    Hi there!
I'm an online English teacher and I'm excited to be working with some students in Vietnam. I'm currently exploring the best payment platform to receive lesson fees.
I was wondering if you have any thoughts on using local money agents in Vietnam. While it might be an option, I'm also open to hearing about other secure and efficient payment methods that work well for both Vietnamese students and international tutors like myself.
I did some research and i discovered that some payment platforms are not accessible in Vietnam which is a little bit of a problem. Please what do you suggest? Thank you.

Bro, I was in Vietnam for almost 1 year in 2019 - 2020 and Ha Tam jewelry was the one that had like 30-40 people waiting in line.. Mai Van only had a few people there.. I was going to Ha Tam every few weeks.

Basically, have a bank card that has a bank in Vietnam. And then, use those foreign currencies, and exchange it here in these places for the local currency. So use your foreign card as a credit card. Then use this bank as a local debit card account, and exchange as you need it. I think that is best.

      For example......this Feb 2024.
Official exchange rate was about 24,600 VND to $1 USD.
But I got 25,000 VND to $1 USD at a Hanoi Airport (Exchange).
Inside Hanoi (old town-tourist area) I got 25,500 VND to $1 USD.
A Na Trang jewelry store also gave me 25,500 VND to $1 USD.
By the time I got to Saigon I was getting 25,200 to $1 USD.
Sorry, but I didn't use the Bank this trip.

Chris, how in the world do people live in a country
like Vietnam with all those millions of motorcycles and cars
honking and shit. It seems so chaotic and dangerous.

am happy for you man!! Peace~

    • @ZommBleed
      @ZommBleed Před rokem

It's annoying as hell. Tolerating it and getting used to it are two diametrically opposed concepts. If you try to do any audio or video with audio soundtrack recordings it will frustrate the hell out of you. Even the less populated areas do it. Horns are likened to flashing high beams or using turn signals in the West. It's just something you have to accept when you go to VN. (Thailand has much less of it.) Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I love Vietnam and hope to return soon...2023 I hope. My love for Thailand and Japan are on par, with different likes and dislikes respectively.

I used the Citibank ATM at the Central Park. Was allowed 6.6Million per transaction for $3. Now in Da Nang I can only 2Million per transaction. That being said.....YES, some VN banks have a very small daily limit(s) when withdrawing money from their ATMs. I've found that it's the same, for when traveling in Thailand.

The difference among jewelry shops is negligible, it's not worth it to shop around. What's important is their rates are always higher than banks or whatever an app tells you. Also, they'll exchange any bills but will give you a lower rate for old/crumpled or lower denomination ones. From experience, Vietcombank and Timo/Viet Capital have the strictest rules for foreigners; VP Bank is relatively lax.
