  • My relaxer day routine for healthier relaxed hair!
Hey girl, thank you for tuning in! My relaxer day routine is officially here. I’m so excited because this has been highly requested by you guys. In today’s video, I share with you my entire relaxer touch-up process from start to finish. Usually I trim my ends every relaxer with my stylist. I don’t self-trim. I’ve been self relaxing, with the help of my sister, for the past 10 years. In this video I emphasize the importance of protecting and prepping your hair before a relaxer for stronger healthier tresses. I swear by all the methods, products and techniques I share in this video as they have worked well for me and my hair over the years.
So today, I’m demonstrating how to achieve and maintain healthy relaxed hair while relaxing at home. I also share tips for taking care of your relaxed hair to prevent under-processing, over-processing, overlap, relaxer run-off etc. so that your hair can grow long, thick and healthy!
Be sure to share this video with another Relaxed sis!
As always, thanks for watching! Oh, and don't forget to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE :)

Well maybe you & her both can explain the reason for all the “heat protectants?” You’re relaxed, the bond & hairs integrity is already compromised and being already relaxed minimum heat is needed! You can get these results using a good blowout with a paddle brush like you do in preparation for a silk press.

This makes me wish that I knew how to take care of relaxed hair when I was younger, my mom relaxed me at 8 or 9 years old, and my hair used to be almost thigh length, and it broke off up to my shoulders because we didnt know how to protect the parts of hair that didnt need to be re relaxed, I hate that I ever relaxed my hair, I'm 2 years natural now, and I'm lil bellow bra length, I think I might have hit a limit or something, but my hair hasn't grown much of the last 6 month's, and I've been doing the most for the hair making shure its moisturized, I played ablot with hairstyles, so now I have mini twists for the 3rd week and I'm going to try the more hands off approach maybe that will grow some more length 🙏
Girl you're hair is beautiful, and I'm glad you were able to keep all that length w the relaxer

I just went back to a relaxer because being natural was time consuming and my Twistouts would always come out wrong on my most important days. I have 4 different textures of hair. Wavy, curly, wavy/curly and extremely straight. Each section is a different texture which became too much work. My front right side has no wave or curl pattern at all so I found myself having to retwist (2 strand twist) every 3 days. It did more damage than good for me due to the constant manipulation. I've always relaxed every 4 months so I never experienced breakage, I still had texture and my hair was thick, hanging down my back and beautiful. People used to ask if it was a wig. I said all of that just to say I never knew my friends were relaxing their hair every 6 weeks. I asked them if they were crazy and then explained to them that was the reason their hair was breaking. Too much of anything is bad for us. I see women with natural hair and I be like you go girl you are rocking that style! I just tell myself girl everything isn't for everyone and unfortunately my mixed textures fight against me...lol

@@HairliciousInc The key to all life goals!
Looking back on your video really taught me a life lesson: with intention, care, love and patience you really can achieve anything.
Some people don't just want straight hair but almost an extinction of their kicks. So, they end up over processing, overlapping and being too eager to get a result. Overall, in the end they get the straightness but lose the health.
However with you, you prioritize health, length and longevity of your hair. I'm inferring that for you its not just straightness you seek, but self care & manageability. As a young black woman, I really do appreciate you showing this.
Eventhough I may never go back, I now know that even if you perm you can still treat your hair with love. No one has ever shown me that. For them, it was almost a self deprecating act that sowed in the message that kinks were not acceptable and should be rid of. Now I see another way to view it.
      Keep treating yourself with love!

Great process! I always say gaining health and length on Afro textured hair is a thinking game. It is not possible to be consistently successful by guessing. This video demonstrates and epitomizes this concept. You have thought about your process from starting on a different side each time, to understanding that your hair is thicker in the back and you need to start there. Also, your prep process of using the porosity product and hair grease to protect your previously, processed hair from the touch-up and runoff, required analysis and thought, too. Pre-parting is genius! Beautiful afro-textured hair, relaxed or natural, rarely comes about by accident. That's a million dollar process you have developed over the last ten years. Excellent video, as usual. And of course your hair came out gorgeous!

I haven't been " natural" in a minute but i have some girls saying " wow is that your real hair that long" ?
    Me: yup
Them: i want hair that long .
    But i do
    keep my ends trimmed
And my scalp clean and greased and stimulated for blood circulation
    Hair washed
    I take my daily vitamins
Wrap my hair in a satin wrap every night
I only texlax each time i have 5 inches of new growth which is every season
Plus the trims which are needed once in a while .
The thing is not to break down all the keratin in your hair and rebuild at every wash i use a natural hair keratin fortified formula and egg protein to strengthen my hair .

