- The Stooges, while running the Cafe Casbah Bah (a Middle Eastern restaurant) and attempting to prepare a meal for customers Hassan Ben Sober (Vernon Dent) and Ginna Rumma (George J. Lewis), discover a plan that their hungry customers are hatching. These two thieves are attempting to rob the tomb of King Rootintootin, which contains a priceless diamond, but they discover that the emir of Schmow (Johnny Kascier) has already gotten his hands on the diamond. Two small scenes crack me up: when Larry sees the unbroken plate and breaks it and when the hot dog licks Shemp's face. These guys are forever comic royalty.
This was always my favorite episode but didn't notice Larry's plate until after several watches. My favorite moment now that I know.

Shemp was an outstanding comic actor.. it's not to his detriment that he had to fill the unfillable shoes of his brother Curley..or that the budget and writing had been in decline when he stepped in..he often shines in these shorts, and we should all be thankful. The Stooges would have been lost without him.
That whole scene with the cat and the dog is my favorite! 🤣
The way Larry just comes out and eats the food like a hungry man after a busy day at work!! Never gets old!! 🤣

The hotdog licking Shemp’s face is hilarious
Probably the best Shemp episode ever. The dog cat scene was the best !

The dog and cat gag gets me every time. LMAO! 😂
Even though it's old and watched many times, it's still better that what's on TV today.
It's classic comedy, and still so funny. No swearing or naked women. BTW, George Lewis played Don Alejandro De LaVega, Zorro's father on the original show.
I agree
@@Pashasmom1 That is interesting trivia. Thank you. Another TV person who once guested with the Stooges was John Hamilton, who was Perry White in the "Superman" TV series. And, yes, for all his dignity, he ended up with pie (or cake) all over his face.
@@basilmarasco1975, didn't the Three stooges invent the pie in the face gags? Or didn't Chaplin do those too before the stooges?
@@alvexok5523 I never saw much of Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Marx Bros, etc., so for all I know the Stooges were the first pie-fighters. If not, they still had to be the best.
4:17 This whole sequence, everyone thinking Larry killed, cooked, and served the cat and dog--and joked about it!--makes this my favorite Stooge film!
That skit was based out of real life. My grandfather told me one night when we went out for dinner that hot dogs are made out of dogs, therefore they are called weiner, grilled chicken is basically a skinned cat with it's legs wide open and rabbit was basically cat for people who couldn't afford to eat properly during the great depression and during both World Wars.
Oh yeah, and just the reactions before Larry comes back with the hot dogs and rabbit like the freakout over the ketchup. Just the "Catsup... CAT!!!" reaction got me. XD
that hotdog lick

Love Vernon Dent, who was a supporting player in many of the Stooge shorts for years.
Dent appeared in nearly half of the Stooges shorts (90 out of 190). Tragically, Dent ended up going blind, although he continued to appear in Stooges shorts. His blindness was a closely guarded secret. Even fellow co-star Emil Sitka didn't know about it until Shemp's death, where Dent had to be guided to the casket.
@@joshuariddensdale2126 I've heard that. Sitka said it was heartbreaking.
@@kevincorcoran6493 I forgot where I heard it, but when Shemp died, Mr. Dent said he absolutely had to go pay his respects to Shemp, even if he needed help to do so. It seems that Mr. Dent was a devoted friend, in addition to a great supporting player.
Another great supporting player was Bud Jamison, the tall stocky gentleman who was the defense attorney in "Disorder In The Court".
@@basilmarasco1975 Yes, Vernon additionally appears in some of Shemp's solo Columbia shorts, prior to his return to the Stooges, which I assume is when he first met him. Vernon was in far more Stooge shorts with Curly as opposed to Shemp.

Malice in the Palace is my favorite Three Stooges short of all time. The first 11 minutes are brilliant. The great debate has always been were they better with Curly of Shemp? Curly was lovable, but Shemp's one liners always have me laughing hysterically.

