Wonderful interview , as a aikidoist i met Freeman sensei (3 rivers aikido) several times he' s a really good teacher , then met Seagal sensei .Matsuoka sensei, Reynosa sensei tenshin aikido is really good and effective , Seagal sensei bring aikido to another level thank you very much Mr Viking Samurai for this nice interview 🙏🙏🙏

I took Yoshukai karate when I was a kid, so when I saw Segal for the first time in a movie, I recognized all the authentic movement mechanics at work, and saw the training and skill in it. I have been a fan ever since.

Sensei Seagal is who got me interested in training martial arts and loving Aikido.
I have been a fan of Mr. Seagal since I was 8 years old, and I will continue❤ since then I started Korean Hapkido thanks to him, and other arts. My grandfather was a catch wrestler, but Mr. Seagal's inspiration is a matter of the heart.

I live in Miami, and Sensei Freeman mentions finding barrels of swords near the Miami River. Incidentally, the Miami River is in the backdrop of the final scene of 'Only The Strong' (1993). I train in JKD with Sifu Dwight Woods who made a brief appearance in Only The Strong as one of the gang members who fought Mark Dacascos with a machete right before the final fight against Silvario.

I am also a lifetime martial artist that is mesmerized by the history and details of all martial arts. I'm not an Aikido guy, I did ITF TKD, but I feel like most of Seagal's detractors are MMA rednecks who voted for Donald Trump, so I don't lend them much credence. He likes making stuff up and has a bad history with women, but his skill in martial arts is undeniable.
Well, obviously. This Elliott Freeman telling all these nice things about Seagal, whereas people who have in fact met and experienced Steven Seagal to be a complete jackass and violent person, makes it somewhat unbelievable. In fact, I'm pretty sure half of the nice things he's saying about Steven Seagal is probably just bs. However, I do like this Elliott Freeman a lot. To me, he comes across as a very gentle and kind person.

Sounds like I would love to meet Sensei Freeman. I grew up in South Florida as well, and had my own concerns about Aikido when I decided to pursue it. That’s when I came across Professor Philip Chenique’s schools of “Chendokan Aikido” and Atemi-Ryu Ju-Jitsu. He had similar goals for Aikido as Seagal. The dojo I trained at my specific Sensei made me take both Aikido and Ju-Jitsu. I actually wonder if Sensei Freeman knows Professor Chenique? Whether he deserves the hate or not I will always be grateful to Seagal for the inspiration I gained from him to seek out Aikido.
Funny watching a clip of the cartels movie, and seeing GSP in it guy cant act, he was one one of the best all time fighting in the UFC, but his acting mostly in that movie was not to good.

5:20 A little correction...Chuck Norris' first black belt was Kenneth Osborne (1966), not Rick Hamilton. Later on, Norris would list Pat Johnson as his first and Osborne as his second on his family tree.

I understand Sensi Seagal s style of aikido was very much more budo than aiki aikido and other variations. I could be wrong. Tenshin was very hard style.
It strongly resembles the older predecessor of Aikido. Check out some Aiki Jutsu demo's. There highly combat oriented but still use the circular posture and balance breaks and locks that are familiar in Ueshibas Iwama Aikido.
The founder was both hard and soft... if you can be soft and effective it means you are at a higher level... Seagal's aikido is just aikido, but he's at a higher level because he trained hard, went to Japan, etc, etc... most aikido teachers do it as a hobby, not as a full time profession, most can't USE aikido vs let's say a BJJ world champion, for example... the real reason for this is because today's aikido came from the son of the founder of aikido and his friends but the founder of aikido didn't pass on the art of aikido to his son, he passed it on to a guy named Tohei... but Tohei let the family have the name so the founder's family would be financially provided for... so what we are learning today isn't the true lineage of aikido... not many realize this... but it's why most aikido doesn't work... there's more to it, because there's more to aikido than meets the eye, and yes it stems from Daito and the founder was actually teaching Daito, he only named it aikido so he wouldn't have to pay his teacher royalties, it's the same thing... but some things like aiki sage and aiki age are totally lost in modern aikido and the loss of these small details is why modern aikido has a bad reputation... but this is the traditional way... a real master never teaches his secrets.

