The Swedish SAV 20.12.48 is seen as one of the most blatantly overpowered premium tanks in War Thunder. It can launch one extremely potent APHE round every 1.2 seconds, so what if we tried to balance it by only using HE?

i mean, the uparmored P4s are almost immune to the APHE (84mm flat pen), but that 50mm turret is such a big target...

@icezinho_ Honestly Sweden has the most busted vehicles in the game, CV90105, Strv 122, USH, Ikv 91, SAV, VIDAR and ItPsV are all undertiered. Even the VEAK 40 is lower BR than the M247 despite being better in every practical way

0:55 Bofors really wanted to get into the vehicle market so they cut the barrel off one of their naval aa guns and built a fast casemate around it. Meant to be an assault gun but was rejected from service for being expensive.

It was part of the IKV (Infanteri kanonvagns) line of thinking, where it was supposed to deliver HE to support infantry operations, so the same as the IKV 91
Also it was never type classified as a IKV since it was a private venture, in the end it was to expensive to build and massproduce
So artillery but shorter range so it fucking dies to any sort of counter fire

@@ozan1234561how much armor does the average cold war apc/ifv have? even modern ones are thin, because protection from small arms protects you from 99% of your targets, and anything with anti-tank weaponry will penetrate you no matter what if you're lighter than a main battle tank

I regretted not getting it when it was available last year so I snagged it for Sweden Day or whatever. Absolutely no regrets. The ikv103 used to be my go to “get kills with a TD” but this thing is savage. Just watch out for those KV-1s 😂

1:30 I always bring some HE in the SAV 20.12 because you lack a machinegun for dealing with trucks, the APHE overpens and your reload is just 1 second to switch rounds.

I haven’t taken it to top tier, mostly because I can’t but in 5.3 it can vaporize Shermans, Tigers, Panthers, whatever. I managed to smack a Tiger from over a kilometer once, albeit in Arcade.
@user-dk6mh8zo1l Anything with a cupola will get vaporized. You have to kinda aim carefully, tho because most things don't have cupolas at top teir, but most tanks have thin sloped armor(M1 Abrams)

Hits back corner of Sherman: "all compartments destroyed!".
Yes I know that 'compartments' is a ships thing in this game, but many vehicles seem to also get it (which makes sense on some of the modern stuff specifically designed like that).
On both the Sherman and T-34 the engine and crew compartment are separated by a metal wall.
It genuinely pains me that some people say it's a "skill issue" if you think that this thing is op. And I can't tell if they're being trolls or actually think that.
Like yea the shell doesn't have a ton of pen, but neither does the Sherman and yet that thing still wrecks with the great cannon at that BR (not even taking the stabilizer into account), combine that with a lower BR, where you face things that aren't armored and the fact it's a casemate and has a low profile allows it to hide in places where the building sized Sherman can't even get into.
If they have bushes and back ups as well, they are straight up getting sent to hell. I don't care, fuck them, I literally couldn't play the game when that thing was on sale
It's a coping mechanism so they don't have to admit they aren't good at the game, they just rely on broken vehicles to do well.
CAS players will say the same thing.
Attempt 4 Challenge: For high tier support a nations MBT with its respective APC/IFV counterpart (ie Abrams/Bradley, T90/BMP2M, etc.) Challenge is keeping the other player alive and supporting it without stealing kills (breaking barrels, tracking, repairing, etc) it being a random should help make it interesting.

I think an interesting video would be on the TKX(p), the reason I say this, is because the TKX(p) is effectively the same as the TKX, but without some of the additional rolled armor (and just Dm33). What I enjoy to do in the TKX(p) is considering it has pneumatic suspension, with your dozer you can make some pretty fun hull down positions.

I pray that you get better and when you have the time you should definitely try the domestic Italian casemate tank destroyers (m41, m42, m43) they are so fun. They have some of the best guns in tier imo especially the first one having a 75mm gun with APCBC at 2.0 and 2.3. All of them aren’t open top and they have decent speed and turret flexibility.

Definitely one of the most fun tanks in the game, fast reload and the APHE has so much explosive that any pen is an instant kill. I kinda got burnt out on it because it was the sole vehicle I used to grind the 292 event but still great

A good trick that's often forgotten about when using HE, you can aim directly under the tanks that way you easily destroy them, especially for the heavy ones

From what I can tell there are two factors for HE penetration.
HE filler determined the „blast“ penetration while shell weight influences how the penetration reduction rate at range.
A light round can have 30mm of pen but might struggle to penetrate adjacent plates to the impact which are only 10-15mm.

This thing is my favorite vech in warthunder lol. It basically singlehandled broguht me upto the Bkan and i still bring it in along side the Bkan and it still slaps
The main reason the SAV looks so different to other Swedish vehicles is that while most Swedish tanks were designed by Landsverk, the SAV prototype was entirely made by Bofors, and it was built around the autoloading cannon (which comes from a ship design).
Hence the unusual appearance.

As the name suggests it's an assault gun, intended to provide direct fire support to infantry and some anti-tankgun capability (favoring speed over protection). However, no military bought it and it didn't get past the prototype stage.

It's a self-propelled artillery piece! It's designed to dump its autoloader and then reposition as quick as it can to avoid counter-battery.

Day 44 You should play a tank with hydropneumatic suspension (recommend the MBT-70) But the catch is you have to drop the suspension as low as it can go for the whole match.