Somehow "Three Stooges" only became better as I got older. Just like fine wine: gets better with age!
That's what I love about old films from the 1950s and earlier, the older I'm getting the more I love and appreciate old films. I didn't care for old black and white movies when I was in my teens and 20s. 2:05 "I would leave it on. People don't know if you're comin' or goin with this on" 🤣🤣
Another one of my favorite "Shemp" episodes.😀👍
This is one of their funniest for sure, but I need to tell you all a tale of my 2 sons, ages 5 and 7. The Stooges gave me and my brother, and all of our buddies,
tons of laughs. Saturday morning from 7:00am until 11:00 am and then it was to the schoolyard or park to play ice hockey, ball hockey, football or baseball,
depending on the season. So naturally I introduced my boys to the zany trio, and this while VHS recording devices were a couple of years out on the market.
There was an episode where Curly was in a rocking chair and smoking a cigar. On the floor behind him was a cat with it's tail wagging back and forth
underneath one of the rockers. Neither Curly or the cat could see what was going on, as the cat was looking elsewhere. Finally, after 7 or 8 rocking motions,
the cat's tail got caught under the rocker and it let out the ghastliest of painful shrieks. Curly was so stunned that he gulped and swallowed his stogie.
My boys cracked up and howled with laughter like I'd never seen or heard them do before. I replayed the scene 10 or 15 times and each time the same hilarious
response. They're both in their 30's now and we discuss it from time to time.
Thats the way to bring 'em up. I hope you introduced them to Stan and Ollie too. In the uk, the BBC TV showed Stan & Ollie for decades, during the weekends, aimed specifically at children. But. like most all of their best stuff, they no longer treat the latest Generation of youngster's, the best (in my opinion ) comedy of all time. They and the Stooges, are probably considered TOO VIOLENT today.
Its like getting into a golden era of comedy by seeing again three stooges
4:08 Here’s a fun fact: Did you know that between these 2 scenes, there was going to be a cameo - a SECOND cameo of Curly Howard playing the role of an angry chef. That cameo was to be about 10 seconds. The line goes like this: Curly, who lost a lot of weight and is wearing a fake mustache takes of his chef hat (toque), and puts on a barrette. Moe, Larry and Shemp enters the scene. Larry says “One rabbit and one hot dog!” Curly angrily shouts “Fix it yourself! I’m going to lunch!” Larry asks “Lunch?!” And Curly says “Certainly! You don’t think I’d be eating in this dump!” Curly exits the scene and it’s the last time we would’ve seen him in any of the stooge shorts. They were working on that project and there is even one surviving artifact of what they were working on, but due to Curly’s health which was continuously deteriorating, and other concerns, the final clip was deleted from the short. But at least we have that photograph of the scene!
CLASSIC !! Stooges never get old. If someone doesn't love this, there is definitely something wrong with them.
WELL THERES THE DOOR MAN. LOL 😆
I didn't know until today that Curly was supposed to have a cameo in this film. He was set to play the role of the cook, which was covered by Larry in the finished film. The footage appears lost, but a still showing Curly in character as the cook with Shemp, Larry and Moe is on Wikipedia.
NewhamMatt Yeah,I suppose Curly wasn’t feeling to well on set,so they just called it a day and replaced him with Larry.Curly did have a stroke a few years before this theatrical short subject.I hope that scene is still around in a Paramount film vault.
Mr. Vintage
I also hope one day we can see Curly’s deleted scenes. It would mark this short as Jerome ‘Curly’ Howard’s last film performance.
May all who contributed to the Three Stooges films…
Rest In Peace, their actions will be remembered forever.
@@terrorsaur599 I sadly doubt it. Outtakes and deleted scenes were rarely kept in this era. Videotape was expensive, so was wiped and reused, and film took up space, so it was often discarded. TV shows did it all the time (there are entire episodes of Doctor Who, The Avengers, Dad's Army, Z Cars, The Tonight Show, even the BBC broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing missing from the archives), and even the footage from the original cut of The Blues Brothers was thrown out after John Landis was made to cut it down for its theatrical release in the 1980s. Still, miracles happen on occasion - some episodes of the aforementioned shows have been recovered - so you never know.
@@NewhamMatt They did have to keep this film to reuse in its remake in 1956.
Not too long ago I learned that Curly was actually supposed to appear in this episode as a chef in the kitchen and a promo/test pic of him in costume alongside the other stooges does exist.
