    Well this has been a journey. After having the c-thing that I can't write here I couldn't talk normally for almost a week. This tutorial was the first thing I recorded once I got my voice back so my apologies if my voice sounds even lower than usual. I'm always beyond anxious when releasing new products on my Gumroad page. Despite using this set for years I ended up fixing and fine-tuning them until this month.
    Part of me always wants to give up on these projects because putting literally anything on sale comes with about a billion small and big tasks to complete. However, I do have one trick that I have used ever since I started working for myself. I always buy Vivi new treats and more importantly a fancy new dog toy after a new product release. When I inevitably hit that slump where I feel like I really just can't do it. It's easy to motivate myself by telling me that all this work will earn Vivi (my corgi) a new toy in the end. I even remember every toy up to this point: Rat (brushes for painters), Piggy (Skygarden Academy complete break down), Fox (watercolours for bears). I remember one dark moment when I was in a supermarket holding the piggy to motivate myself to finish that process video 😂 I'm sure I looked like someone having a mental breakdown at that moment.
    I don't know why I'm writing this. I guess I want people to understand that there's a lot more to releasing digital products than just swiping a few files into a folder.
    I'm excited to see what people will create with these tools. Or even with the information in this video.
    The purpose of both is to unlock new doors for your creativity and I hope you do that with courage. 🐻

      Big thanks to the members of this channel for being so supportive while I was sick. I was a bit worried about doing a silent live stream back when I couldn't talk but it turned out to be one of my favourite sessions in a long while. It was probably because at that point I had been home in quarantine for so long that it was just super nice to chat with you guys again. Looking forward to doing more livestreams again for everyone and for members now that I can. They also allow me to spend a bit more time on painting so I hope to see you in one of those sessions soon =)

And I definitely appreciate learning about Vivi. That's probably one of the sweetest things I've heard related to launching a product. Thank you, Mikko! Rewarding someone ELSE when you finish something is a fantastic way to motivate yourself!
      I would try the “reward yourself” for finishing a project or task. If the process got bogged down because of nerves or perfectionism, I’d find I didn’t want that thing any more.
      But something fun or memorable for my cats and dogs? I’m there!

      Awesome. Happy to hear that :) in illustrations such as this one it really does speed up multiple situations where I need a circle shape of any kind. Slapping it down with a brush takes 3rd of the time it would take to go make a proper quick shape.

  • @garymcderp1146
    @garymcderp1146 Před 2 lety +1

    You can also create perfect versions of circles or squares by tapping and holding your finger on the screen while having your quick shape activated (by holding the Apple Pencil on the screen). This is an alternative to going into Edit Shape afterwards.

    Thanks a lot for the detailed explanations! This video has so many tips that work regardless of the brushes, which is awesome. I bought your set as a thanks and because with your tutorial I finally know how to use the individual ones.
    So many pro artists forget that beginners (like me) do not have that ingrained knowledge yet how brushes work/how to achieve effects regardless of the brushes.
    There are way too many pros telling people that all they need is a round brush, yet that requires hundreds if not thousands of practice hours then to achieve certain effects. Simply not realistic for those of us that only want to create art for the fun of it - with no professional aspirations.
    And then others create their premium brush sets that look great in the pictures but provide 0 explanations how to use them. I’ve bought some that even after hours of lines and doodles I still cannot fully utilize.
    Thanks for showing a different, better approach!
    And also kudos for showing your hand trembling. It’s truly inspiring how you adapted your methods and create such stunning artwork regardless!

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  Před 2 lety +1

      I have made tons of tutorials on how to utilize brush strokes in painting and as much as anyone might hate to hear this. Round brush is pretty great for those exercises.
      With any brush set I’m making I usually start with a relatively big number and then I narrow it down to things that serve different purposes and don’t add unnecessary bloat into the toolset. I’d hate to be the reason why someone is spending more time changing brushes and not less. When I made Brushes for Painters I started with 30 brushes that in the end I managed to condense into 10 brushes in the final release. Some features were possible to merge into a single brush and as I was making tons of paintings with them I kept in mind that each one should be enough to do a whole painting without switching a brush even once.
      Different styles have different needs though. I felt like this set needed a guide for my process so that the purpose of each tool would be easy to understand.
      I hope you enjoy the set and that it can inspire you to spend more time with your creativity 🐻💕

      I’m really happy to hear that. When putting together a set like this there’s something about sharing it with others that really pushes me to iron out the small issues that I might be able to live with on my own. With this one I learned a lot of new stuff about the brush order and naming that I think makes the set easier to use for someone who is new to using these techniques.

I’m trying to learn art in Procreate because I can stabilize my brush. What I need to learn is brush size and canvas size, how zooming in and out affects realistic brush stroke. Your art is so beautiful and you explained it so well for beginners! I recently started using Procreate to draw characters, but I've always wanted to do something like this. Thanks to you, I finally know how to use that warp tool in other ways and now I know what to do with the textures I downloaded. I didn't think about putting it at the end :O Is there a way though, to draw on top of the texture without the texture disappearing beneath the other layers?

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  Před rokem +1

      If you want the texture to be on everything simply have it as the top layer. You can keep working on the artwork itself on the layers underneath the texture. If you don’t want it to affect the colour picks you can just turn the visibility off and turn it back on when you’re done. Not sure if I understood the question properly but I hope that helps. And thank you for visiting my channel :)

      @@angrymikko Thank you for responding! :D I was trying to figure out this video I saw of someone coloring in a line art but the paper or the base is already textured. They didn't add the texture at the end. It's as if they're drawing on a textured canvas. I tried to make the textured canvas, but then it just disappeared beneath the layers. I guess my question should be, is a textured canvas possible? Or could the person have been drawing underneath a textured layer?

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  Před 2 lety +3

      The most expensive part of making videos is storing the materials during the edit. It’s not really the 4k that takes space but to get the colours closer to being right it’s all 10bit 4k which usually takes 1,5 teras per video. This one was a bit under 1T due to the process happening in 2 days. Some 7day procets though need to be sped up midway through otherwise I wouldn’t be able to keep them.

      The maximum resolution your files are capable of are restricted by the model of ipad you have. For example the regular ipad is less powerful than the ipad pro, and a newer ipad pro with better specs is more powerful than older models of ipad pro.

    Hey there Mikko! I don’t know if you’re still active in comments on this video considering it’s age, but I wonder what your experience has been with color banding and how you handle it. I see you using then Gaussian blur for the blue spatter at the bottom. I’ve found once opacities start getting low, color banding can present a real problem. I’d love to hear from you on this if possible! Thanks so much for your content.

      I follow a lot of artists who make content, and I can’t say I’ve seen them address color banding in their digital work, and how they resolve it or what workarounds they use. Color banding can really be the bane of a digital artist’s process. I’m sure many of us would be grateful for that kind of video, given the current scarcity. Appreciate the response to my comment!
