  • The Dowina Pomona featured in the video is 100% hand made in Stans workshop with all solid wood construction. Retailing at £899 it sets a new standard for what you can expect in an acoustic guitar at this price.
You can read more about them at our catalog and you can also chat to me on live help most hours...

The back story behind Dowina guitars is quite wonderful. One man, his daughter and their small team. Travelling the globe seeking the finest tone woods and living the dream - to build guitars and share a passion with musicians around the World.
My right hand man (Jon) visited the workshop last year - even before I had a guitar to sell! We had been given samples but frankly it all seemed just too good to be true.
Check out this link to the video where we chat about our experiences with Dowina and Jons time spent with Stan at the Dowina workshop in Slovakia.

I can confirm from personal experience that these are amazing instruments - I have a master built special edition Dowina ACERO with sitka spruce top and purpleheart back and sides made by Stan himself and it is simply an amazing instrument. As I am Slovak myself and live nearby, I even had the pleasure of Erika personally showing me around their shop :-). The passion for the wood just shines through their instruments. I highly recommend Dowina guitars.

Dowina guitars are amazing. They stand out with their rich, balanced sound, no-frills design and playability. I especially like their very specific woody sound. Along with Furch guitars, Dowina guitars offer probably the best value for money among higher-end acoustic guitars.

Just recently discovered your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your content, your honesty and your passion for the guitars that you demo and sell. I bought a guitar, A Fender Strat, which I still have, from you back in the days of the old shop, 1997 if memory serves me right. Keep up the informative videos and I hope the new premises prove to be a catalyst for spreading your enthusiasm, and building the audience, for all these great guitars that you sell. These do look amazing guitars for the price. If I am down you way any time soon I will surely make an appointment to come and try one out.
One thing I really did think worth mentioning though is that I feel you are not doing yourself any favours with the sound quality on some of the videos. The automatic gain control is having a real negative impact on how the guitars sound and are slightly spoiling the otherwise great content. So please turn off the AGC, set the levels manually and get the audio panned to the centre rather than over to one side. I hope you can take this slight criticism in the manner it's intended, not to put a downer on the stuff that you do, but to ensure you give us the best audio of what look like some amazing guitars that you have to show.
    Keep up the great content.

Correct. Dowina couldn't make the numbers they were demanding so I believe they dropped them. Its a classic example.... when you have a brand THIS good on your shop wall - everyone wants one. If you cannot supply them it kills sales rather than generates them. Who would want to buy a Sheeran or Martin X series with these around? Customers would LAUGH at those options after trying one of these. So if they cant supply them - sales are damaged. So they dropped them... Good old Andertons. Thats why I love the using the hashtag.... #notinandertons because you will rarely find any guitar I sell in Andertons because they need the volume products. Guitars that are easy to sell and made in big numbers.

Richards Guitars That is so kind of you. I just enjoy your low key yet enthusiastic presentation and your heartfelt commitment to providing quality products that don't break the bank. The closest local small business music store to me is going start selling Teton Guitars. I didn't get excited as I never heard of them, but they have some good reviews so I will try them out. You have several that I don't know of either but you have convinced me to look at new builders.

The Sound in this video is really poor probably because of mic. So the sound of guitars is distorted. The real quality of these guitars is visible from Andertones video named "Acoustic Paradiso - Hand-built Dowina Guitars". Even though the Dowina later disappeared from Andertones portfolio (some of the big guitar makers brought them to do so).

I paid £450 sans VAT for a 7/8s full size Taylor Big Baby and it's been half decent to be fair, although not standing up well (in condition) to travelling outside the house which is supposed to be it's raison d'etre. Definitely liking these at the price. Can you tell us a little about the nut, bridge and tuners next time please... appreciate your fetish is the wood, build and tone but its nice to get the full picture - one good point about the Taylor is that these have been flawless even with fairly heavy 2 hour pub gigging. These are like super high end small workshop guitars that command silly money lol. Where on earth does he source the wood(can’t stop laughing) all the tops have bear claw markings and those Purple ones and many others remind me of those high end Fylde guitars who to his credit hates some of the silly money some luthiers are charging for less quality than these. Not sure how you can top these Richard? Need more videos on the Granadillo and purple babies lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the lower priced ones are NOT made in Europe. Made in Indonesia! The more expensive ones in fancy woods and gloss tops may be made in Czech Republic but those you are showing are definitely not. I own several Dowinas, bought the first about 5 years ago. They are great, truly incredible, but sorry, again have to tell you they are NOT made in Europe!
