Went through this video and picked it up yesterday instead of the newer 265. I prefer long battery life over a fancy screen, and the price doesn't differ by that much! Thank you.

Now that the 965 is out the 955 looks great at $399 or $499 w/solar. Wanted to come back to these reviews to see if it was really that good.

I really liked the 945 for weight and screen size as primary use-case of running. I bought the EPIX2, but I have to say the 945 is my all-time favourite. I wish the EPIX 2 had solar. Garmin manages to give me Goldilocks syndrome 😂. @DesFit you do have the best Garmin reviews.

Damn Garmin!!! I'm trying to quit you, but you're just so perfect. Just wished Coros, Suunto and Polar would put something out that can compete with all the features. I love the look of Suunto and Polar but those companies seem to keep missing the mark every time they release a new watch. Like Coros skipping on the ANT+ on their vertix 2 👎

Thanks for the excellent review Des. After trying out 2 Epix 2's and 2 Ultras I'm going back to a FR955, just dramatically better value. I am more and more put off by Garmin's seemingly random pricing scheme where here in Canada a basic Epix with 16gb, and no multimode GPS is $1169, a sapphire Epix is $1299 with 32gb and multimode, while a FR955 is $629 with Epix Sapphire specs (other than the screen obviously). Let's not even mention the MARQ at $2730 that's just an Epix with a few extra builtin software switches on the motherboard turned ON (and what's with the random $30???!!!). Anyway, great review as always. Cheers

Is there a reflective clarity difference from 955 to 955 solar. (without backlight)
Some of the side by sides with a non-solar looked a little washed out.
Is that possibly due to the camera angle or back light settings.??

Hi Desfit I have had my 955 a month now. I had my Galaxy Watch 4 classic 46 4g. I have been walking the past few weeks and the stats compared to the smart watch 4 are far different. The 955 is about 10 per cent lower than the galaxy. I did my first swim with the watch and it was amazing. It clocked in 269 kcals burn on 12 lengths (300 Meters). The lengths were not fully correct but I could edit the whole workout if I wanted. The galaxy does not have this feature, my stats on the galaxy were 444 and 20 in length.
So the Garmin clocked in at 12. I just need to do an indoor bike ride to get the final workout. I can not wait till I get a full 1 month of working out to get a full system breakdown. Your video is amazing. I just have one question about the steps to clarify count when not in active mode. I do 2000 to 3000 steps not on active mode and the calories are not counted, is there a way to track this In the Garmin app ?

I couldn't compare it by myself yet. But DC Rainmaker says in his review that the display and the solar layer between the glass and the display are identical to the F7 series. So, if you see differences in F7 series you should find them in FR955 too imho.

Des - Excellent and through review as always, thank you for all of your hard work! Is it fair to suggest that many of the newer training related features are software rather than hardware driven? • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 2 lety +3

Most of these features will be coming to the Fenix 7 and Epix, and some of them to the 945 LTE as well. Although a lot of it is software, these watches also have the 4th gen HR sensor which I’m sure has something to do with supporting the software. Thanks!

    • @DesFit

I have a similar dilemma. 3/4 of training is running, 1/4 is cycling. In winter, almost only running. I don't really need super accurate multi-band and 15h more in Fenix sounds good. On the other hand, 99% of us will not really feel any difference in the battery. My main concern is the battery in the cold. In my old FR 735, the battery normally lasts 10 hours of GPS, but in a light frost only 2-3 hours because I always have the watch on my jacket or bicycle handlebars. Which watch will perform better in light frost - F7 or FR 955? PS I would prefer a clearer font on the data screen because I have poor eyesight.

How does the HR compare to the F7 & 945 LTE? You mentioned it's the same hardware but different design, but does that design really make a difference?

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 2 lety +1

The sensors perform similarly, for the most part. However, with the Fenix 7 and 7X, that’s a heavier and larger watch which can lead to the watch bouncing around on your wrist which can throw off the sensor.

OK, a question for ya on the HR accuracy. I bought my 955 a few days ago and now I wear it all the time. One issue though, and I want to figure out if it's something I am or am not doing.
I got on zwift today and had my polar arm band on, and I didn't have my forerunner active for the exercise, but I do have HR on my watch face at all times. I got up to around 160 bpm on zwift, but when I looked at my watch to see how close it was, it read 111. Anyway, a couple interval sessions just to make sure, and my watch HR barely changed.
However, when I went into one of the exercise functions on the watch and started it, it was maybe five to 10 seconds and it jumped to match what it said on Zwift.
I did that a few times, and it's the same every time. Any thoughts?
An added note: My polar band is connected only to my trainer for zwift. I have yet to pair my watch to anything other than my phone at this point.

Why is there a 1 second lag when going to activity mode? e.g. I wear my watch as normal, when I click the start button there is a 1s lag. This was not present in the 945 LTE and is really frustrating.

More features go to the 955, so it all comes down to if you are OK with the 955 MIP display or wanting AMOLED on the 265.

    Hi from Greece...
I have the fenix 6x pro which is a unique watch in all its features, the only problem I see when I run is the gps accuracy, on the map it shows me running on the roofs of the houses and the route is not a straight line but a zig zag .... I'm thinking of buying the forerunner 955 new, only for the multi band GPS. or, garmin fenix 7 sapphire solar (used 3 months in the same price as the forerunner 955....550 euro )...
Has Garmin finally fixed this bug with the maps? this problem is very serious,
is the GPS accurate in this models ? or like 6x pro ?
... what's your opinion is it worth it? or should I stay with the 6x pro...buying the forerunner 955.... or the fenix 7 sapphire solar (used ???)
Thank you very much, I appreciate your opinion and I await your advice

I need a professional opinion from a reviewer before making my decision.
I’m an engineer in the Air Force, I’m outside all day and do some really messy dirty jobs.
I also constantly train on my time off and I feel like I’ve been missing out having never owned a fitness watch.
Durability wise I want a fenix 7 however I like the sleekness of the forerunner 955 and some of the things it has which the fenix does not.
Do you think I could get away with having a forerunner? Or will my job inevitably end up damaging it far more than if I were to go with a fenix?
Thank you for your time and response.

It would be great if someone can test that this doesn't happen anymore because the RD pod now has native power. Thank you

Do you have another CZcams account under "Aprendendo Astronomia"?
This is what I replied to with the other comment which was nearly the same on my Venu 2 Plus video:
"The 955 offers a lot more in terms of training and performance feedback vs the Venu 2 Plus. The Venu 2 Plus however offers more smartwatch-type features like the microphone and speaker as well as an AMOLED screen but doesn't come with those feedback features, it also has shorter battery life, and also doesn't come with maps like the 955. In regards to the training and performance feedback, I wouldn't classify those as features just for professionals - likely the opposite actually as it provides all us normal runners with information which can help us become faster or more efficient runners."
