- Oak is my favourite wood to work with. I managed to save some stained oak office furniture from the bonfire, and after sanding it down I found it was perfect for this carved blanket box chest.
The carving took a lot longer than I expected, but It was a lot of fun to do.

There aren't enough words to adequately describe this gentleman's skill, creativity, preciseness, patience, and attention to detail. His pieces are absolutely gorgeous.
The viewing community confides that these are, without doubt, some of the most satisfying uploads available. Good one again sir.
Thanks very much :)
My back hurts just watching him carve all this.
If you've ever wanted a visual for the definition of "craftsmanship", this is it.
As always, your commitment to detail and patience to carry through is both mind boggling and inspirational. Thank you!
Thanks very much :)

I couldn't have found the words bro so I'm just going to like and comment on ur comment. Jason is awesome to watch. The detail that goes into his pieces and the patience needed to carry this out is astonishing to me as a newbie. I get immense satisfaction from seeing ppl use their hands to build or carve something as special as a piece of art like this. Big up to this man. He ,simply put, is a master craftsman. Great comment my bro..

*All the best in the New Year 2023*
All the best to you :)
I went insane during the chisel work.
Anyone else hit the like button before video even started (I have to watch ads). New videos from Epic (heck yes it’s a like).
I'm a simple woman, I see new epic video, I click.
Dito That, of course with it being DIY I hammered that like button too
This is coming from a place of kindness, but I almost hate how easy you make this look. Absolutely stellar piece and your craftsmanship is just out of this world! I have been watching your channel for years and I really hope you have a few decades ahead of you because everything you do is just another masterpiece.
Thanks very much :)
Right! I think especially because he doesn’t use all kinds of fancy tools
@@jmsmom67 agreed. It's all just masterful technique, which is learnable. But it's that execution that pulls it all together.
I didn't know Stephen King had that level of carpentry, excellent job!
This guy has the patience of Job. That front panel must have taken forever and those square headed pegs were a lot of work too.
The sheer number of hours and patients you put into that carving is amazing! I am both humbled and in awe! Thank you so much for teaching and sharing with us!
Calling Dr. Jason! 🤪
If I were a blanket I would want to spend my life in that blanket box. Watching you work is like watching a good movie with all the surprise twists. You are amazing
Thanks Debbe :)
I will call you Mr. Gold Finger .LOL
Every time you touch some wood , it's gold that pop out of it .💥
you have raised the bar for everybody now
I am certain that you hear this all of the time. It is your patience as well as your attention to detail that just shows through in your craftsmanship. This is part of what the world is starting to lose. I can stack woodworkers by the dozen that are out there. You are a Craftsman in the true sense. What people may miss in your 30 min videos is the real time and dedication to your craft. You never rush. You never take shortcuts. For the most part, you use tools that even a basic woodworker has on hand. You use well selected used wood, which is of good quality in its heart, with clean grain and superb dryness. It is the culmination of all of these things that sets you apart. Your videos are inspiring if not a bit intimidating. Again it comes back to your patience. Thank you for always sharing your work with us.
Thanks very much for the wonderful comments :)
I love watching your projects! Every time I think you make something beautiful and intricate, you make a few more embellishments to it that elevates it even further. Also, as a fellow content creator I appreciate that you don’t speak, or show the complete process of the project, but rather you show how each step is done on one little section and then jump ahead to that step being done. Your work is done in a way that keeps my brain working on what and how you are doing something so that if I wanted to try it too, I feel like I can do it. 👍
Thanks for the comments :)
Who knew Stephen King had a master craftsman for a brother. All kidding aside, this is outstanding.
Thanks :)
Amazing!
I envy You for the amount of patience You have!
And all this without fancy high-tech tools or gadgets.
Sometimes, I simply can’t believe what you can do with an old piece of wood that someone else would throw away. That is stunning! Thank you❤️🤗🐝
Thanks Deborah :)
@@EpicUpCycling You’re welcome❤️🤗🐝
Shit that is a lot of work! I can't even imagine doing what You do Jason. Everything that You make is just beautiful!
Jason I can't wait for something new on Your channel and good luck in Your future projects!!!
Thanks Tony. More coming soon :)
@@EpicUpCycling I just hope that You are going to show us more because we love what You do!!!
Well done! A true Renaissance artist.
Thank goodness you went with an easy design. You should really add the hours it took to make your 'art' pieces.
Sensational. What precision woodworking, talent, design, and beauty! A piece to be proud of. For many years from now, it will bring pride to any family that keeps it.
