Good tips... and my new-used turbo went to the trash bin with a bang. I am happy that I did not put the-newold one into the car getting problems the day after. Thumbs up!
After watching this I feel like I need a new turbo. I cannot believe my little Borg and Warner k03 has been pushing 20lbs for as long as it has. That castrol edge euro 0w40 must be some good shit.
Hi Tim, you mentioned no in and out inner shaft play and only minimal side to side play. Would it be a simple rebuild for my turbo or a very tricky one? I have the Turbocharger 49135-05671 bmw320d. Been doing a annual service and general checks, so noticed a bit of oil in inlet and an inner shaft play. after changing oil breather and engine oil the little oil patch disappeared, but I'm concerned about that little inner play. Please comment if you have some time to spair
Hey, old vid, i know, but i have a question that im hoping i can get a straight awnser for. In short: Bought a turbo, gt2554r and it was bought from someone i really trust. The turbo has axial play and has had that since it was new. The previous owner wrote to garret when he got it and got the answer that its completely normal, but is it tho? Since then the turbo has been used for about 3000 km (not much at all) and visually the blades and all lookes like its new. (Ive seen the email from garret, and its strange they would call axial play normal...)
What kind of advice can you give on a volvo 13 liter geo turbo that has bearing bad and need shaft and turbine shaft ,I dont see where you can buy the shaft assy. something went through the turbo when the valve failure happen. these are very expensive to buy as rebuilds.
I’ve got a bandit 1200 motorcycle with a t20 chinese turbo I’ve put 26 pistons in the motor already the turbo is ok but starting to smoke ! I gotta figure out how to rebuild it. Well I really need to figure out how to get the parts
I bought a used turbo but it’s hard to turn the wheel. When I took the exhaust housing off it was even harder to turn the wheel. But when I put it back on, I could turn it again. It’s a gt2260v . Any ideas?
When you put in the new turbine shaft, the Piston ring is probably loading up. Do a test and pull the ring off the turbine end and see if it spins after that.
There are some pretty bad copies out. And price has noting to do with it. Obviously the $250 dollar ones are pretty bad. OEM or a quality rebuild is usually the best way to go. But, some copies are ok. No way of really knowing.
Where does everyone go to buy core cartridges and rebuild kits in the U. S.? I have a Borg Warner part# 28231 2B700/serial #13 322 061 CN/BW # 5303 970 0306
Hi I was wondering if a bad turbo or bad diverter valve would cause the noise on the video attached to this..it's not my video another fellow CZcamsr posted it but it's exact noise I have on cold starts and wile driving sounds like loud jet sucking noise or open valve after 30 seconds of cold start you can hear a turbine wine at the end but it also does this sucking noise wile driving any advise would be greatly appreciated. Here's the link thank you czcams.com/video/wJUQgUa7t2E/video.html Ps. Also it's a 2011 bmw 535i N55 engine my car recently had a engine rebuild and did not do this noise before rebuild
This video just won't load. Nothing wrong with my connection, I've tried multiple times and come back after watching other vids. Shame i was looking forward to it.

Not true at all. Both are great. But turbos will last longer with the proper conditions. For example big rig trucks will run many many many mi with out a rebuild.
I think that depends on the application. On the drag strip: a supercharger would be better because the turbo lag would cost you races. On the street: a turbo is better because they tend to be much more fuel efficient.
Hi Tim Am from Roumania and just taken down today the turbo of a Renault . The car had no power in 5-th and 6-th gear , that's why I started to search what's wrong . Until now have observed there are masive leaks of oil on motor , at intercooler inlet and outlet . Oil droping from the oil reservoir ( I guess gasket is not ok ) . EGR was clogged . If you are so kind to take a look over how the turbo looks .... maybe you find something wrong . I suspect the actuator was not working as it looks rusty as you can see in this video : czcams.com/video/89-r3BFGMJg/video.html . Many thanks .
Very detailed explanation video . Thank you for all the great information!!!

Gamers nexus for turbos!
Great video. Can you tell me or explain rather how a turbo sucks the oil out of the engine, what parts break down and why. Many thanks

Tim do you sell ready to install CHRA cartridges for a KKK K03 out of a 96 passat TDI?
I got a 2014 Mini Cooper S with a N18 engine and a stock turbo , I’ll love to upgrade the turbo for a one more powerful one. And advance thanks

Yes, thats the carbon burnt oil built up under the heatshield. Need to be cleaned out ( rebuilt)
97 cummings ,12 valve, is it really worth spending more money on turbo ,instead of stock copy, type

Hey you want to rebuild 2 of my turbo for my 6.0 power stroke
Sure call the shop
Lol I just took my turbo apart and the inside of the chra is all chewed up. Guess I'll throw it in the trash
