  • The Botanist Patrick Blanc takes you to a field trip in the Danum Valley Conservation Area where the shade loving herbaceous and shrubby forest understory species are highly diversified, just like the climbers and epiphytes in this protected lowland Dipterocarp forest.
    We thank Tim Utteridge for the identification of this so strange Semecarpus lineatus and André Schuiteman for the orchid names.

    Fantastic Education learning for anyone wanting to study Botany or Natural sciences for their career. Your journeys through the forest are what Jacques Cousteau was for exploration of our oceans. Thank you for leaving an incredible legacy to the next generations.

      Thanks to all of you. Yes, Danum Valley is very rich and well preserved, especially the forest around the lodge where many new Begonia species have been discovered in the past few years. The tallest Angiosperm tree, the Dipterocarp Shorea faguetiana, more than 100 m high, is from this area and we had the opportunity to meet the guy who did climb to the top to measure this giant tree.

    If you ever do a Field trip to the Fl Keys it would be an honor to show you around and document many Endangered species that will be lost to habitat loss and climate change within this century.

      Mycology is also a very interesting science now estimated to have over 1 million species in this classification, understanding how their coevolution with chemical signaling with plants is fascinating.

    a wonderful trip master! it is a great pleasure for me to follow you through borneo, to which i have a special connection through my love for the Cryptocoryne. her films show very clearly her great love for botany, her research spirit and youthful enthusiasm. simply wonderful! Greetings also to heni for his grandiose film work, feeling for detail and special atmosphere. Thank you very much!

    • @creaturefree
      @creaturefree  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Just as you can see on most of our films, I mostly make comments about the understory plants which is my research subject since 40 years. Of course, every time I have something to say about epiphytes, I try to do it like for Medinilla, Phlegmariurus, and many Araceae for instance. So many other people are interested by Orchids, Hoyas, Bromeliads etc, I leave the space for them to try to show these plants in primary forests.

      Are there any species, hybrids or ornaments that are named after Patrick Blanc if we were wanting to add to our plant collections? Any suggestions to any favorites we might want to keep in our tropical gardens?
