I have to agree that my favorite book this year is The Neverending Story by the Folio Society! Earlier this year I bought a beautiful The Original Bambi illustrated by Alenka Sottler-nice black and white illustrations which you can tell a lot of planning went into. I'm quite fond of it. Always love your vids! Gonna have to kid some of those kids books, my daughter will love them. I added the Folio Society’s Neverending Story to my library just a week or so ago. One of my favorite books with Marie-Alice Harrel’s illustrations was an absolute must have.
The music, sound and voice made me SUBBED! More books to hoard yay!

This year I have collected a few pretty kids books. Some came out in the last few years like: "Margaret's Unicorn" by Briony May Smith and "Ordinary, Extraordinary Jane Austen" by Deborah Hopkinson and Qin Leng. Both are gorgeous books. And some were published this year : "The Comet" by Joe Todd-Stanton and the gorgeous "Cat Family Christmas" by Lucy Brownridge and Eunyoung Seo. A advent book with really pretty illustrations and 140 flaps you can lift to see what's underneath.

Wow, it took me a couple of days to get through this whole video because I really wanted to pay attention, and I'm finally done! lol. It's amazing! Thank you so much for putting it together; I know it's a lot of work, and I very much appreciate it. Since I took my time looking through it, I already ordered and received one of the books, And Everything Will Be Glad to See you. I was interested in the collection for myself as I continue in my efforts to read more poetry, but I also thought I might want to gift a copy to my young nieces as part of their Christmas book gifts. It's so beautiful, and the project of it is so special. I absolutely love it! Thank you so much for recommending it! I will be getting another copy so that I'll have one to keep.
So many wonderful editions this year, some I knew about, many I didn't. I splurged on the standard, nevertheless stunning, copy of Visions of Beauty by Kinuko Y. Craft. She's one of my all-time favorite artists, and I don't imagine I'll ever be able to buy any of her original art, so I figured this was my chance to get a special piece of her beautiful work. I was able to get it as preorder it, so I got it at a good price, but considering the cost of even one high-quality art print, it's really quite worth the full-price. One of the series I've been collecting this year that I haven't seen you feature are these "British Library Hardback Classics" I came across. They all seem to be anthologies of short works by both well and less-well known authors and they all seem to be speculative horror or Gothic collections. I've found them both on the US Amazon page and at Book Depository. I've already acquired the collections by H. P. Lovecraft, M. R. James, and Margaret Oliphant, a prolific Victorian writer known for her ghost stories, whom I did not already know of. I'm currently trying to get my hands on the collections by Sheridan Le Fanu and Edgar Allan Poe. The images for the covers don't always capture the effect, but all the copies I've received so far have had beautiful, holographic foiling on the cover design and title.

I also have Kinuko’s stunning book and have even filmed a review of it - but I’m travelling for work at the moment and won’t be back to post it until almost Christmas - I agree, it’s gorgeous. I love the covers of the British Library hardback classics as well (I have a couple too, those cover designs are lovely!) - but I’m a bit concerned about the glued bindings - I’m planning to wait for a year or two of having them on my shelves and them getting read a few times to make sure they are durable before recommending them - interested in your experiences in this regard too… Thanks again for writing 💕

Hi Daisy!! Merry Christmas!! I've been watching for this post for the past couple of weeks and it was well worth the wait. Thank you so much for taking the time to create such a gorgeous tribute to some of the beautiful books that came out this year. I must say that the Folio edition of The Never-ending Story is stunning!!! I see that they've jumped on the sprayed edges bandwagon now. I hope to get the illustrated Harry Potter soon but was surprised to hear that Jim Kay won't be continuing the series. What a shame, though I understand that the later books in the series will probably be quite a massive job for whoever does them. And we'll likely need a crane to read them with! I would like the Magic of Mina Lima book as well because I love their work and I will likely add Snow White to my collection of that series at some point as well. Have you ever heard of Elfquest and the wonderful art of Wendy Pini??? I've been a fan of the series since it first came out nearly 45 years ago and Wendy Pini's art is stunning. I recommend Line of Beauty which features Wendy's journey from an art filled childhood to the stunning illustrations that she's done for her (and her husband Richard) series Elfquest and other creations. When it comes to beautiful books from this year, a book you did not mention is brave new world graphic novel published by penguin - vintage classics.
Will definitely try to get my hands on the natural history of mermaids, have the fairy one, and used it as part of a science project about classification of (mythical) animals

The Alice editions look beautiful. Are the pages glossy-ish (I forget the proper term for that).
I dislike the glossy style because of the way light reflects off the sheets, and the texture in general.

Is that Asterix book the old English translation or the new American version where many jokes no longer work because they took out the witt?
😮 I didn’t even know there was an American version with the names changed! This edition is published in the U.K. by Sphere and looks standard to me…

I'm looking for books about stone age civilizations. Specifically finno ugric.
Some book suggestions on finnish folklore and mythology would be nice too if anybody could lend a suggestion.
Illustrations would be a huge boon since I'm a 3d artist and I need the reference images.