  • @thisnigerianlovesdrinkingg4522

I’m so happy people still relax their hair and aren’t pressured to be natural. Trust me it isn’t the easiest thing. This may not be the safest thing for you heart but at the end of the day it’s your hair, your choice, your health risks. I think people need to pay attention to their own lives instead of putting so much thought into others.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I was natural from 2000-2012 and I love both relaxer and natural 🎀by the way when I was natural I did not flat iron until I was ready to make the switch✂️ I did not like it was to flat and straight hate it 🙀but with relaxed hair it was fuller with bounce and body. Just do it whatever works for you. You gotta decide the up keep and willing to maintain it 😺

@Caramel Cupcake That's pretty young to relax a child's head though, so I understand the hate. Plus, I wouldn't do that cause what if the child grows up and wished their hair was never relaxed. I don't want to take that choice away from them. But it's pretty weird to adopt black children to forget how hard hair care would be

    • @DayGrin_
      @DayGrin_ Před 3 lety +2

@Caramel Cupcake Honestly depends on the child at the end of the day. I hope they grow to like it and even if they don't they can cut it all off later in life. I wish my hair was never relaxed

    • @DayGrin_
      @DayGrin_ Před 3 lety

@Caramel Cupcake I actually think kinky hair is more versatile. There's more styles you can do because of the certain texture you have. Plus you can always straighten it anytime. I'm not sure if you can have the same "body" or fullness when you have a wash and go vs relaxed hair when you want to replicate that. Dreads and braids seem to look better if your hair is more kinky imo. But thats just me

I agree with you about ppl paying attention to their own lives and worrying about themselves. But I don’t agree with the health risks statement. If ppl are saying they are natural for the health benefits, all power to them. But chemicals are chemicals. If you were makeup, use cleaning products, eat fast food, sugar or anything else processed, guess what..you’re getting chemicals into your body..so🤷🏾‍♀️. Unless you a vegetarian and are only eating vegetables from your own garden, using no cleaning products, using natural soap and detergents and wearing no makeup, you are not fully natural lol. Natural hair, and probably just bc your hair didn’t thrive with a relaxer, but not a full natural body systemically.

I had always used a no lye relaxer because thats what we were told to use. Lye relaxers were considered evil...however, purely by mistake just before Christmas last year, I bought a lye relaxer through sally's online...I had it so I used it but was SO scared! Well let me tell you...GAME CHANGER! My scalp didn't burn, and my hair didn't feel stiff as it did with the no lye. So, for the time being, its only lye relaxers for this chick. I use silk elements normal.

@@Maryjane13400 Hi there, I'm a licensed Cosmetologist for 20 years and I just wanted to share some important info:
Relaxers/Perms are made up of acids and other corrosive agents which can cause toxicity in the blood...I strongly advise against using lye, including limited use of hair dye/bleach/no-lye products.
No-lye relaxers were introduced to reduce the serious side effects and health issues that arose in men & women using lye to straighten their hair. Also, lye is sodium hydroxide / a METAL hydroxide...it's used in oven cleaners, de-cloggers, and is used to decompose/dissolve dead bodies...could you believe it's even used to preserve some foods like pretzels and bagels! Continued/consistent use of any chemical can cause serious health issues over time.
Please don't jeopardize your health for the feeling or appearance of your hair. The FDA has not regulated nor approved every product(or food) - being sold in stores does not equal safe. There are more gentle alternatives to where your beautiful hair : ) All the best!

The extra TLC you take with your hair, I have never experienced it with ANY licensed cosmetologist!!! The extra steps and care is unmatched! A lot BLACK hair stylists can take a lot of lessons from you. Many wouldn't mind paying good money to get their hair done, with this level of care. Kudos to you! I used to have relaxed hair until September this year when I did the big chop.

I’ve been pre parting for years! It’s interesting to see someone else do it. We coat my daughters hair with coconut oil except the new growth because coconut oil helps the hair retain protein. We use no lye ORS resistant because it’s easy to get. We may switch once I figure out where to get a good lye one from.Coconut oil also actually penetrates the hair shaft for added protection.

I’ve been natural for 13 years and it’s refreshing to see your video/ technique. When I use to get relaxers, my hair was just as healthy as it is now. So I totally agree it’s about hair care period. Not sure if I will ever go back because I love going from silk press ( which is usually like 3 times a year) to my curly styles. People always ask me about my flat twist and two strand twist technique it’s a process for sure. But I believe if all of us share our hair care techniques regardless of this natural vs relaxed hair stuff what a movement this would be. I embrace it all. I just love healthy hair. Nothing against weave or wigs but it’s just something about healthy hair. I saw my childhood stylist a few weeks ago while visiting home in Louisiana and she was so proud to see how healthy my hair continues to remain. Miss those silk press and roller wrap days. All of us had edges and hair down our backs. I’m here for it all. Thank you again for sharing.

I self relaxed my hair for the first time and did this technique, and it really did make the process so much easier! My only issue is that some of my twists were coming loose before I applied the relaxer. My hair is about 3 in shy of bra strap and layered so maybe length has something to do with it? Either way, this is a super helpful video that has given me the confidence to self relax every time now. My hair comes out with more texture because I use affirm but that fact that you can air dry that straight and smooth is amazing. Girl I wish! Lol

I went to a stylist for the first time in years, and she was surprised that my hair was so healthy (she specialized in natural hair and health so she doesn't get alot of relaxed, and she said most of them are really short). I really appreciate your routine, particularly the neutralizing phase. Some people have an awful relaxer scent days after relaxing and I knew it was because the hair wasn’t properly neutralized. You have a healthy routine that makes perfect sense scientifically. Years ago When I had a relaxer and understood the science behind it, I played with the steps a bit which still gave me great results. Because of the pH of relaxers, I knew the cuticles would remain open until after the neutralizing step. I would do a a two step conditioning process. Right after rinsing the relaxer, I would add a deep conditioner like Affirm Fiberguard, Olaplex would be perfect at this point to strengthen the bonds. Because the cuticles were open, my hair soaked up all the goodness from the deep conditioner, then I would use a neutralizing shampoo followed by a conditioner, leave in etc. I didn’t have any problems with breakage at all and I had fine colour treated hair, bra strap length.