I heard a similuar story about Seagal from a actor I met in Vancover he said he was in a seagal movie and was in a fight scene with him, he said they were hanging out on set, and he said he asked Seagal to show him something, and this guy was a 6'2 black guy and was in the movie Kill shot, he said Steven said to him well come at me full force and throw whatever you want, he said he did then all he knows is that he missed , and ended up on his back, and says for sure Seagal is awesome.

I have trained with SEAGAL Shihan top student HARUO MATSUOKA SHIHAN he is in all SEAGAL early movies 🎥 but I have never heard of this guy weird 💯
Seagal's first four action films were definitely ground breaking and unsurpassed by any others.
Other action films were obsessed with high jump kicks, spinning kicks, ridiculous fight scenes.
The first four Seagal-Nasso production action films had fight scenes that perfectly blended realism, brutality and surreal.
Jesse the karate Nerd met with and did some classes with Seagal shihan in Dubai.
Everything Seagal shihan demonstrated is taught in traditional Okinawa Ryu Kara Te, Japanese Jujutsu and Daito Ryu. . . The punching style Seagal shihan teaches is taught in Okinawa iishin ryu Kara te, old English pugilism, old bareknuckle American fisticuffs and Wing Tsun.
Seagal shihan began in Kara Te, before training Aikido, Wing Tsun, Daito Ryu, koryu jujitsu, kenjutsu and FMA.
So it's no surprise that Seagal shihan incorporates a lot of Okinawan Kara te into his bujutsu of Tenshin Gakuen Bugei .
Seagal shihan has real bujutsu.
Yeah I agree his fight scenes were done really well. They looked realistic and brutal arm and finger breaks. Always fun to rewatch those movies.

@@bryanchaney2572and that there is absolutely no evidence of him ever having fought anyone at all. In fact I don’t think I’ve seen any aikido sensei fight anyone in any other martial art. I can only recall seeing one guy who had been training for fifteen years and teaching aikido testing it out on CZcams and finding he couldn’t use it at all with non compliant martial artists. After he trained a bit of mma, ju-jitsu, kick boxing and the like I think he did manage to apply a wrist lock or something similar but not very effectively and didn’t find his aikido training good for anything but falling.

Would be awesome if you interviewed a Daito Ryu Master since that is the pre war stuff he talks about without naming it. Aikido came from Daito Ryu not small circle wally Jay stuff. All the aikido guys specifically neglect mentioning Daito Ryu because then the secret would be out that the art they came from works.
The Small Circle reference is because Segal Sensei tightened up the movements similar to small circle. I think most people know O'Sensei studied Daito Ryu, as for his pre war stuff being the same, that seems to depend on who you talk to, but O'Sensei didn't call it Aikido at that time either. Evidently he was still awarding Daito Ryu certificates, so perhaps it's one of those confused by later generations things.
I have done both dairo and aikido, and there are big differences, there was a group of newsletters by tokimuna takeada about his father firstly the view of daito is for law enforcenent, takeada taught at pilice stations aceoss japan. He talks about ushiba teaching along side takeada, ushiva was still using strength to make aiki work against larger people, this is where in my view aikido has gone wrong, in the beginning students need to use strength, later skill replaces that, but should not be forced like it is today.
@@wadoryujujutsukempo6289 perhaps it varies in different schools. I'm 6ft and pretty strong and I found that a disadvantage in the aikido classes I went to. Though some of that initially was being used to being able to use strength without flexibility (lots of kayaking). That was with Katnetsuka Sensei who was relatively small compared to me, so perhaps that makes a difference.
@@AndrewUKLondon your right size makes a major difference, shionage is hard to pull off on someone who is much shorter than you, like wise irimi nage is difficult against a taller person. The set of newsletters were on the mainline daito ryu website, but the last time i went there they were removed, not sure why, history wise, they are priceless

Inosanto was teacher to Bruce Lee, introducing him to nunchaku. He himself started using Nunchuks in 1947 at the age of 11. So who was this guy that taught you the Nunchucks??
First of all masters in Japan would never let a white american teach akido or any art in Japan no matter how long he lived there unless he proved himself, oh yeah he did Seagal took on many all out challenges full contact, and won them all, his school is still open till this day.

