    Great video. Not just from FOH Audio perspective. After 2 decades of TV audio in the field I started doing FOH corporate and now some music. I like hearing how SMPTE TC for the show works for lights and prod mgr. And click for musulicians with Ableton. Great behind the scenes stuff.

    The SD8 is a mighty desk! Do you just load different scenes based on the SMPTE throughout the show that were pre-programmed or you also have to do your gain staging, EQing, etc? Also I'm curious to what PA you guys are running there? Keep up the good work!

    • @christinecaldbeck
      @christinecaldbeck  Před 8 měsíci

      We actually do both set ups. For the show in the video above, that is all preprogrammed. All the gains and EQ’s. That is done during the week of instal.
      Other guest entertainers will come in and they would never be running SMPTE shows or anything like that so that is all from scratch

    Hi Christine, my name is Adrian and I am an ex Entertainment Technical Manager on Carival Cruise Line. I just subscribed to your channel, your videos are bringing back so many nice memories. I am very interested to see how the Entertainment Technical department is structured on Royal and compare it to Carnival. I am helping Cast-a-way Cruise and Resort Hiring Agency to recruit Entertainment Technicians for different cruise lines. If that's ok with you, i will start sending links to your videos to future ship techs. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see new videos!

    So is everything automatic from that abelton file? Or does it just prompt you to physically mute and unmute things, adjust levels, the lighting engineer to physically turn on states etc.? Like are you still riding faders? Fascinated by this.

    • @christinecaldbeck
      @christinecaldbeck  Před 8 měsíci

      Everything is supposed to run itself. All mics unmute themselves so I just get to focus on the mix. But again all the levels are set for each song so I’m just in charge of making sure nothing goes wrong

    • @christinecaldbeck
      @christinecaldbeck  Před 8 měsíci

    1) What are the knowledge and requirements to apply to Stage Staff?
    2) DOES THE SCENERY THAT HAS TO BE ASSEMBLED REQUIRE INSTALLING AND SCREWING THINGS, OR THAT DOES NOT THE STAGE STAFF DO THAT?

    • @christinecaldbeck
      @christinecaldbeck  Před rokem

      Well there is no minimum age specifically for the job as a sound technician. It more so depends on experience. The minimum working age requirement for the company I work with is 18 I believe but I would have to double check that.

  • @keithdear6069
    @keithdear6069 Před rokem +1

    As musician with studio experience, and regular cruiser, I have a question of concern that you may be able to answer. As I'm sure you are aware, in industry the 'safe' loudness limit is 85db, over which ear protectors must be legally provided. This is not a matter of earing sensitivities, it is a matter of safety & law. I am constantly horrified, throughout many popular cruise lines that the production show levels are well in excess of 100db, and nobody seems to care. I often see children in the audience with hands over their ears - their parents unaware that it is causing them long term damage. If I understand you correctly, the settings as provided for the prerecorded production shows are set in stone, and you may not have any control over the loudness. Years ago, when I regularly played in bands, the venues would sometimes have a cut out meter that effectively killed the sound if it was over the 'safe' limit. These days. many of us have free sound meters on our mobiles (but they must be callibrated to get meaningful results.) The cruise industry promotes the mantra, 'Your saftey is our main concern' but clearly that does not include one's hearing. I often wonder if, once at sea, certain regulations which apply on land, no longer apply? Do you ever monitor the actual loudness levels as part of your job?

    • @christinecaldbeck
      @christinecaldbeck  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi Keith, this is an excellent point and I highly agree with everything you are saying. I have to say it depends on the sound technician. We are told to abide by the 85 dB rule, however, if a sound tech decides to ignore it then it is rare they are reprimanded for it.
      If it gets to a point where it is way too loud in every show sometimes the boss’s will have to step in. Production Managers, Cruise Directors, Hotel Directors etc.
      Also, if enough guests complain then something will be done about it. Guest reviews are often listened to.

    • @keithdear6069
      @keithdear6069 Před 10 měsíci

      @@christinecaldbeck Hi Christine. Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that the issue is on the radar. I guess if someone sued the cruise line for negligence, things would be tightened up. (Don't worry it won't be me). On our most recent cruise (QM2) the production shows sounded to me as if a limiter was in use (I could hear some audio artifacts) - the sound had lost it's 'punch' but at least it was at a safe level. I wonder if this was the case.
