Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. Today we're taking a look at the 2023 KTM 690 SMC R. Is it the ultimate supermoto? Let's find out. First off, let's talk about its powerplant. The 690cc single-cylinder engine pumps out 74 horsepower and 54 pound-feet of torque, and it's mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This thing is a lot of fun to ride, and it'll definitely put a smile on your face. The suspension on the SMC R is top-of-the-line. Up front, you've got WP APEX USD forks, and in the rear, you've got a WP APEX shock. The bike is really stable and handles incredibly well on the street and in the corners. The brakes on this bike are nothing to mess around with either. You've got Brembo M4.32 calipers up front with a 320mm rotor, and a Brembo single-piston caliper in the rear with a 240mm rotor. Braking is smooth, controlled, and powerful. Overall, the 2023 KTM 690 SMC R is a fantastic supermoto. It's a ton of fun to ride, handles incredibly well, and the brakes are top-notch. I own a 690 sm
it's an older model, but it brings a smile on my face
it's by only bike
I use it for commuting within the city, I use it for travelling around the country on vacations, but most of all I use it for fun
it's fun even going to work
One of the most fun bikes I have ridden! A hooligan! How is reliability though?

I had a little issue with the clutch and fuel pump, nothing serious
I have the bike since 2018, zero issues with the engine
I have no fear of starting a trip for 1000+ km
Just paying attention to the engine oil
I change it way earlier than what the manual says, I live in Greece, summer is quite hot here
Heat is no good for the oil

The standard would be fine also, but I'd add the front fender

@@Spyros.ts13 Becareful of the KTM 890 they seem to have allot of faults. I gave mine back to the dealer after only 10 days due to problems

Acquistato KTM smc 690 - R anno 2023 dopo aver avuto un modello precedente della stessa moto.
Davvero un abominio di moto. moto notevolmente nel motore e nella componentistica. Visto l’abominio acquistato ho deciso di modificarla completamente per provare a farla andare correttamente.
Ho completamente modificato la moto con:
- Scarico Tekmo completo no cat
- mappa dedicata
- filtro aria dna
- rimozione ricircoli e cannister
La moto è migliorata ma l'erogazione rimane pessima. Cosa poi che non riesce ad essere modificata è la mancanza del freno motore causa intervento elletronico. Non si ha quindi freno motore e sembra di guidare un 2T. inoltre l’accelerata che viene data ti fa sbagliare i punti di frenata se freni forte.
La qualità di tutte le plastiche è poi peggiorata tantissimo, ho già i carter del motore tutti segnati ( probabilmente dovuti ad una plastica più scadente ).

Awesome, I enjoyed my few hours riding it. I imagine i could get in loads of trouble if i owned one! how long have you had yours and has it been trouble free miles?
I got a left over '22 in March . Only problem so far was a minor oil leak from the countershaft seal, replaced under warranty. So rewarding to ride on the back lanes, where the average speed cameras don't live. It does make you do naughty things though, you're right about that.@@ontheroadadventure

I would suggest this 690 SMC would be ideal for that! It really is a hooligans bike! Have you found your KTM to be reliable?
Idk. I have the supermoto and am thinking of going the other way and getting the duke.

Can't help thinking you cut out all the best parts with music, the choice of sub trance/house music was cool but you cut the heart of the machine story in your review. It just didn't seem like the right kind of bike for you too review on this great channel. Sorry just being honest even though I appreciate the upload. So many bad reviews of the bike here? I have a duke 390 and its a blast and great bike to have fun on, so i can imagine this is even better. The comments below about value loss after purchasing seem right though. Looks like you get enough engine for the money but its seems like it's missing a lot of things to make it better too. Albeit it's fun bike in mind.
This is a great fun bike, a fun toy but not practical I’d say. The music was needed due to audio quality with the wind 👍

I have a 2020 1290 SDR and got a 2021 husqvarna 701sm to sit along side it. I had it a year then sold it. I regretted it so am very close on getting a 23 690.

@@ontheroadadventure the Husky 701 and KTM 690 are the same bike minus some of the plastic body work. So it’s not gonna be any different to the one I had.
Im afraid i have been put off the KTM brand, my brand new bike lasted 20 days before the Faults became dangerous and i lost faith in the bike and the brand. Check out the new video - ktm 890 adventure owners experience
@@ontheroadadventure I can totally understand that. I’ve had a similar issue in the past with a car. But that was mainly down to an incompetent dealer techs.
@@Robbiemoto Partially this time, certainly the headstock bearings should have been spotted by the techs but the rest is unforgivable
Does the exhaust melt the back indicator like the 701 ?
I haven’t heard any reports of that yet, but it is a KTM!

I have a 2023 690 smcr and don't have a gear indicator on my bike.... 😐
One less thing to go wrong!
I have a 2022 and it has gear indicator. The display for each function can be toggled to view or hide. Read the manual

I miss my 690 smcr, I sold it to buy a new superduke which is another insane bike but on those grubby days in England when you don’t need 180bhp and 75 is more than enough I really really miss my 690, really quick bike, a well ridden 690 will keep up with a 1290 on tight twisty roads, only gripe with 690 is its poor on a motorway as does not like to be held at a constant rev so hard to ride long distance unless it’s all back roads which then takes an age
Did you find it to be reliable? I bought the 890 and it was shocking!
Load of junk, worst bike I have owned quickshifter false neutrals all the time brakes fade the moment you start pushing it, euro 5 kills the engine and runs too hot and burns oil plus ALL the nuts and bolts will rust first time they get wet, after 3-4K miles the engine will rattle like a tin can, you will probably spend like I did another £3k upgrading all the important stuff so add that into the £10k you just spent and then after a year of constant problems and warranty issues that KTM couldn’t care less about I sold the bike for £6k because that’s all the market seems to think it’s worth MASSIVE loss and a huge disappointment
Unfortunately I have to agree, I bought the KTM 890 adventure and had a similar experience to you! Shocking bike, il never by KTM again. A real shame

I feel your pain it’s hard Financial Times and this is where manufacturers need to step up and build trust in there brand for you to slap best part of 10-15k of hard earned, I will never buy KTM again I have had my tenere 700 3 weeks and already gone places and meet people the bike builds trust and reliability and Yamaha themselves are always willing to help, and that gives me the confidence to go further push myself and the bike spend extra cash on upgrades because I know it’s all worth it unlike my 690 where I felt left in the dark doing warranty repairs myself.
