- Hey Luv,
In today’s video I’m sharing with you the 10+ things I don’t do or use on my Relaxed Hair and the reasons why. I figured this would be an interesting way for you to understand my regimen and healthy hair journey a little better. Plus, it’s always intriguing to see what people don’t do in their healthy hair regimen vs. what they do! Trust me, there were more things that I wanted to include, but this is a great start :)
Be sure to share what things/items you don’t do in your hair routine in the comments below. I’m curious to know. If you decide to share here on CZcams, be sure to tag me so I can see it, too!

As always, wonderful tips that we can incorporate in our own hair journeys. By far, you are the best! Thank you so much for sharing!
I’m super grateful! Thank you for your feedback, Tanya. I’m glad that my content has been valuable to your hair journey💕
@@HairliciousInc is using gel normal on relaxed hair??
In my 60’s and have been both natural and relaxed for decades as I do whatever works best at that time in my life. Today I’m relaxed. Never worn wigs, weaves, braids etc in my life. I wear my wear out daily except for the occasional bun. It works for me! At this age I have to enjoy it now. I save nothing for later or a special occasion. Every day is a special occasion because I woke up. 👍🏾. Great tips!
Great comment💙
💯
I’m also in my 60’s, and I totally agree.
I agree in my 50s
I'm 28 and I'm now learning this! Thank you for this comment Miss!
I DO most of the things you DON’T do. My hair is thriving. It’s interesting how different things works for different people. 😊
I’m not even relaxed, but these tips were 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Yay!! Thanks so muchhh💕
Same!
Thanks so much for sharing with us Val, I have been relaxed for years. There are so many videos for natural hair but very few for relaxed hair that we can relate to. Please don't think I'm bashing natural ladies ya'll. I was natural for the first 13 years of my life, relaxers just work better for me.
Thank you Judy for sharing that. Of course, everyone is entitled to their preference. The relaxed community is growing but the videos need to grow as well💕
Literally some of these tips are exactly the same for my natural 4c hair. Lol!
My hair is extremely thick with a relaxer no way I will go natural. It's just too much hair. Plus it's long.
Nice comment. Everyone has to do what works for them be blessed. I love natural and relaxed. As long as it's healthy 🤗💞
Happy Sunday, sis!! Thanks for tuning into another video💕
Hot oil treatments are awesome for my hair. I deep condition straight after washing. My hair does extremely well/thrives with heat only once a month. Thanks Val!
Happy Sunday dear
Happy Thursday! Watching while working from home. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you so much for sharing your advice and experiences! I just relaxed my hair after being natural for 8 years. I enjoyed my natural hair journey, but with everything going on in the world I found I just didn't have the mental or physical energy to keep up the lengthy routine I had in place. I'm super grateful that being natural taught me to care for my hair , so now I'm in a better position to learn how to care for relaxed hair- something I never learned before while growing up. Looking forward to this new journey & super grateful to have found your channel.♡
Happy to have you here, sis💕 wishing you an awesome relaxed hair journey.
Yup being natural taught me do much about hair in general so that if I ever go back relaxed or coloured I know what to do now!
I've worked in an high end salon for 4 years, and we've always shampooed, deep condition, then run the conditioner through he hair briefly after the deep conditioner is rinsed out. so YES, go straight for the "Good Stuff"!
That makes more sense to me! Thanks Nica for your feedback & for watching💕
Good to know 👏🏽
I long for the day I will find a professional stylist who really understand the science of black hair. The health hair journey is very challenging when u can't do most of the things by urself. Thanks for the tips Sunshine
Totally understand where you are coming from. You and your stylist have to be aligned especially if you still l rely on their services. Don’t give up, sis!💕
Yah knows your hair since He created you. Call on Him … I did & my hair is longer & healthier than it’s ever been.
vee z89 OMG say that louder for those in the back!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾💯
@@bumblebee4024 that's a good approach will definitely do that
Thank you for sharing and teaching us how to have healthy hair. I went back to relaxed hair after 11 years of being natural. You inspired me and I'm looking forward to my new healthy relaxed hair journey. My hair thrived natural and relaxed. I'm 50+ and you have taught me a lot. I never knew I could air dry my relaxed hair, it has been a game changer for me. Ladies, Natural hair and relaxed hair can both be healthy as long as we treat our Crowns good. We are all Queens. God Bless you!