Master Muru trained me in akido Ashley Jackson talk me taekwondo Master Muru taught me kendo and jodo short staff and master Jackson taught me judo it works and juzsu quite shooting for the legs that leave ya neck open to get snapped before ya hit the ground
There’s something about a true fighting system. That’s also a sport problem is it eventually gets water down but there’s something about a real Marshall are like Brazilian jujitsu judo. That’s also a sport as long as you don’t lose the street park you get really fucking good.
Aikido good interview but I'll stick with my Sambo, Combat Systema is awesome if you have a good coach. 🙏 My Catholic priest was a Boxer before he became a Priest, now the Church Gym we have a Sambo & Combat Systema & Judo training Boxing is in combat Sambo.
It's not the martial art, it's the person, but what are you going to do vs a guy with a big knife or sword? Aikido teaches what to do vs both of these.
Watch the video of Steven being attacked by his four students closely at around 21:34. They don't actually attack Steven, they run to his side and then roll in perfect obedience beyond him, returning in a choreographed manner attacking mostly one at a time in a silly and confused way, with no real focus or ferocity, but more like mindless, limp noodles. Their heads cocked back anticipating being clothes lined, their arms loose and limp and positioned conveniently to make them easy to access and manipulate. Some of Aikido properly timed and combined with more useful styles can have some value, but as a standalone system it will get you hurt in the real world.
Not true, you only say this because you are inexperienced... they train that way to avoid injury... it's a form of sparring, just like in BJJ sparring nobody chokes someone until they die, they choke them until they tap, if you choke someone unconscious in class it means you are an idiot and out of control... are BJJ fighters weak because they don't kill their opponents? No... just because they are sparring at less than full reality doesn't make a martial art ineffective. In fact the top BJJ fighter of all time in the Gracie family now basically teaches aikido principles in his BJJ classes and is an aikido black belt... just because it's choreographed doesn't mean it doesn't work in reality... you train the choreographed kata sparring to avoid injury and learn the techniques... aikido when done with full force and with a full speed attacker will kill someone, so you don't want to do that in class.
Professor Rickson is basically teaching Aikido basics in this seminar. Put an Aikido gi on him and its an Aikido class.

Did your teacher break your neck or kill you to show you the techniques or did he do a safe and controlled simulation? Do you think you can train in the real world or do you train in a controlled environment? Does the military kill their training partners and soldiers when they train or do they do choreographed training simulation to learn the skill so they can use it in the real world. The military uses flight simulators (which are not real world) to train safely, just like martial artists (not just aikido practitioners) use simulated altercations to train to learn the skills. You are just showing your lack of mental capacity lack of logic and based on that you couldn't possibly be an experience martial artist. Is a street fight where the loser isn't killed "real world" or is that just a form of game where the loser gets some less than life-threatening injuries? If you examine your position and statements they don't make any sense. All martial artists train in a safe, controlled, and less than real world situation... even Mike Tyson, even Bruce Lee, even UFC fighters, and even special ops in the military train in a safe and controlled (choreographed) way.

Moo Duk Kwan is not Tae Kwon Do. It's Tang Soo Do. When the different styles of Tang Soo Do broke off and Chuck Norris created his own organization (WTSDA/ American Karate), the founder of Tang Soo Do mister Hwang Kee created his own organization to which he gave the name of his style of Tang Soo Do which was Moo Duk Kwan (Tang Soo Do is like Karate. It's un umbrella term. Because in Karate you have Shotokan, Gojo Ryu, Kyokushin etc. That's how TSD is as well. And the founder of TSD called his style Moo Duk Kwan). But later he renamed his organization from Moo Duk Kwan to Soo Bahk Do. But people don't really call it Soo Bahk Do and continue to say it Moo Duk Kwan or just Tang Soo Do

But historically Moo Duk Kwan was the name of the style of Hwang Kee's TSD (or it was Soo Bahk Do and then named Moo Duk Kwan. Depending on where you search they will either say that his TSD style was named Moo Duk Kwan and he then changed it to Soo Bahk Do or that his TSD style was Soo Bahk Do and he then changed it to Moo Duk Kwan). So yeah. And from what I searched the Taekwondo Moo Duk Kwan organisation is even newer than WT and ITF (which were the first two organisations of Taekwondo). So once again historically Moo Duk Kwan is TSD. But who cares nowdays? Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan is still referred to as TSD so no one really cares. I just gave some historical information that's all!

