This video is like 1 part tripod tips, 2 parts eye opening cinematic advice.
This masterpiece is not about a tripod, for sure! U always show up to us a different perspective about video making in such a great way, that is like a masterclass.
Glad you enjoyed it!
These tips are so helpful! Thank you so much!
I like the detailed explanations and kind dialogue. I look forward to the future.
The monopod NEVER occurred to me….thanks Shua 🙏🏾💯
I resonate a lot with what you said about static shots. I’ve been trying to film slow footage more to slow down the pace of my videos.
Thank you for sharing this. I especially appreciate you talking about slowing down, keeping the scene. Very thought provoking.
I been getting into film more man, you helping out a lot. thank you
fantastic video and tips! thank you good sir!!
I love using all of those simple tripod variations on shoots. I'll generally take my light weight tripod over a gimble or other rig any day. There's something so quick and pure about only having to rely on one piece of equipment. Good stuff you got here.
Discovered your channel through this video and am loving your content! Looking forward to watching you grow!
Thanks for the quality of this video ! i really enjoyed it. You got a new subscriber :)
This was awesome! Definitely going to use these techniques :)
Honestly you just opened up my mind to a lot of things
thank you so much !
sick video, great storytelling for a tripod video
Was familiar with most, but the shoulder rig is genius! Gained a new subscriber
I really think you did well on this video. It was... UNIQUE!
GENIUS!!!
Monopod shot is out of the box really ❤❤❤...I was planning to buy monopod but thanks for saving my money
This is awesome.
I especially like the part about the Static shots.
I LOVVE seeing beautiful shots of my city on CZcams. Thanks for representing Chicago in such cool ways!
More to come!
Underrated channel
Cool video! Thanks for the tips. I have the same NYC Mac Background :D It's dope!
Many of my video friends all have a specialization. One is an amazing director/dp, another is great with gimbal work, another with his car rig, etc. I felt I wasn't really good at anything, until I saw this video. You mentioned being a grip, it really peaked my interest. I love solving problems with rigging things and a grip might be my cup of tea. Thanks Shua!
I love how the shoulder mount technique makes it look l like my first 80s camcorder.
I just recently got some Neewer tripod wheels. It is a skate that connects to the three legs and it can be used as a slider like you had here or it actually can help stabilize the legs as now they have a sturdy base.I think it will also be great for micro movements where you want to move the tripod a small fraction, but not have to lift it and move it and accidently miss that spot.
NEW TO THE CHANNEL BUT NOT NEW TO CZcams THANX FOR THE VIDEO
Love the hometown views
I love ur videos ❤ thank unso much!
I'm so glad!
Beautiful images of Chicago, btw.
Thanks for this one 😄 Greetz from belgium
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 loved this. Thanks broski
Glad you enjoyed!
Love the locked off camera sequence. Beautiful 😍
Appreciate ya!!!
Amazing video. It’s like my thoughts coming out of your head. Great visuals and storytelling too. Subscribed forever.
Welcome aboard!
Appreciate this! Subscribed! 👏
Subbed back!!
Thank you, greetings from Leipzig!
Very interesting and great tips. I must do the Snorri Cam shot, that could be loads of fun and very different from my normal types of shooting,
Hey Shua! This is definitely helpful! As a starting film maker this inspires me to make more.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm mainly a stills photographer. But now of course I have to incorporate motion into my jobs. Years ago, I started working with my friend who was a film cameraman. We did a few jobs together and one day he said "you know, you are still working like a still shooter" meaning I loved to be on a tripod. I completely understood what he meant but still love using the tripod. Some of my favorite films are done mainly with static tripod work. I see the benefit and use of handheld and am pretty envious of those who make fantastic films with the handheld energy but the weight--figuratively not literally-- a tripod gives to a scene/clip is pretty amazing. When I first started shooting years ago (with film / RZ67 and Pentax67) I really tried to go more handheld with these cameras and it did help my overall work--I used to hire photographers for magazine shoots when I was a director of photography and still can visualize the photos of some of the people I hired that had a beautiful, movement to their shots. One guy we sent to Iran and in my minds' eye I can still see a few of his images and he never used a tripod. Thanks for this post / brain food...
like your grading...obviously wes anderson style
Excuse me sir. I think CZcams has made an error as I was watching this video. For some reason it says you have 14.2k subscribers. With genuinely good advice, great delivery, and storytelling all mixed into this amazing production, there's no way this channel isn't already at 100k+
(in all seriousness, this is a really great video! You wouldn't even think it was 8 mins long, and yet I feel like my perspective has been broadened so much)
Wow, thanks this really means a lot 😀🙏
All these cool tricks and apparent knowledge but he still hand-holds a Lav mic? 🤦🏻♂️
@@TheGeriatricMillennial-80 Does the audio sound good? Yes. So does it matter???