I just love how you go through all of your videos so detailed but to the point!
Val you are so awesome and informative. Your tips are truly helpful. Thank you for helping me in my hair journey!!
That 2 for 1 deep conditioning and oil treatment is genius
I’m natural with no plans of relaxing and I am thoroughly enjoying this video.
Aww!! Appreciate the luv, sis. Thanks for watching💕
Thanks for sharing Sunshine 🌞, I always look forward to your videos. I love love the way way you present them, they are fun to watch and at the same time very informative, so I find myself watching them over and over again. You always look awemazing.
Aww you are so sweet💕 I appreciate your kind words and love!! Thank you.
💜💜💜Love your videos, super informative. You have helped me in my hair journey tremendously. I quit my stylist last year because he wasn’t giving my hair the love and care that it needs, after finding your channel I’m sooooo glad I did.
Thanks luv!! Super happy that you’ve taken charge over your hair. You got this! 💕
So I used a Lye relaxer for the first time today, I love it. I have fine hair but my middle gets real thick when my new growth comes in. When I was natural back in 2019 to 2020, my hair grew but not pass my shoulders. Once I started relaxing every 3 months or longer in 2020, my hair is now almost arm pit length. I deep condition like crazy and wash my hair weekly. I use a hair bond, not Olaplex, I can't think of the name right now, I went blank, lol, but Ulta sells it, that helped my hair with the growth as well. I drink plenty of Core water as well. I love your tips.
What deep conditioned do you use
It’s calming to watch and listen to you😌
I enjoyed your making of the “not for this sis” look at certain points of the video😄
I do:
long term protective styles, wash my hair in the sink, no-lye relaxers, self trim
Thanks girl! 💕💕
Val, I'm right there with you regarding not doing braids, etc for protective styles. Wigs have always & will always be my go to
Love wigs💕 Easy access to take care of your hair underneath - huge!!
I wish I came across your channel when I relaxed my natural hair 2 yrs ago. I’m mourning over the amount of hair I’ve lost (from shoulder length to neck length). You’re videos are a guidance on how to get my length back with severely damaged hair. Please keep sharing you’re saving a lot of us ❤
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this content Val! Your delivery is so clear and concise. I typically do straight back cornrows or braids for vacations and it works great. And I agree, the less you have hands (or a comb) in your hair the more it will thrive. My "go to" protective style is two flat twist. It's best thing ever!!
Thanks a ton, sis!! For vacation, I think that’s practical🙌🏾💕
I do straight back flat twists. Cornrows break my hair. It's ultra fine.
@@marleyhill34 Ahhhh, I've never tried flat back twists. I'll certainly give it a try. Thank you!
Thanks Val, you've been an inspiration to my hair journey. I've learnt alot from you, and my hair is thriving and I share these ideas with friends and family. ❤
Thank you so much for your hair regimen tips. Even though I am considered natural, I still find your do’s and don’ts helpful on my journey to healthier, thicker, and longer hair. I definitely am subscribing to your Chanel.
I love her alot she go straight to the point not so much talk. Love you darling nd keep motivating us.
Hi Val! My hair is not relaxed, yet I find your videos to be truly informative. There are things that I starting doing to my silk pressed hair about 3-4 years ago, before finding you on CZcams. I do them to maintain the health of my hair, thickness and length and they are similar to what you do. They have been working wonderfully for my hair. Thank you so much for such useful information that is helpful to many of us. 😊
Awww I’m glad you find my videos useful💕 that truly means a lot. Nothing like finding a routine that works and sticking to it!!
@@HairliciousInc My pleasure and you are right about that!
Yes, really enjoyed this.
Thank you for sharing this. I will definitely incorporate some of these techniques
Thanks Latonya!! Hope they help you💕
Great tips! Definitely going to try incorporating the finger combing to reduce breakage.
Can't say enough how much i appreciate you and your content. Your recommendations has helped me with my relaxed hair journey so much. Thank you!!!
Aww Phylicia!! It makes me happy to hear that my content has been useful to you. Thank you for the support💕
@@HairliciousInc you are more than welcome ☺ 😊 😘
@@HairliciousInc thank you Val. I also appreciate you and your content. New subscriber and I relaxed my hair in August 2020. My Hair is thriving, and on a journey to near waist level. Currently, my hair is past shoulders. I need to have my hair trimmed by my stylist. Loyal subscriber
Your contents are really great and clear🙏🏾. I tried your deep conditioning method and it's AMAZING!😃
I am experiencing more breakage since I am stretching my hair for 6months now😩. Will have my touch up soon and then I will stretch for 3-4months and see how that goes. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah finally another video, it is so nice to see you 🤗 same here no long time protective style for me either.
