I see A7X as a menu with many plates and options. If I want something raw, I'll listen to Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet. If I just want to sing along then the self titled, If I want something experimental then The Stage. Deep cuts I listen to Diamonds in the rough.
I do like all albums and can listen start to finish, even LIBAD. But at this point after several listens to their discography I just have my favorites that stand out to me and are the songs I play in repeat.
Also, I do believe LIBAD took extremely long time to come out and did took me quite a few listens to get used to it.

Your point makes totally sense and is a great approach to any discography! From my perspective I see clearly that they’re are downgrading since The Stage even though you can rescue 2-3 songs from there and appreciate the try of making something different. Life is but a dream however is just not good in my opinion, presumptuous and frivolous. I tried many listens but is just miles and miles away from their greatest records.
Anyway, glad to check other points of view, many thanks for watching and commenting! 🤘🏻

Avenged Sevenfold has changed their music style when they made the album "The Stage" in 2016, honestly for me it is quite difficult to "adapt" to albums such as for example "Life is but a dream, The Stage and Diamonds In the Rough, from those three albums honestly I can only enjoy some of the songs, maybe in one album I like 3-4 songs, different from the album "City of Evil, their Self Tittled Album, or the Nightmare album, I really really really like that they made the album with a CRAZY touch, everyone likes it for sure.

Hey! Thank you for your comment, I see we are quite agree in our analysis 😉
The Stage was definitely their wrong milestone and from there everything went down in their career. From City of Evil to Nightmare they reached their peak, absolute masterpieces.
Let’s see if they make a great album in their next one!🤞🏻

@@Metal_FranNightmare was their swan song. No one recovers from losing their drummer especially when the drummer is a key songwriter. Anything they do after Nightmare is gravy and tbh a lot of it is very good, but has to be measured not against the 2003 - 2010 stuff.

@@guyincognito320 Totally agree with you. Hail to the King was still a great album from there even though they lost a personal touch in there and the record sounds like that one from 1991 with a black cover… After that, misery.

    1. Nightmare. Has two of my favorite moments in rock history. The heavy part towards the end of Buried Alive, and the clean riff towards the end of Save Me. Save Me is my favorite song period. The album is like if Metallica were much more dynamic.
    2. Waking the Fallen. All killer, no filler. The most cohesive album they made. They were still raw and Gates was not yet the great player he would become. They could have made 3 more albums just like this and I would have been happy.
    3. City of Evil. Probably their best, just not my personal favorite. All killer no filler again. A little too melodic and playful, sometimes grating. Beast is probably their greatest individual song. I'll never understand how 23 year olds could've made that song. The biggest demerit is it's impossible to sing live due to overlapping vocal lines so they couldn't really do the album justice on the road.
    4. Hail to the King. Drums are boring and an intentionally uncreative album but still nothing but good jams. Planets and Acid Rain are B-sides, that hurts the finish a little bit.
    5. The Stage. Brooks is great but he just doesnt do it for me. He's got no edge and he's too nifty. The songs are all very good but I don't relate well to the atheist/science themes throughout. Metal is best when it's at least pretending to be Christian. The lyrics are a summary of 2010s podcasting memes, like Joe Rogan guests talking about simulation and doing DMT and the vastness of space. Nothing we havent digested before, no interesting insights. Still I listen all the way through because musically it's quite good.
    6. LIBAD. Self-consciously evil disgusting album, pure nihilism in lyrics and overall sound and feel. "You walk on water but the water swallows you" is supposed to be a "beautiful morning"? Uh okay.
I don't really rate Sounding the 7th Trumpet, I consider it a teenager practice album.
I don't know where to put self-titled because I see it as a collection of unusual takes and B sides. Lost is a straight pop song. Dear God is a country song. Still a great collection of songs, but has no overall sense of purpose. I think Matt's vocals are best on this one. His voice on Scream and Almost Easy is the sound of fire itself. They seem to try to piss off some of their fans with every album. This one is extremely poppy and worlds apart from two albums before. I don't complain much but I always feel like they could've been way better than they are if they had focused. But regardless one of my all time favorite bands

What a great comment, thank you for that!
I see that we agree basically almost in everything in our analysis. From The Stage the band lost it all and Life is but a dream is just a nonsense awful album.
I hope (but don’t believe) they will come back to their roots eventually and give to us a new great piece.
      Thank you again!🤘🏻

I am happy for you if you enjoyed last album! I am very open to new music and styles always but… sometimes when you listen a bad album life is not a dream, just a nightmare 😅

@Metal_Fran LIBAD is an album that has no in between, you either like it immediately or you won't at all. For me it took several listens, and at this point I have my favorites like Mattel and Beautiful Morning

@@cafrayrecxv4749 Agree with you, I am on the second boat 😜
I tried but is just not for me. I would rescue maybe Nobody and that’s it… Great production though!