Thanks very much :)
That one channel where you grab a beverage, close the door and take the time to enjoy watching a master at his craft! Bravo! 👏
All you need now is a castle to fill with your work.
Are you kidding me with this one! Beautiful! I don’t know how you even come up with the idea and then translate it to measurements
Wow. Woodworker, artist, the patience of a saint and the doggedness of the ant moving the rubber tree plant. Thanks so much for this. It's a beauty.
First, there is no way I could have kept all those lines straight in my head, secondly thanks for another great video and last hope you and family had a wonderful holiday.
He walks on screen and I'm like, "Oh! This guy! No wonder the thumbnail was so super human looking. You, sir, are an incredible craftsman/artist/rescuer of things that deserve to be salvaged. Also, I notice I hit like but when I come back my thumbs up is removed. Devious, CZcams! STOP! Also, I must inquire how long this actually took.
Jeez! Mate, that job is beyond anything a mere mortal would attempt, the patience alone needed is beyond belief!
You know I was thinking to myself as you were making those pins “Are they going to be structural or decorative?” Turns out they were both. As usual, your work is amazing. Just the patience alone to do all that carving is impressive.
Thanks very much :)
This is the most AWESOME BLANKET CHEST i have ever seen absolutely BEAUTIFUL xx
Thanks very much :)
This is absolutely beautiful! Anyone would love to have this to store their blankets, quilts, and afghans.
Every once, in a while, a star falls from the heavens for the whole world to see. You, sir are that star.😮
I just finished a grueling week at work getting ready for, and completing, inventory. Now for some "me" time. With an empty house, I grab a coffee, throw a few sticks in the fire, settle in on the couch with my blankie and start your video to see what masterpiece you're creating. You never disappoint, another beautiful piece completed. It brings me such joy to sit and watch it all come together. I can only imagine how you must feel! Thank you from all of us in CZcams Land for sharing such wonderful content; again, your channel is a joy to watch. 😄
Thanks very much :)
My mouth dropped open when I realized where you were going with this. Absolutely astounding! I don’t know where you get your patience. Mine would have stopped with drawing all the lines at the beginning. Amazing work, thanks for sharing with us!
what i like best about your work is you never force the wood you work with it and respect it
Holy crap, you are blowing my mind right now! I have watched at least 10 of your videos (they are all amazing) but the hand carving you did after drawing all those pencil lines !?!?! And now making these black-topped dowels round just from carving them all by hand?!?!?! And I am only about half way through the video. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Уважение Мастеру. Красиво и точно, говорю как ювелир с 40-ка летним стажем. Очень здорово.
While all your projects fall in the 'Epic' category, this is in the OMG category! The combination of art and geometry you use to get the carved panel is mind blowing! I shall remain eternally grateful to you for teaching me this technique.
Sooner or later everybody praises a video like "it is the most amazing, impressing, etc." thing I've ever seen on yt". And now it's my turn. Extraordinary. Thanks for this epic upcycling :)
Thanks :)
This man has the patience and precision of an old Tibetan monk! 😎
Your creations are amazing! Ive come to the conclusion your brain is wired differently from most people. The way you carry out your designs with no drawings in front of you is just mind blowing. Im hoping we see more of you in 2023! 👏👍😁
This was amazing sir! You have the patience of Job. I've been sitting with my mother-in-law in the hospital for the past 2 days and I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed this project. It truly was the bright spot of my day.
Seems a soft oak. Can't imagine english oak would have carved so nicely. Damn fine work.
The pierced detail is spot on. Now I know how it is accomplished.
If I saw a chest with such a wonderful design pattern, I would have asked myself: How did the craftsman do this? Now I know how, and I must commit: it`s a very sophisticated work. Congratulations, Mr. Epic!
Thanks very much :)
There's no end to your patience and craftsmanship. You're a true artist.
Thanks :)
You've got a thumbs up just after you cut the first piece. I know it's going to be stunning. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I wish I could come to your workshop and just absorb everything you could teach me about craftsmanship.
Oooo! It would be such an honor to have such a carefully created piece such as that in one's home. Job well done!
A piece that will be passed down through generations, I'm sure. Amazing work, as always!
Thanks :)
I tune in to watch a chest being built, and instead watch a work of art being created.
And again i'm absolutely blown away. Simply speechless.
I feel like I’ve spent a week at a resort after watching you. Amazing patients and attention to detail is phenomenal
Thanks :)
Just unbelievable, exemplary skill.