Hey Val! Great video as always. I learned a few more tips from you which I appreciate. Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure. Thank you for watching💕
Loved the information. As long as the hair is healthy. Natural/Relaxed... it's ok with me🤗 great channel. Keep going sis!💖
You NEVER disappoint! ALWAYS professional, informative and stimulating to watch.
Whew!🥺 thank you for the compliment. That means so much to me❤️
@@HairliciousIncThank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I texturized my 13 years hair for the first time a week ago leaving it in her hair for about 7mins total, it did losing the curl but it's not as straight as we would like, it puffy. I wanted to know if I could use a relaxer the next time and should I do the whole head again. She is 4 cdef...Its definitely more manageable.
Thank for sharing with us, can't wait to see your relaxing video. I relax my hair for years can't count went natural 2 years ago and this year I'm going back to relaxing again.
Thanks for watching💕
That relaxer is the best’ and my fav! Will try these tips and see how my hair takes on
Love this video, thank you for the tips. The combing the hair while wet tho, learned it the hard way the shedding is heartbreaking
I love when you share and talk about your hair do and don't I recently started to use the lye relaxer because it's cheaper am from Jamaica I noticed that when I stretch my relaxer too long my scalp burns a lot the no lye relaxer does nothing for me anymore I used it while going to school years ago so I also started combing my hair less and notice that my hair growth improved a lot so I love your videos I will continue to watch them in my hair journey and most of all I don't use a lot of product in my hair. One love always
Thank you for getting straight to the point.
Yeah … I feel you on the double heat. I have a blow dryer & a flat iron but usually when I do my weekly washing and conditioning.. I usually blow dry my hair then put my hair in a loose bun or ponytail… I have a $200 flat iron & I barely use it. I don’t see the need plus blow drying AND flat ironing that’s too much work… also I workout a lot so ain’t no point in doing all of that when I workout 5x per week 🤷🏽♀️
I wish I didn't need to do both but blow drying just doesn't cut it. Especially if I'm stretching. Buy using heat protectant (blow dry serum) has helped.
I take 1 tablespoon a day in my green tea every morning of blackstrap molasses it reverts gray hair I am 58 years old my hair is a rich black color now
Thank youuu!!
@Wanda Bailey what brand of Molasses do you use and is it diabetic friendly?
????🤔🤔
That is a pure MYTH.
This colour is gorgeous on you. I am pretty much the same as you, everything you mentionedI don't do. The only thing I don't do is self relax because I can't! I leave my hair alone, don't touch combs, only wash in the shower, only DC after shampoo, no hot oil...
Watched this while applying protein treatment like you taught me 🤗! Great tips per usual.
Ahh, love to hear it💕 enjoy your wash day! Thanks for watching.
I never relaxed my hair and I totally agree with you for those tips!
Wow, so I recently came to several realisations about my relaxed hair and you've mentioned about 90% of the things I have decided to start or stop doing based on what I have learned over time. Now if this video was out like 2 years ago, it would've saved me a lot of hair loss and heartbreak 😥. Thanks all the same, I'm grateful for you sharing your experiences, it's great to know that these steps have worked for someone else.
Thanks for this video, I no longer feel like the odd person out for not doing weaves and braids anymore. I learned the hard way that for me, it only brought breakage. Also another big lesson I learned thanks 🙏🏽 to you was I was using too much protein. From the shampoo to the leave in was loaded with it and it showed in my hair. I had overly dry hair with a irritated scalp. Before subscribing to your channel, I knew nothing about moisturizing and sealing and it has been a saving grace to my hair. Happy Sunday to you as well and thanks 🙏🏽 again for doing what you do.
Oh my goodness. You are sharing my story.
I always enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Marilyn😍
This video has taught me sooo much!! Thank you!! ❤❤
Great Video! I just recently noticed that my tangles are significantly less when I wash in the shower and not over the sink.
Very useful tips! Especially number 10. I’m always combing my hair for no apparent reason, and because of that I’ve been experiencing a lot of breakage, of course plus all the other stuff I’ve been doing wrong
Another great video! You look beautiful as always!