Love this. There are tons of videos talking about composition, but I needed something more technical, to keep one part of me down-to-earth and oriented. Perfect video, very complete and I didn't even feel tha 8:22 mintes passed 🎉
Glad it was helpful! 😁
This was so helpful, thank you so much, I love your storytellling, the color grading you have in this video, most important I like how you mentioned tips of both youtube and traditional media
You're so welcome! I happy to support other creators 😁
the slider one is life changing lol might as well work with a skateboard if you have one
Saw some one use a rolling suitcase. I swear I’m not this creative with “Jerry rigging” lol
Nice video! Loved it
Glad you enjoyed it!
7:03 I love this tip so much. It’s a great reminder that you can sometimes just let a scene breathe. I feel like it might be a great way to reset/set the pace. Awesome reminder. Subscribe.
woo!!! Thanks for subbing 🙏🏽
Looking forward to more videos like this 🎉
More to come!
Woah! Just came across your channel. The way you present and your shots are impactful!
Thanks a ton!
Good information.
Glad it was helpful!
I watched you video and liked it - I thought there was going to be more on tripod different uses. Still picked up one, "monopod," cool! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching and I will keep that in mind for the next gear video!
Yes! Van Is the F*CkinG man! I’m a perfectionist and his videos hit home with me!
Love this video!
Just when I thought I knew everything smh... THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION
I'm a huge Van Neistat fan myself!
I want to figure out how you walked a with the camera on your shoulder in that trucking shot.
How do you not have wayyyy more subs
Well here’s one more for you Brodie!
Wow thanks for watching and subscribing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
…but GRIP’s don’t grip their little wireless mic’s on camera!
Haha. Guess he's literally "Gripping" it lol.
The Jarry rig setups are the best hahaha I've always been wondering how to get a sliding shot without a slider and a skateboard hahaha
highly recommend taping a tripod to the skateboard lol
on the slider, you could also use a skateboard and it will look better
Ooooo good idea!!
That first pivoting pan is magic..... tHanks for great ideas! What are you working on next?
No spoilers but somethings bigger than just one filmmaker in one city hehe
sick video glad i find your channel when you had no view no sucribers and still belive in you
WOW that means so much thank you!!!
Waaait a min. That's my city Chicago let's go grab some portillos and film
😎😎😎
the second you dropped only one leg to make it a monopod I lost it like wow
i love your color can you teach us how you do it ? please
Slowly working on that!! Glad to see interest in some lessons!
Have seen some of shots under hard sun light , did u used ND if yes which one 😊

What is the song at 3:01 ? So beautiful!
As I dream by Johannes Bornlöf
Can you do a bts of "the art of slow living"?
Like a breakdown type of video?
I like how you described other video specifically for CZcamsr wannabe who doesn't know anything about video techniques. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Greetings from Sydney. Love your work as always… except when you become one of those CZcamsrs who starts holding a small Rode/Deity/DJI/Hollyland wireless mic whilst narrating! It is not cool,or professional, or even great sound, it is just plain distracting and takes away from what you are trying to share.
Maybe your next/forthcoming video could be a tutorial on mic (or lavalier) placement, or just go back to hiding a shotgun mic off-camera, or going back to quasi-podcaster style (even though it is a video, not an audio podcast) with your big Shure SM7B somewhat annoyingly in shot.
Sorry to be picky Shua, but the mic in shot took away more than it added to your usually exemplary videos.👍🎤🎥🎬
Agreed ❤
p.s. I am not alone czcams.com/video/Anvh4qUxTA4/video.htmlsi=6UG6Ti6q-GwWArIe
May I ask why you think footage of him holding a mic talking unprofessional and don’t produce great sound? Is it because it’s different from his previous videos or something else?
@@chauswriting thanks for your question. I think this video explains it perfectly czcams.com/video/Anvh4qUxTA4/video.htmlsi=MsE5CM51uH14mITD

jerry riggin ... is kinda racist my man lol
During the past few months, I ´ve watched several of your videos. I kindda like them, but at the end, I have felt, "let down" . Like this one. It started with a cool hook-intro. At 0:15 you presented the "point" of the video, - using the tripod -- Great. Then 2:48 of "promised content....and then..... Almost 6 minutes of ... What? Nothing related to your title. Yes, the static shots are cool, and important and all that, BUT It should have been a different video. Another suggestion. Your energy and vibe are very positive and friendly. Maybe you could talk your model into it. She looked annoyed to be helping you. Ciao.
