    Hello. In negative sentences in the present tense, the subject agrees with DO/ DOES. Then add NOT + HAVE (base form of the verb). Examples:
    I do not have it. / You do not have it. / She does not have it./ He does not have it./ We do not have it./ They do not have it.

    Hi Jennifer! I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Your videos have been a life-saver while teaching the lowest level of students online during this pandemic. • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mona. You're very welcome. I'm glad my videos can supplement what you're teaching. Natasha and I had to end our lessons abruptly when family circumstances prompted them to move away to another town. She continued lessons at a local library (where some people recognized her!), and she continue to immerse herself more in the community.
      Please watch my other series for high beginners. czcams.com/play/PLfQSN9FlyB6Rm4xMKTyahH3oUOgF0tU4T.html I work with two ladies on camera. Again, we had to end our studies rather abruptly when COVID lockdowns began, but I filmed enough to create a decent collection. I'm going to post the latest video later today.
      You may find some of my ideas and handouts useful. Here's the link to my ELT blog. englishwithjennifer.wordpress.com/ You can do a search for "beginners" or "basic English."
      Happy teaching!

    In standard American English we use "don't have" to express a lack of something in our possession. > I don't have a pencil.
    You might hear "haven't got" in some common expressions, though:
    1. "I haven't got all day!" = Hurry!
    2. "She hasn't got a clue." = She's completely clueless. / She doesn't know anything (about something).
    Please feel free to post these kinds of questions on my forum on my website. :)

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před 3 lety +1

      In American English, we use HAVE and DO NOT HAVE:
      I have a car.
      I don't have a truck
      He has a truck.
      He doesn't have a car.
      In American English, "have not" is used in the present perfect:
      I haven't finished my work yet.
      >> See my playlist on verb tenses. :)

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před 10 lety +1

      When DO/DOES is the auxiliary verb, the main verb is in the base form (without "to").
      Examples:
      1. Do you use CZcams?
      2. Does your brother study English?
      3. I don't know her phone number.

      Someone can look at you in a peculiar way.
      Someone can have a peculiar way of doing something.
      Someone's behavior can be peculiar.

      2. BRUSH - we can count: 1 brush, 2 brushes, 3 brushes. So we say, "I don't have a brush." We can ask, "Do you have a brush?"
