Exploring The Feathered Frontier.
This bird is absolutely gorgeous! I can’t believe this is my first time hearing of them.
In Australia we have wompoo pidgeons... they're coloured like parrots..
Precisely my thought! I'd seen a video about the dodo saying that there was a living relative that was brightly colored, but I had no idea it was THAT brightly colored!
Maybe cuz it's fake like the mandarin duck 😅
you should see victoria crowned pigeons
@@GrubbySalad I can ONLY HOPE that you're kidding. . . . .
Can you talk about the hummingbird hawk-moth, Macroglossum stellatarum? They come to my balcony to feed on the flowers and I find them sooo interesting! Would be awesome if more people learned about them
Yes, they're so cute. In German they're called "little pigeon tail" (Taubenschwänzchen). When I saw one for the first time I thought it was a hummingbird that somehow got to Germany, but the lack of a beak gave it away.
Ugh. That thing's fucking terrifying.
I had seen them in videos and pictures for decades and finally spotted two of them in the wild for the first time last fall. I totally agree they would be a great subject to profile 🙂👍
@@piyo744 Are you thinking of the hawk wasp instead of hawk moth? There’s nothing terrifying about a hawk moth imo.
They’re so amazing! I’m from Scotland and when I went to Madrid on my gap year, seeing one was the shock of my life.
I was freaking out running through the field back to the river screaming “THERE ARE HUMMINGBIRDS!! HOW?! THEY’RE FROM THE AMERICAS!”
And my friends were laughing at me when I showed it. “Mi querida mariposa, es una polilla”. “My butterfly, it’s a moth”.
(Mariposa is Spanish word for gay but we were friends and I didn’t mind them saying it cause I thought it was cute, since it meant butterfly).
When ever the Columbidae have family reunions, the Nicobar Pigeon always shows up looking fabulous.
Victoria crowned pigeon: finally, a worthy opponent
It's me, I'm a nicobar pigeon.
I would be jealous if I was regular pigeon haha
@@aranyaiyer5994 Don't be, you are faster flyer with more stamina.
He's the one uncle "little pidge" is never supposed to talk to lest he corrupt them to the devil^^
I actually have a soft spot for pigeons. And this species is gorgeous 😍
The white tail almost serves like a contrasting accent against their beautiful feathers.
Love that description!
Me too.
Can you own this species?
@@damianhernandez2479 considering their conservation status, no. It would also be pretty cruel to take them so far from their homes (which would usually be in forests) for no reason
@@damianhernandez2479 8:02
Should talk about common species that are often overlooked and show cool they are.
For example, rock pigeons are awesome!
And Hamerkops. She mentioned them with the shoebill stork- they are very interesting
Like bees. Did you know they conceive of time? And jet lag! Bees can experience jet lag.
@@brendan5260 That would be “sweet.” Actually, bees are really interesting.
What do you call a child custody dispute among pigeons?
A squabble.
I just found out about this pigeon this morning, now I get to watch an informative video on them. Thanks!
I love pigeons, especially rock doves or feral pigeons or flying rats. The ones at the park know me because they always greet me when I go there. I don't feed them all the time as feeding wild animals is a bad idea, but I do put out nesting materials and boxes for the birds there. Since I take lunch with me to the park the pigeons naturally linger around me, and over time, they seem to sit closer to me. I've even held them before! They're really smart and misunderstood.
Also does anyone know why so many of the feral pigeons I've befriended have missing toes? It's really unusual.
@@weevil8025 Generally speaking, disease and materials getting tangled around the pigeons toes eventually causing them to fall off.
@@weevil8025 Human hair tangles on them, slowly cuts off circulation, then the toe falls off.
If I had to describe a pigeon in 3 words: kind, sweet, silly
And always hungry!
I'd say bold, agile, odd :p
Interesting animals!
Here’s another: everywhere.
@@deadlydingus1138 since I love pigeons whenever I want a boost of happiness I just have to go outside for a bit and boom instant pigeons instant happiness
@@deadlydingus1138 I have always lived in rural neighborhoods so I don't think I've ever even seen a pigeon.
I'd love to see an actual video on the Rock Dove. They're so cute, and idk why people hate them. I know I see them alot, living in NY, but I adore how they mate for life. ♡
Everyday I feed a mixture of several types of seeds and dried fruit to an average of 26 feral pigeons, blue Jays, Black Capped Chickadees, a pair of Cardinals, and several types of squirrels. My flock of pigeons can vary from about a dozen to over 50! Oh, I get a pair of gray doves and a woodpecker too.
What a coincidence! I was thinking about this pigeon for about a few weeks now, and now you guys made a video about it? You guys truly are amazing!