I do believe that you can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. You are simply amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Assign yourself an hour rate that is befitting your craftmanship. Multiply that with the number of hours you put in to make this chest and realize you made a priceless piece of furniture!
Wow, such a stunning piece. I hope it went to someone special who’ll pass it along to the next generation with love. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much :)
I can't believe the amount of work that has gone into this project. It is truly stunning.
As soon as I saw the penciled grid lines I had to ask myself, "Surely he's not going to use a chisel on all the lines?" Epic masterclass in patience!
The trick is getting hold of recycled furniture that isn't veneered blockboard, woodchip or MDF! Ah well still good for jigs etc. 👍
Никогда не угадаешь, чем занят Мастер. Но, всегда знаешь что, Мастер чем-то занят. 👏👏👏👍 Thanks Master!
The meticulous carving just blows me away every time. Beautiful work.
Now that is a thing of beauty! Thank you so much for showing us the journey from humble beginnings to heirloom piece.
The intrigue persists until the last minute! As always great! Bravo to the Master!😍👍
The work of an absolute mad genius. The amount of patience and commitment to the process is unparalleled. Amazing work 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks :)
That detail and dedication is out of this world!! Hats off to you sir!!
Thanks very much :)
First... Great work, really great! Second... Can someone please buy this man a miter saw?!?! Or at least a miter fence for his table saw?
Once again absolutely stunning, if only I had the patience.
I get excited when I see you’ve uploaded a new video because I know it’s going to be EPIC. I’ve said this before you sir are a master in the woodworking art. I can’t wait till the next video
Thanks :)
I was watching this on my Apple TV and I do not have access to comments on that device. I got on my computer specifically to leave this comment to say MY GOD THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. I teared up just looking at your art let alone watching you make it. You are a true inspiration.
Thanks very much, Alex, And thanks also for going to the extra trouble to leave me a comment. Very much appreciated :)
First I thought it would be some machining video but no, it is the ultimate craftsmanship.
This deserves a million views!👏🎬👏
The patience that carving must have required was impressive. Beautiful work, as per usual!
Thanks very much :)
You are the ultimate recycler! I love the carving on this piece and that little iron corner clamp just stole my heart. If you're really going to put blankets/sweaters in there, might want a bit of window screening on the inside of the carved front to keep the moths at bay.
Incredible! My favorite woodworker on CZcams.
It's almost rude to show people how skilled you are.
Jason, That chest is amazing! You are a true master woodworker!
Thanks very much :)
The detail in this piece must have been so time consuming but so well worth it when viewing the finished masterpiece. A master at his craft again. Thanks for letting us mere mortals watch.
Thanks very much, Ian :)
Mind blown! It is eternally reassuring to know such skills are alive and well! Thank you so much for sharing your genius.
Omg...that blanket design was a nice touch. Enuff to make any woman wana stick around. 🙏
I'm only 8 minutes in to the video, but holy heck the amount of time this must have cost. So much respect for the work you put in to all your projects!
Brilliant and meticulous artistry and craftsmanship. This was a joy to watch! ❤
You must have the patience of a saint! Amazing work!
Thanks :)
the most beautiful work i have seen in awhile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cripes! Just when I think the man can't outdo himself, THIS comes along... stunning! Your use of old-school tools and techniques is truly inspiring, as well. I salute you!
Thanks :)
i have followed you since years now, have seen all your videos. your craftmanship has been praised in all comments i can only join all of them, couldn’t agree more. but the fact that you react to all comments (1000+ so far) with a “thank you” or hitting like shows humbleness not only in what you do (OMG how much time you spent with that carving?....), but how you act as a human.❤
Originality, skill and cleverness, i.e. genius.
The Wizard has uploaded a new video! 🤓
Just wow! We always say this but I really do think might be your best piece. The design, and the design of the plan for that hand carving was off the chart. Patience of a Saint, I was expecting one of your "look at the camera and sigh" moments half way through it hahah
I had a few moments like that off camera :)
What beautiful work. Watching the chest design take shape was intriguing. I usually just fold my blankets into a big green garbage bag and put them in the attic. I have to completely rethink my game plan now. Thanks for a great video.
You are from a different wood working planet. Un believable skills
Each time you make beautiful quality furniture.
All the best for 2023
Thanks :)
This is absolutely stunning - unbelievable - your devotion to your work - the final result .. RESPECT !!!
Thanks very much :)
With each project, you set the bar higher. Amazing work!
Thanks :)
I wish I could like this video more than once.
awesome piece of work
the wait was worth it, you had no reason to apologize 😁
to a healthy 2023