I don’t even know if JKD is up-to-date anymore. I myself am a wrestler and a lifetime JKD self taught person. I’m a fighter as well and I add Wrestling to my Jeet Kune Do. But there’s also a Aikido, and small circle jujitsu, which Bruce Lee learn from Wally Jay who was from Hawaii. And I don’t know if those are included in Dan Innosanto’s system of JKD or Tommy Carruther’s JKD system either. I would be surprised if wrestling is none of them are wrestlers.

Hello again ! Aikido looks wonderful - all those opponents flying in the air. It really catches our eyes. The same is to Taekwondo that also looks beautiful. As usual, the question arises ; Is it reallly so effective in a real fight situation. Sometimes it seems that the point is not to be held or caught by an Aikido adept. I know that we won't see Aikido in the cage like MMA matches because the Aikido master has to have free palms ( I mean without gloves ) to catch a body part of his / her opponent. Is it a way of avoiding an Aikido' fighter's counter-attack by keeping some distance and punching from some distance ? Maybe it sounds like a simple piece of advice but there must be a way to survive a struggle against Aikido adepts. Aikido and Judo are a very specific fighting style and sometimes I think that it would be easier for a Karate man to learn some Aikido's elements than for an Aikido student to learn Karate. But of course I might be wrong. Regards.
have zero experience in aikido. However, i have “perfected” the Sabaki technique for my full contact karate (Enshin / Ashihara). In Enshin, you leverage on the opponents Gi (and the back of the neck) to pull them off center and either, throw knees or take them down. In the matter of fact, I was able to adopt the “two handed pull” or Kozushi with gloves on for Muay Thai as well Lol! (Instead of grabbing the Gi, using arm bar and pulling opponent off center)
Karate and aikido are almost identical when done at a high level you can barely tell them apart, the problem is that not many are doing high level aikido anymore. The founder of aikido said that striking (atemi) is 90% of aikido.
@@VenturaIT Thank You very much for your comment, I guess that the founder of Aikido must have known what he's saying, although I'd never come to such conclusions, maybe because I can usually see men who try to strike but without any effects, cos they suddenly throw into the air when their energy changes its direction and turns against the attackers. Perhaps I know too little on Aikido. As to me, I can see similarities between Aikido & Jujitsu rather than Karate but again, that might be some delusion. And you say ,high level' - yes, that's definitely true, ,high level' = almost perfection is just what makes a martial artist the master. Good luck !

@@eiffno.01 They all stem from the samurai arts (except for Karate)... at some point the martial arts (real martial arts from the samuarai, not the hobbies and sports of today) were outlawed, so the samurai masters in Japan made "do" arts out of them like Ju"do" and Aiki"do" and so forth, they did this to preserve the old traditions so they wouldn't be lost to history. They are not the same as the samuari martial arts like Daito Ryu which was a real samurai art who's purpose was to kill someone... the founder of Aikido original was teaching Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu and he change the name so his teacher would stop asking for royalties from him... the found of Aikido said that striking (atemi) is 90% of Aikido... keep in mind that Aikido of today is not what the founder was teaching... this is complicated because the founder passed on the art of Aikido to a guy named Tohei but Tohei gave the name Aikido to the son of the founder who was not the official heir to the art... so if you want to learn Aikido you should study Daito Ryu. Aikido, Judo, Karate, JJJ, BJJ are all like cousins and look very similar at the highest level, that's because we all have human bodies and the best way to do things are the same in each martial art with very small variations.
