- In this woodworking project I will show you how to make a table. This table is for 10 persons with dimensions of 2.6m by 1.1m, and I will make it from Mappa Burl SLAB. This sleb is 3m long and 0.9m wide, was cut in half to produce a table-river effect. I usually use black epoxy when making. Drying of such a Mappa Burl Live Edge Slabs took place in a vacuum dryer.
The most time-consuming process in the manufacture of an epoxy table is the grinding of the table surface, but when it comes to cap poplar, the step of cleaning all holes from the bark and various defects inherent in cap poplar is added.
After eliminating the defects, we proceed to the installation of the formwork for the table. After which we pur the epoxy. To flatening the surface of table , I use a router sled .
Then I sand the surface of the table with sandpaper 120 grit to 180 grit. Such conditions should be for the topcoat "Rubio Monocoat".

Vacuum drying of wood consists in the fact that when the pressure decreases during drying, the boiling point of the moisture in the wood decreases, and therefore the moisture quickly evaporates at a relatively low temperature.The material to be dried is placed in a special autoclave or hermetic chamber, where air is rarefied. Since the boiling point of water in a vacuum is lower than at atmospheric pressure, by creating a vacuum with a depth of 0.9 kg/cm², the temperature of the drying agent can be reduced to 40...45 °С. In this way, it is possible to carry out an intensive and, at the same time, low-temperature drying process while fully preserving the natural properties of wood.

I'm not usually a big fan of epoxy river tables as they've been done to death recently, however, that one looks amazing, but I didn't expect anything less from the master himself. Poor Jackie, got caught chewing on something he probably shouldn't have and then missed his best friend so had to look longingly through the window at him for some attention. He's still a puppy really so not too surprising. Thanks for the video and for more shots of your adorable pal, he's the real icing on the cake of an amazing channel of brilliant woodworking geniuses. To begin with the wood was rather plain looking, but I was hopeful that'd change when the finish was applied ... then the moment arrived and I was not disappointed ... absolutely stunning figuring and the tones of the wood, especially when you were initially polishing it, are just amazing 👍

Nice looking table. Personally, as much as I love the look of it, perhaps next time, go with gold instead of black. It would go much better with that particular wood, especially once finished using that particular finish of oil.

Well that is just beautiful. Well done. You’re quite the master. Is it as hot in your part of Europe as it is in southern parts of Europe? Here in Alberta, Canada we’ve been dealing with excessively hot and dry weather since May. As a result we have huge forest fires that have been burning thousands of hectares of forest for the last 2 months. The smoke is terrible and is sometimes so thick that the middle of the day is as dark as the middle of the night. We’ve all been coughing constantly for months now. I will never complain about winter again.