I thought I was the only one that didn’t do hot oil treatments. I feel oils are more beneficial when I add them to my deep conditioner. Also once my hair got longer I could no longer use the sink either because it would go down the drain and it was a lot of work to wash in the sink
Not trolling but laughing at it going into the sink drain because it was so long. My hair never gets that long due to shrinkage and me always cutting it.
@@marleyhill34 😂😂! Girl I would have all my ends just going down the drain but I would use the kitchen sink so it wouldn’t break off. It was hard trying to hold the ends and shampoo at the same time
@@RoseSimeus lol! I'm a lazy natural... Lol! Not holding the ends and shampooing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trying to grow out my pixie cut and your tips have been so helpful in maintaining healthy hair
Awww nice!! Happy hair growing, sis💕
These tips really do help! I have a similar rotine and my hair never looked healthier and longer... sending love from brazil 💖💖❤
Amazing I just relaxed my hair and those tips are on time ..thank you 😀
Awesome!! Nothing like a fresh relaxer💕Tfw
I completely understand the feeling of combing your hair wet. I stopped doing that and my hair has been thriving.
Awesome 👌🏾
I love my Gray hair! I'll be 60 on the 11th..
It's just a sign of Wisdom..
You look Beautiful lady.. ALWAYS 😍 ❤
tfs God Bless you ❣ 🙏🏽
Thanks Val!!! Love the info
Great video sis!
Good to know that you don't have to stretch protect styles to have long hair! This video answers my questions. Thank you.
Question, please! Do you oil your scalp between wash days?
Excellent video! 👌🏾 I just had to subscribe. Your information is on point, especially tip #7 double heat which I am guilty of. 😉
Thank you for this 🙏🏽. Everything is this vid was useful and helpful.
So happy it helped you!
It’s the make up and hair in this video for me!!! Wait…thanks for the tips too@hairlicious
Thank you so much!! xoxo
I’ve always loved your videos! I’m Loc’d as of 6/30/16 however comma you definitely helped out in my relaxed hair journey! Keep up these beautiful information videos.😘 P.S. relaxers worked best for me in the past 😉
Thank you again 🥰
Aww thank you Jazmyne for the love and support. My sis is loc'd too!! Love how low maintenance locs are.
@@HairliciousInc yes sis low maintenance if you really don’t do much with your hair but I like to style them once a month! I also love to give queens their flowers while they’re still here and you definitely deserve yours! What I will say is that I still use jbco with my locs during the summer and winter because of you! So thank you sis!
I used to roller set my hair with the black rollers with the netting and those pink stick pins and let it dry naturally..my hair was at it's healthiest!!
Only works if your hair dries in 8 hours naturally. Some unfortunate souls have hair that us still wet after 48 hours and that is bad for the hair and the scalp. Bacteria and fungus love warm damp dark places. Hygral fatigue/mushy happens in strands that have been wet for too long.
That's very important information, thank you! My hair is so fine it dries within an hour... @marleyhill34
Spot on about lye relaxers being better for hair, harsher on scalp. I've been on lye for 20 years. My hair is mid back, and that's because I cut it to keep it that length.
You truelly are the best thank you for sharing as always
Your vibes are so relaxing, positive, and I love it!!
Awww💋 appreciate you, girl!
Love your videos. I love the fact that you are able to maintain texture in your hair. I’m struggling with that because my hair processes really fast. Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks hun for the love💕 Definitely use a normal or mild relaxer. You may also want to add oil and/or conditioner to slow the process.
Pulled some great tips from you even though my hair is natural now. I think I need to stop detangling in the shower. Everyone said do it at first but I feel like I'm losing too much hair!
Thanks so much for this informative video. Learnt a lot and am grateful ❤️
So happy to hear, thanks Rose for watching :)
this color looks so good on you 🥰
Yea we should do listen to our hair and do what's best for it,thanks for sharing dear
Yes you are right I just cut off some inches from my hair today because I want healthy over length
Agreed!
Very good tips, thank you, Val!! 🤗
Happy to have found your channel. In a few days ,I will be getting my hair relaxed after 10 yrs. There is not alot of relaxed hair content on CZcams so your videos have been appreciated!
Thanks so much hun! Happy to have you here💕
All the best on your relaxer day.
@@kurlymeka thank you!
