Potential tension = Potension
"Tensiopo"
hahaha i don't know why I laughed so hard at this comment. Thanks
@headbite alien can we please make this a word lol
Fuck! Just came to type the same thing only to see your comment. Have a like!
Your comment is just Brilliant.
Was it a perfect movie? Not by a long shot. But it was definitely one hell of a ride and I was definitely entertained the entire time.
Jeff goldblum is having good paychecks this year...
1997residente what about Josh Brolin????? IW,DP2,Saldado
praveen reddy The budgets from two of those films are pretty small and even IW cast money is mostly going to RDJ so Brolin probably "only" got like ten million plus. (Jesus Christ.) Goldblum, however, basically just sits or stands around and exists hilariously and gets paid buckets of money by Marvel and Universal. Smart guy.
Carlos Murillo idk about you but to me 10 million qualifies as a good paycheck.
Carlos Murillo But Brolin’s also getting Deadpool 2 and Sicario 2 money
Brolin will be fiIthy rich after this year since both I.W and DeadpooI made a Iot of money
Dude I NEED more hilariocities.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesss!!!
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Pretty please!!!
Gods of Egypt hilariocity!
Don’t worry last year he said he was going to do 1 per week. Due any day now.
I literally had no idea this movie is out
Yeah.. films released by Global Road Entertainment don't really get that Marvel hype we're used to. :)
R_J, yeah, I didn't either, until I just saw it listed at my local cheap Regency Valley Plaza 6 Theater.
Same
So its like that hotel from John Wick?
Lutece the movie is a continental rip-off fr
When I first saw the trailer I honestly thought this was a spin-off of John Wick, but I was slightly disappointed to realize it wasn't.
Marc E.T At least we got to see Jodie Foster again. I missed her.
Lutece First thing I thought when I saw the trailer.
Yup
I finally got to see this, and I really liked it, I usually watch the review after I've seen it if I'm interested, I know that's odd but I like seeing other people's opinions after I form my own.
This movie may lack in some places but the performances are fantastic, Charlie Day really shines in this, which I know some people will find that odd.
It may not seem like original ideas, but when you see them come together, it is great. The plot may seem to wander at times but that's due to there been multiple characters each having their own tale that comes together naturally.
At 96 minutes it tells what it needs to, but it really wouldn't surprise me if there's any deleted scenes, I would love a two hour version to hopefully expand a bit more, and especially to find out how Quinto miraculously appears.
Personally I give this a B, if the only problem is that I wanted to spend more time in this world then I say great work.
Hotel? Trivago
Chris I have a suggestion for a hilariocity: a movie called LOL with Miley Cyrus. It’s fun at parties
Lauren Bennett Lol
*hilariocrity
That was a good sardonicast
Hart hat gosh darn right that was
I've just learned Chris has depression...that's why i relate to him so much.
Agreed, he should be in it again.
1997residente when'd he say that??
Sardonicast is really frustrating. YMS ruins it, always cutting off Ralph and IHE because "he has the more interesting things to say." That guy is so full of himself. I'd much rather see a podcast with just IHE and Ralph.
I saw it last week and you hit the nail directly on the head with this review.
Lionsgate is promoting "Hotel Artemis" as "From the Producers of John Wick" here in my country Philippines. Maybe Lionsgate/Summit & Global Road can crossover this with John Wick universe.
A Shame. This movie had so much potential. Original concept, awesome cast. Gonna save my money for Sicario 2.
+Dormammu, what? That's the point of a review, bruh. If you're watching a review, you're trying to formulate an opinion on whether or not a movie is worth a watch. If he/she finds Stuckmann's explanation convincing enough (let's be clear here, Stuckmann forgives a lot in movies), then that's that. Squalid will spend his/her money elsewhere.
This is Chris review. You can't say this movie is bad or good without seeing it for yourself. Chris just tells you what he thinks about a film and his likes and dislikes. If your whole opinion on a movie is based on one person, then you might as well called yourself either a slave or a mindless follower. Think for yourself.
I agree with Chris most of the time but there are time that I don't agree with him. He doesn't dictate what's good and what's not and he doesn't dictate if I will like a movie or not.
+Dormammu - did you really need to be a douchebag?
+Dormammu, the problem is that you're jumping to conclusions here. We don't know if Squalid will watch the movie later or not. He was simply stating that he's going to spend his money on a movie which already had a good 1st film. I don't blame him as spending money on movies becomes extremely regrettable when the movie turns out to be bad. That's how I felt when I went to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes, at least: utterly bitter.
