  • A summary of Mesa's 2019 operations. Their fleet contains a small handful of 320 CNG Curbtenders, and is largely CNG Peterbilt Scorpions.
Mesa is one of the only major cities of the valley to modify its recycling program (except Surprise, who eliminated recycling). They aimed to "simplify" recycling by only accepted beverage bottles & cans, corrugated cardboard, and paper. This effectively eliminates #2 HDPE (color), glass jars (not bottles), paperboard, paper bags, and #1 and 2 plastic jars. The result seems to have largely resulted in confusion, frustration, and many giving up recycling altogether. In another unfortunate twist for Mesa Recycles, Republic's Salt River MRF (located in Mesa) burnt down only days after the program change. Republic's backup MRF, North Gateway, has been offline for major equipment upgrades. Last I heard, Republic reached an agreement with Waste Management to process recycling from Scottsdale, Mesa and Gilbert at their Surprise facility.

Man sucks to hear about all these places having to decrease or illuminate completely the recycling programs glad that the city is at least trying to recycle something down here they are just secretly tossing it out there’s talk about republic buying out the New Mexico Friedman facility as well what used to be such a Great profit to recycle is now become a waste of time being the owner of Recycling business it is definitely showing its affects but nice to see some Mesa truck love there scorpions

At least they still have their program in place. It might take a while for everyone to adjust. I bet people will just keep on throwing the old stuff they used to accept in there. Up here, republic asked the city of vegas for a rate increase to pay for the rising recycling cost. Wow one of their centers burned down, probably from something unrecyclable that was put in the stream.

might be one of the smarter choices among closing the program, going to split stream, collecting it separately but landfilling it, and simply making no change. is it a mf bottle, can, piece of paper, or brown box? then go ahead. but keep your damn bubble wrap, deodorant, and electronics out of the recycling you hopeless societal anchors

+1. Hopefully it works out for them in the near future. I keep an eye on their Facebook posts and I see a lot of "f--it, im throwing all plastic in there anyway they can figure it out" and "what do we pay you for", etc. Typical unreasonable disgruntledness.
