our minds. And you showed Matthew 6:7. I think this applies to mantras. And then you instruct us to say a mantra.
The literal meaning of the word meditate in the Bible is something to the effect of “chew the cud” like a cow does with his food. He’ll swallow it, bring it back up, and chew it some more. I think this is what we’re supposed to do with scripture. Think about it, then think about it some more until you gain more of an understanding.
Meditation in the sense that you’re saying is a pagan mysticism practice and we should avoid that.
This is wrong...I know it sounds right but it's wrong.
Yes meditation is also in Christianity, but not this kind of meditation.
In Joshua 1:8, you understand that biblical and christian meditation is majorly muttering words of scripture.
So please correct video, it's misleading.
Did you watch the video all the way through? Maranatha is an early Christian Prayer probably taught by Jesus as it is in Aramaic only the first Christians and Jesus spoke. It is in Scripture and means "Come Lord" It is in the NT and also in Greek in the NT. Look it up if you wish with a concordance. One can also simply use the name of Jesus as a "mantra" (which simply means a sacred word!)
Yes I did...
Christians are not supposed to meditate on a prayer but on the word of God, the bible.
Did you read Joshua 1:8
Thank you. This didn't feel right to me. Especially saying a mantra. The Bible specifically warns against chanting. The devil is very deceptive. Yes meditate on the Word.
You are welcome@@spencejoy. I pray well meaning christians don't fall for this. By the blood of Jesus, Amen.
If you don’t wish to use Maranatha, use this verse:
O God, come to my aid.
O Lord, make haste to help me.
How do you believe in God and meditate, there is a reason why God heals you!?
We humans are very stupid, we don't know our Creator and when He comes to save us, we crucify Him. Christianity is simply God revealing Himself to man, other religions are fiction.
Hey, well, I'm not sure if it's safe for Christians! Prayer is a prayer. A silent prayer is a silent prayer, but this reinds me of a meditation! Medidation is dangerous.
Thank you Playka. I’ve heard this said before, that by emptying the mind we let the devil in. When you are still , but present, there’s no way the demon can enter. The presence is the protection. The devil comes in through thoughts. Let’s say you think about what someone said, what you should’ve said and how wrong they were and before you know it you’re all worked up and upset, full of negativity towards that person and therefore against yourself. Desires start by thought and are fed by thought. When you stop feeding that thought process no negativity can enter. Our thinking is human thinking and does not allow the divine to be within, all we need to become is pure being. Prayer, good deeds, reading and meditation on scripture and contemplation all lead to that state of pure being. No danger there unless there’s spiritual pride, but for that we don’t need meditation...
@@pauldemeyer1290 God needsa silent time for Him for sure , but it doesn't go though meditation and mantras
@@playka1619 may I ask, how do you become still?
@@pauldemeyer1290 Can you paraphraze the question? I'm not so great in English.
@@playka1619 yes, if it is true that we need the silence to have a sense of God being here and now, the question is how do we become silent or find inner stillness? You might notice that when you sit under the tree, or in your home, and just try to be still within a second thoughts will occur and you’ve left being still or being in the present moment. In other words, we humans don’t know stillness. Here is a practice you might find agreeable, using words from the Psalm 46: “be still and know that I am God,” repeat the same sentence over and over again but each time you repeat it, you drop the last word, so at the eighth repetition you only say Be”, then be silent for a while, and see what happens. When thoughts occur, go back to being still. See what happens.
That not how Christian are suppose to meditate
This is is by no means a christian or biblical meditation!
It is eastern meditation with a christian mantra only and should be avoided by every believer in Jesus!
Why?

this is not christian meditation
I have been a Christian since 1972 when I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. Since practicing Christian meditation using a prayer word (mantra, if you will) I have found my love for Scripture deepened and my need to praise and thank God more intense. I have also been more motivated to serve God in any way I can. As Jesus said, "wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Come and see!
Lol Christianity has nothing to do with meditation u culturally apropoater
