    0:00 'Meditation' is mental 'concentration'. Mental 'focus'. One meditates/concentrates/focuses on an OBJECT of meditation/concentration/focus, unless one is engaged in 'meditation without seed'.

    Please Fr Laurence, what are the advantages of spending time in meditation?

    Just a question: does a mantra like ma-ra-na-tha have anything to do with the "vain repetitions" that Jesus criticized as the way pagan/gentile people prayed?

    • @jaceydurland9098
      @jaceydurland9098 Před 4 lety +3

      The mantra is just a place holder to keep your mind from wandering. What Jesus spoke of is different-it has to do with people not understanding that God does hear you and consider your prayer the first time you pray it. Asking over and over again doesn't change God's mind. Vain means pointless: going nowhere.

      Yes absolutely! This is the vain repetition of paganism. This guy is teaching pagan pantheistic doctrine and practices under the guise of Christianity. It's deception.

      @@jonathanlr4167 and of course you know what Jesus meant. You have to be more careful dismissing something you do not know of, and did not experience for your self. What Christians define as 'the devil' is the force of ill-will, hate, bondage, etc ... which is the opposite of prayer and true meditation. SO if some Christians are saying 'meditation is from the devil' I respond that they are speaking nonsense, as the very vast amount of meditators meditate to find inner peace, the divine, God - and they find it. Mere prayer is exactly in vain. Most pagans prayed just like most Christians do: in vain, only by word and not by experience. If a Christian does not go beyond the thoughts of his/her mind when he prays he remains bonded by egoism. Thoughts are not able to perceive the truth, and speaking of the devil, he is exactly within thought. Overthinking is simply repeating the conditioning of the material world. To overcome 'the devil' one needs to connect with the heart, where the Lord resides. Then the kludges if the material world diminish and we will be set free, in Christ.

    Meditation started in India.

      false! Indians like to believe this, and of course silly rightwing Christians as it serves them well. Meditation is as old as humanity and is rooted in shamanism, which existed everywhere in the world before civilisation emerged. Shamans are the first humans hunkering for the divine, and all religions sprang forth from shamanism. What Christians define as 'the devil' is the force of ill-will, hate, bondage, etc ... which is the opposite of prayer and true meditation. SO if some Christians are saying 'meditation is from the devil' I respond that they are speaking nonsense, as the very vast amount of meditators meditate to find inner peace, the divine, God. The ideal speed for relaxation is 9 breaths per minute :). 40 breaths is enough. All the rest is just a piece of real bullshit art.
