    This is my favorite meter for years. One thing to remember if you have it forgotten --> Put one probe in one of the two clamps on the back to keep the meter in the hand during the measurement. Often an unhandy solution, but sometimes very helpful if you find no other place for the meter. See it as one more alternative to the magnetic holder or the stand. When you remove the magnetic holder it is useful not trying to pull while you push the black plastic down because otherwise the yellow rubber still blocks the release. Sounds like a logical thing and happens maybe only dumb apes like me again and again ;-)

    ‘If you read the manual, who does that?’ 🤣 Got me! 😉 Great video, did not know these features.

    Good explain.

    The beeper is used for more than just continuity checking, such as a short beep when pressing a button (at least on the 87V and 115 I have). Some people don't want that beeping for those other activities.

  • @trainliker100
    @trainliker100 Před 2 lety +6

    A couple more tips: When you turn the meter off, any special choice you made is cancelled. You have to reselect it again when you turn the meter back on. Also, not all of the choices are mutually exclusive - you can hold down more than one "secret feature" button upon power up and you will enable all the features for all of that you have pressed.

      really? so you can do "Poff" and "Loff" at the same time, not just only one?

    • @trainliker100
      @trainliker100 Před 2 lety +3

      @@aicisha I can't guarantee it is true on all models that have both PoFF and LoFF. But I just tested my Fluke 115 and if you hold down both the yellow and the light bulb buttons on powerup, both features are enabled although the manual doesn't mention it. The Fluke 106/107 has a note confirming both features simultaneously saying, "Note: To disable both the Auto Power Off function and the Auto Backlight Off function, hold down the YELLOW button and the [lightbulb symbol] button until both PoFF and LoFF show on the display." The way that is written it suggests you could do it after the unit was already on, but on the 115 it didn't work like that and I had to hold both buttons down while turning it on and it only showed PoFF on the display although the backlight turning off was also disabled. My Fluke 87V doesn't seen to have a feature regarding the backlight as it stays on indefinitely unless I turn it off. So you may have to check how your particular model works.

    You missed one secret about the 179 that Dave Jones if EEVBlog went over previously. If you take the standard probes and short them while in the temperature setting, the meter will display the internal temperature delta of the meter. This isn't specific to Fluke DMMs. It works on most.

    Thank you so much! Thumbs up 👍 My fluke 179 owners manual was sparse and did not show this at all. It basically had drawn pictures in squares with no wording. Lol Thanks again. This really helps.

    These options only work if your firmware is 2.04.X and above. Below that, the only options you have are are the LCD segmant display and firmware display. Also, silencing the beep is helpful when using 'Autohold' and you don't require the sound, not just silencing continuity.

    The "smoothing" feature is much more than updating the screen less frequently. It is also filtering the data. From the Fluke 175/177/179 manual: " ... Dampens display fluctuations of rapidly changing inputs by digital filtering."

    • @fridayswithbrandon
      @fridayswithbrandon  Před 2 lety +1

      Digitally filtering could technically be done just by slowing the refresh of the screen. That might not be how it is done, but that is how it is done according to what Fluke's tech support told me.

    Do you know of a way to increase the screen contrast? my 177 seems like it could be easier to read.

    • @fridayswithbrandon
      @fridayswithbrandon  Před 4 měsíci

      No. I know you could send it to Fluke for servicing and could have them replace the screen. Youight also be able to buy and replace the screen yourself. Other than that I know as screens get older sometimes the contrast fades a bit.

    Great video. Nice to know how to silence the BEEP, but in my case, I lost the BEEP. I do not know how this happened.
    Can any one help me? Is the beeper defective, or is it because it does not get the correct signal to get it to beep. How can I test the beeper. Just give it a DC voltage, if so, what voltage. Is ir polarity sensitive ?

    Why does Fluke 179 multimeter have 2 types of screens?
    Why do some have green light and some have white light?