Thank you so much 💓 I learned so much about my hair. PS you are so beautiful and I love your hair. 🥰🥰🥰
So happy my videos have been helpful💕 Aww thanks hun for the luv!!
One thing I notice that you do that I don’t is smoothing the relaxer through the new growth with a comb. Applicator brush only for my stylist and that keeps my strands thick and nice!
Thats because she puts protectant on her ends.
@@mrsx7944 I’m not talking about the ends, I’m talking about the new growth she’s relaxing. Using a comb to smooth takes out too much texture and makes it straight even when wet
@@Tasiaevansss oh I see.
headband wigs are such a vibe!
Can't wait to get one!
Great video, very informative.
My hair has become more and more gray but along with my hair growing longer, my hair along my crown is becoming very thin. Could be due to health reasons or vitamin deficiencies. The only time heat touches my hair is during retouches but I’m thinking of foregoing both blow drying and flat ironing my next visit to see if it’ll make a difference; will opt to air dry instead.
These were great tips! I comb my hair daily but I may try using my fingers instead to see how my hair responds
Or just try fingers first and then your comb after - if finger detangling alone doesn’t work😉
@@HairliciousInc since I watched this, I have stopped combing everyday and surprisingly my fingers do the job well. Thanks for the tips
These are all the things I Don’t do either, Great video!
Thank you so much for you hair tips, the way you put it together is truly classy, which encourage me to subscribe to you channel.. best wishes from the Bahamas❤
Thank you so much for these videos 🤍🙏🏽
Got my hair relaxed at a salon and my hair has been shedding every since I will never do that again thank you so much for the hair tips
Val you are simply the best. Ever sis I started following you my hair is the healthiest it has ever been. Still on that castor oil challenge
Awww🥺 kudos to you for being so committed. Love that! Wishing you healthy hair, sis!!
@@HairliciousInc Thank you dear 🙏🏽
Thanks for the awesome tips as always.
Thanks girlie!!
Texlax is for me. I wear wigs due to time. Take it off when home. 8 weeks between relaxers. No braids or twists no flat ironing just smoothing with a warm pressing comb. Placed in a back twist supported by a nonbrakage rubber band. No combing for three days. No breakage seen. Good hair growth. Trim as needed, but not cut just dusting. My hair grows slowly about less than half inch a month. But it is thick. Less see thru. Shoulder length. Use bjco. 3 time a week. Wash with conditioner. Silk scarf at night. Then be content with the process
I love your teaching I get better understand any time I listing to u
Thanks for the info, we have a lot in common with the things I don't do, I try to comb my hair every 2 to 3 days and can't strech much either at 10 to 12 weeks, that is it!
Me too
The camera quality is amazing!!!!!
You’re so beautiful. I really love this look. Subscribed!!!!! 💕 💕 💕
You look amazing!!! So pretty!
I love ❤️ the fingers as a comb. I do use my fingers (not nails) to message daily. Plus, I rarely shampoo. I message and then use my own hair rinse or steeped rosemary and mint.
Finger combing has been a useful skill💕🙌🏾
We love you Val!
🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️
Thanks for the video. You brought out some really good tips, especially the one about conditioning and then deep conditioning. The best hair color is one called Elumen. You'll need to work with the color unless you just want your hair black. It's not easy to find, but in the end, it's worth it. What is the link to how you deep condition? Thanks.
First, I just had to resubscribe??? I don't know what happened.
Loved this video! Just relaxed this morning after only 2 days post wash (oooooops!, but I was OK, lol).
Oh no! Thanks for subscribing again🥰 no burns hopefully?🤞🏾
Thank you so much for all the help, because of taking your advice I’ve been able to get my edges back and less shedding
A lot of people have noticed a difference, I had to take an inch off only because it’s my old see through ends but my hair is thriving something crazy
So happy to hear this!! Health over length, sis.
@hairlicious Inc I would recommend a detangling brush. It is a game changer when it comes to detangling
Thank you for sharing these❤️
Thank you for watching💕
I wish I came across your channel sooner. You share valuable tips.
Great video but on another note I so miss the original hairlista website I learnt so much from that site about so many aspects of life....
It’s been twenty weeks since my last relaxer at the end of this month I’ll relax it.. i havent’t used any heat for seven years now I’ve learned the hard way. My hair is healthy because of it… I dry my hair thoroughly with a t-shirt and let it dry naturally…