You can't judt think of a specific species of animal on the fly. May you let me know what makes you think of thr bird in the first place?
@@fikrihaikal837 This person didn't say anything about the bird flying...
@@odette6761 "on the fly" is not literally flying bruh
@@fikrihaikal837 Nvm, I realized I read your comment wrong lmao
Sorry for the inconvenience
@@fikrihaikal837 maybe because she knows about them?
I like pigeons in general, they are always observing me, they are smarter than they seem to be and they can be really friendly if people don't scare them away.
April fools day falling on a Friday this year has the unexpected effect of meaning I’m stuck here trying to parse what’s a prank and what isn’t 😅. I was waiting so long for the joke to drop in this video before I realized it was a regular upload. Pretty Bird!
I think this is the most beautiful bird I have ever seen!
Can you PLEASE talk about the American Pika? This cute lagomorph(rabbit-relative) live on the top of the Rockies of the United States. They eat many leafy grasses and consumes flowers. This tiny rabbit like animal is super underrated, and if not the American Pika, how about the Chinchilla and their cousins Viscachas. Chinchillas and Viscachas are rabbit-like rodents and should definitely gain more recognition. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment.
I would love to learn more about chinchillas and their cousins.
Pika are so cute. They actually make hay to store for food.
Such a beautiful bird! 🥰 Their feathers look like a mane.
Pigeons are so adorable how can anyone hate them 😍
until they poop on your head and furniture lol
@@andyprem pigeons are tragic as hell tbh, they were domesticated by humanity and then just thrown away. ive heard their poop is like that because their diets are so poor from eating garbage
@@andyprem Also pigeon pants are a thing.
@@justsomegirlwithoutamustachegood luck putting bird diapers on all the feral pigeons out there
i had 2 cockatiels before and loved them no matter where they pooop and how often@@andyprem
What a gorgeous avian. Stunning!
This is completely unrelated, but I love and need Aranya's shirt. You don’t understand how much I want that shirt.
It's a great shirt! Was lucky enough to find it at a local thrift store. It's a men's t-shirt but honestly, if it's got birds on it, does it really matter? 😂
@@aranyaiyer5994 Oh, I meant the yellow shirt underneath it, but at least now I know where 1 of the shirts came from. 😂
@@Nikki0417 OHHH. That one, I don't quite remember. It was ages ago! But if I remember, I will let you know for sure.
No wonder the Dodo stuck to Mauritius. Those family gatherings must have made them very self-conscious.
That Pigeon unlocked the golden Skin you get when you reached pigeon level 5000.
Our greed overrides our intelligence. So many animals wouldn't be extinct if it wasn't for greed.
Well said
Pigeons don’t get enough love, people who think that they’re pests don’t realize that pigeons are actually domestic animals that’s why there are so many different colorful breeds that have been bred to look pretty/do a job, just like dogs. Rats and raccoons are wild animals that have adapted to city life (which doesn’t meant they don’t deserve love too) but pigeons are stray domestic animals just like cats and dogs. Some pigeons were even awarded medals of honor for serving in the military (look it up). Yeah dude carrier pigeons.
With that straight dark hair-like feathering around their heads, they kind of look like extra fabulous goths.
Yesss!
I love every living creature too much to hate them, I love pigeons! So prity with all the iridescent feathers.🥰
Even roaches and mosquitoes???
@@ironpulcinella3586 😐
@@denstination I mean they have a point xD.
I mourn for the the Dodo. Literally an animal we will never know but some of our ancestors briefly did. I wish there was a hope of at least bringing them back. I don't think that there is.
And they died out not even that long ago in human history.
Luckily, there is
Wow the Nicobar pigeon looks amazing!!!😁
It is so depressing knowing that every episode ends with the knowledge that we have ruined another species with all we take, take, take. We really don't deserve this earth.
We're getting better, though.
im 14 and this is deep

You can help by throwing yourself into an active volcano. One less human, right?
Humanity will be its own downfall
I thought the Victoria Crowned Pigeon was the largest extant pigeon in the world?
I don't think the Victoria crowned pigeon flies, though. That said, they are both gorgeous!
@@wormlunch I'm pretty sure the crowned pigeons can fly, but they do spend most of their time on the ground, much like a wild turkey. And all four of the crowned pigeon species are significantly larger than the Nicobar (off the top of my head, I think they range from about 4-7 lbs., with about 10 lbs. being possible for the largest Victoria crowned pigeons).
@@wormlunch It does fly, but why would that be relevant anyway?
