Why are both of these soundtracks so overlooked? The Sega Mega CD soundtracks have some of the best Ecco soundtracks, coming from one of the best Mega CD composers, Spencer Nilsen
Yeah he's a beast. Did the US Sonic CD soundtrack too which is one of the most underrated game soundtracks in existence. Sega CD soundtracks were literally ahead of their time too because of the CD quality audio. I remember it blowing my mind at the time.
@@SnackPatrol So a few things to note. 1: Many disc based games in the early to mid 90s were pretty terrible. A lot of people thought little of the format, aside from the younger generation and tech enthusiasts with money. So, popularity was low. 2: Most didn't expect high quality sound. As to why the sound quality is so high, it is nowhere near as compressed as modern MP3 tracks. 3: It's part of a video game soundtrack. Most people don't expect any soundtrack to have any quality, especially when it's associated with a game. 4: More to do with Ecco 2 itself. The CD version has a completely different soundtrack from the Cart version. Having played both, I can confirm it's a mixed bag. In some stages, the CD version is the better version. In other stages, the Cart version is better. CD has the natural atmospheric element, and the Cart has the strange alien element. Both work for the game, but can be out of place and distracting on the wrong stage. Fortunately, this is one of the better options for it's placement.
Interesting to hear that the Ecco 2 tracks have various sealife sounds baked right into the track, as opposed to Ecco 1, or the official album release, "Songs of Time"
One of my favorites as well. I think the music in the Sega CD version was slightly better, and the animated cut scenes (history glyphs) were cutting edge at the time. Other than those 2 things, same thing as the Genesis version.
I want whatever the guy was smoking who thought up ECCO the dolphin and the music. I wonder what playing this game in a real intense high would be like.
Really? I'm getting more of a "Mercy Street" vibe from this song. But you are right in that I could easily imagine this as something Peter Gabriel composed and produced.
Fav track in the game . so beautiful :O
Best Ecco Song PERIOD!
Moray abyss is good too. It's so aquatic sounding, also check out kolibri for the Sega 32X
I can see how the two of you consider this your fav song of Ecco
It was very relaxing and definately enjoyable!

Soothing and meditative

ecco will always be my favorite dolphin!
Thanks for all of the Ecco CD uploads... Much appreciated!
Some parts of this reminds me of the opening to blade runner.
this is my sleeping music

check out Kolibri for the sega 32X, made by novotrade
Very nice sounds!
Strangely enough, this song has a little reminiscence of Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain"!

I get the Mercy Street feeling, but the Melody sounds like Red Rain
+Noah Lipsey that would explain the title.
I'm eight years late, but this comment is the reason I discovered Peter Gabriel. I wanted to say thank you for that
@@structor125 that’s wonderful to hear! Gabriel’s a mastermind of art pop. If you like him, you may also like Kate Bush & Tears For Fears !
Why is this titled 'St. Gabriel's Mask'?
Who is Saint Gabriel? What is his mask? And how does that relate to what's Ecco's doing?
V what he said lol
