It's cool how well the stories of the games are well represented by the lyrics as well. Really good nostalgia bringer. One song hooks you right back to when you played it.
Light twists and falls Like shadowy curtains of time… The deeper I go Day slips away into night… The world is so cold Being alone frightens me… With heart and with soul My voice echoes on through the sea: “You’ve got a way!” (Got a way) “Be unafraid!” (Be unafraid) No matter where you go You know I’ll find you! No matter where you’ve been I’ll bring you home In the dark of day I’ll be the answer! Put your trust in me And you’ll never be alone… Be alone… My body’s so tired I raise to the surface and sky… Take all your dreams And follow me into the light. Sometimes there’s hope Sometimes Gabriel’s mask has the truth When all is unknown It’s our faith that pulls us through Oh oh oh oh Whoa-oh Oh oh oh oh Whoa-oh! (whoa-oh whoa-oh whoa-oh whoa-oh…) No matter where you go You know I’ll find you! I don’t know how But I know we’ll make it home!
That is EXACTLY what Happens to Ecco in the first two games. He became an extension & a Proxy of sorts, of a “Higher Power” during the climax of the First Game. In the second We see the consequences & The depth of This Relationship, Especially since one of the Games plot points involves Saving that Higher Power.
A truly great song. I got this song quite awhile ago. Downloaded on a lark and ended up loving it. They were smart to remix the actual music with the new parts.
Fun Fact: The vocal remix itself was considered to be included in the game. But the creator ultimately refused, as it would conflict with the game's setting and the creator's creative vision. No humans are present in-game.
@@LXZ According to the composer of the game's music in an interview, he recalls that the creator of Ecco (Ed Annunziata) said to him that "There's not a single human element in Ecco. You don't see a car, you don't see a tire, nothing like that. Therefore, I don't want any human elements in the soundtrack". And indeed, there are no humans in Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time, but there ARE human elements. You can see sunken ships, the lost city of Atlantis, statues of humans, time machines built by the Atlanteans, etc. I've always felt this was kinda weird, I dunno what to think. In Christian mythology Gabriel is the patron saint of messengers, and is frequently the one who appears in the old testament in various guises to speak to God's favored. He's frequently depicted with a trumpet. He is also an Archangel like Michael and thus fully capable of wrecking face. Given the song is about Ecco and his experiences from the first game, the title implies that he himself is St. Gabriel's mask. The angel's latest mortal guise.

Vocal Dub of St. Gabriel's Mask is "Sega Power Cuts 1" exclusive, not present in the game.

This sounds like a theme music to a young and fearful but brave protagonist; in my mind, a superpowered immortal.

What's the hell his the St Gabriel's mask?
Might refer to Gabriel the Archangel in Christian mythology or any of the other canonized men who were named Gabriel?
@@MaxLebled I know what's angel Gabriel is, but what's the connection with the cetaceus?
@@T0mR0b1n no idea. Maybe we should ask Spencer Nilsen 😁