@@rasmusn.e.m1064 I did not know that. Well, if the Victoria Crowned Pigeon was flightless, then "largest *flying* pigeon" might apply to the Nicobar. See? It would have been an honest mistake to drop the qualifier.
@@wormlunch Aaaah, ok. I guess that would kind of make sense because the prototypical "bird" for most people is flighted, so they don't really think flightless birds are "true birds". Would that be correct?
I just don't usually think about that because I have been a big animal nerd since childhood, so I always knew about penguins and dinosaurs and all that. It's the same thing when I hear people being in doubt as to whether whales and shellfish are true fish. It baffles me.
Though I guess whales are technically fish if you wanna be real cladistic about it.
I love rock pigeons, they've got a bit of iridescence to them too lol
We call them "Dundunay" From Tagalog to Waray to Tausug. They are mentioned to be one of the most beautiful bird in the archipelago in an 1854 book. I argue the trogon but I digress, Nicobar pigeon is very beautiful. They are just extirpated in moat large islands.
3:13 City Pigeons: Time for Beauty!? Some of us have to go to work.
I wonder how this pigeon would look flying in slow-mo
Shiny
i just assumed the "oooh Yeah....." soundclip would play everytime they do
I never heard of this beautiful bird. Thanks you guys for your hard work 😊
Beautiful structural colouration on its feathers.
Agreed!
6:16 As Tantor the elephant from Tarzan once said "and they (humans) call us (animals) uncivilized".
when a pigeon leaves the carribean
i'd imagine em to look like this nicobar pigeon
Been taking my 6 & 2 yr olds to see the progress of a pigeon clutch we saw grow from eggs to flight size. They were nested on a balcony by a mall in glendale ca lol
These are absolutely beautiful. I wish we had them here. I may have to put this on my bucket list. Just to see them! 💜☺✌
I hope paleologic will do extinct birds like dodos, moas, terror birds, or mesozoic avian dinosaurs
Amazing birds. There are over 300 species of pigeons/doves (yes, they are the same) and the ones people typically complain about are not even indigenous to North America. What they are is a karmic replacement for the Passenger Pigeon hunted into extinction.
This is one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. Great video, and very informative.
How did I not know that you all did a video on one of my fave birds? The more “exotic” and tropics-dwelling pigeons & doves are some of the most striking aves. Surprisingly most can even be raised in captivity, many times, including Nicobars. I had a neighbor in San Diego with an aviary, in her jungle of a backyard, and she had a few of them, plus other things like turtle doves, Victoria crowned pigeons, even turacos… Love the Nicobar feathers…
Had no idea such a beautifully colorful pigeon existed
Wow! Very good presentation. I've learned something new today. The Nicobar Pigeon is very interesting.
First time seeing this beauty! A true work of art!
From my school days, I considered Seagulls more as "rats with wings" than pigeons. Their droppings was everywhere.
I still gotta say city pidges need more love. Be a pigeon in a world full of parrots
Please talk about the bearded vulture next .
"Gypeatus barbatus" is my #1 favorite species of ANY vertebrate!
My younger brother calls this the rainbow pigeon
Accurate!
a local bird sanctuary near me has about 10-15 of these guys, they are super cool little guys, love their calls too, super interesting
Pigeon with a mullet, love it!
what an incredible bird, I'm in love! love the host too 😊
Such a beautiful bird.
would love a broad look at general small songbirds and the like. for a more informative view of the birds at my feeders. (live in the southern fingerlakes region of ny) but any would do. and also the bigger song birds that just seem to bully them. I love all over the animal logic content 👍
More pigeon vids! They really deserve more recognition.

They are gorgeous. Thank you for the awesome video
Hello dear how are you doing?
It seems the courting ritual of the male pigeons is exactly the same as that of the human males (6.48)
As a person who stayed in the Andaman and Nicobar islands for a few years, I'm happy to see the Nicobar Pigeon here 😀
Awesome video! I would love to see an episode on avocets or phalaropes.
I saw a tropical turtle Dove at the Zoo as beautiful in color as that Pigeon.

Beautiful thumbnail.
Can a Nicobar pigeon take down a coconut crab? If so, we need more!
This pigeon can be the best way along with perfect dodo bird DNA to bring back the extinct creature.

hi Aranya - really enjoy your presentation - jeez, that sounds so stuffy. you’ve got a great personality (and i love your clothes sense).
i’d love to know more about the Shoebill (they’re just adorable), the cassowary, and those flightless birds, the kākāpō in New Zealand. although i just looked it up to get the name right, and there are many flightless birds there, so maybe a whole review of all of them - very interesting. have a great day! 🦜🕊🦢🪶🦉🦅🦆🌷🌱
