    In this video, I will be discussing one of George Hackenschmidt's favorite leg exercises, the Hack Lift! This truly forgotten leg exercise helped the "Russian Lion" build the strength that allowed him to rise to the top of the heavyweight division in professional wrestling. I hope you all enjoy this video!

    It's hard to believe Hackenschmidt was natural, looks like a young Arnold!

      I know! He looked extremely impressive even in a suit! His chest just exploded out of the front.

      Very hard! Start with no weight at first and get used to the movement pattern. Don’t be discouraged if you struggle with it at first.

    I’ve found my spine is pretty sensitive even to things like front squats, and I know someone in my family who got a herniated disc. This looks like an awesome way to build strength and size without killing my spine

    I just tried it with a plate behind the back. You can really feel it!

      Rock on! The hardest part for me is the balancing on my toes. It’s one of those exercises you really have to focus on and give your 100% effort to succeed at. Zero distractions.

    Very nice.
    Today , I was actually considering this exercise instead of Safety Bar Squat.
    Probably next time.
    Is there a difference between the way they are performed here and the way Reeves did them.
    The balancing on the toes during squats....I've heard of that from an old-timer called Pappy(his face looked like Popeyes dad) way back in 1980. He had an incredible physique. He was short and kinda build like Ed Corney with huge triceps.
    Pappy actually demonstrated squats on his toes with a bar on his back.
    I really miss those older guys from back then.

      Very awesome story! These are definitely different than the way Reeves did them. Reeves did not drop all the way down like this and he also did not have his hands side by side. His version was heavily modified.

      @@ForgottenFitness I've seen this version. I like the hands together because it prevents the bar from getting under the glutes and makes it smoother.

    I do a lot of kneesovertoes exercises so it might with a slant board or not because the muscles of the feet & calves get left out. I will have to give it a try.

    I've always done this type of exercise when I'm on low calories, have to got 40kg (88lbs)

    Great video, one question I have is if I practice this lift and get to a heavy weight would that help build a stronger barbell back squat?

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  Před 3 lety +1

      Sure, there would definitely be carryover there. It taxes the quads to a level you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. To answer your question, yes, it will help you build up your barbell back squat.

    I love doing kettlebell Hindu breathing-squats to work this pattern. I've never tried this. Never even seen it. I've seen the deadlift from behind the body but not a triple extension squat

    Does adding a plate for heel elevation help stabilize this better than standing on the fronts of the foot? Or does it the defeat the purpose of this lift?

      The way you actually squat down is completely different.

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  Před 3 lety +1

      The more modern barbell hack squat is a derivative of the Hackenshmidt lift.