What I've gotten from Chris Stuckmann's review was that the movie gives off the Cloud Atlas vibe, in that the idea itself makes the movie worth a watch alone, even if it might not be well-executed. And that's a movie I can get behind, and Stuckmann did a good job making sure he's not entirely projecting his thoughts onto the viewer.
Get moviepass
Thanks for the review! I basically had the same sentiment leaving the theater. The main plot and sub plots had potential, but literally none of them paid off. The characters were underdeveloped and I never really cared what happened to them. Spot on review...keep up there good work!
He’s got an Oceans Eleven case in the background... are we getting an Ocean’s 8 review soon?
Lol looks like you had your Oceans Eleven bluray out in the background for your Oceans 8 review and forgot to put it away for this one. Great review as always. I might pass up on this movie since theres so much coming out within the next few weeks.
Great review Chris 👍 can't wait to check this one out tomorrow night!
It's literally a John Wick Hospital.
I really love the roles Batista is getting, he has lots of talent and I hope to see more of him.
I love that 8 bit jigsaw shirt!
First Justin Y reply!
God fucking dammit
Do you literally watch every single video I watch? Fucking weird as shit...
Dan I know right? He watches literally every kind of CZcams video there is.
who is this guy ....... I see him everywhere
Saw that Ocean's Eleven blu-ray in the background so I'm expecting an Ocean's 8 review soon. Really wanna watch that review because I love the cast and I wanna know if the movie is good and is worth buying a ticket for
SO, JODIE FOSTER IS BACK ...
WOW!
I totally agree with Chris`s review; I`m just wondering were they restricted by budget in this movie?
Thanks for the uploads Chris!
The cinema near me was only showing this film at really awkward times, and me and a friend finally managed to see it yesterday. We loved it and didn’t get why it wasn’t showing more
I see Ocean’s Eleven in the background! Are you gonna review the trilogy before Ocean’s 8 comes out?
Great video, as always! Could you please do a review on 'Berlin Falling' ?
I could have seen this movie yesterday, but I didn’t want to go to San Francisco.......soooo much traffic getting up there. And I would be getting out of there really late at night since it’s one of those free movie showings where you have to stand in line for a couple hours before being seated.
i cant tell you how happy I am to see your reviews
Great premise and perfect timing when the only thing out there to see now a days are superhero films. But I totally agree...so much potential and not necessarily disappointing but there were no excitement for me.
I get a John Wick Continental sort of vibe... And now I've just gotten to the part of the review where you say this.
I just finished Jeremy’s review and was on IMDB
can u make a playlist for all movie reviews?
It's not perfect but I still absolutely loved it. The aesthetic was totally my style and I love that mixture of beauty and dark tone
Grew up watching Jodi Foster..she is one of the best actors Period
you grew up watching?😕 not cool dude soooo naht cool
Paws n Claws, agreed.
loved seeing Jodie Foster back in front of the camera. her character as the nurse was very good. Dave bautista plays the tough guy and does a good job. I loved the story and actors in this film.Charlie day was funny. I found myself having a good time with this movie and despite the low box office numbers I'd like to see a sequel however very unlikely we get one. so I gave it A-.
While it does try to be many things at once, I REALLY liked this movie. True, some potential is wasted, but the world that's set up along with the story, it's a good watch. The cast also really adds to this, so many talented actors. Would've loved more Goldblum as well 🤔😆
Oh, by the way, Chris, it was a fireman's axe he was using at the end. The hallway fight near the end was savage, too 😊
So this is the sequel to Hotel California?
Sweet Karamel stole my joke
Really enjoyed this movie! Something refreshing concept and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Have there been any A* reviews this year?
Are there any good movies?
Hereditary
BG 666 that was an A
Did he mean A+?
BG 666 if you're talking about @Liv-Ir's comment than yes, he was asking about the A+ movies this year.
This movie reminded me, in a visual and conceptual sense, of Strange Days. I expected more use of a certain character introduced halfway through, as well.
Chris, review Taxi Driver
dude, i never noticed that star fox tat untill now, awesome
We must not have watched the same movie. It had me right away! Sure, they left you to figure out what was going on, but that was part of the fun. I like that they didn't treat the audience like we weren't smart enough to pick up what was happening. Other movies can be condescending and ruin a movie by explaining every detail of what is about to happen in a forced way just because ...
👏 👏 👏 👏
In the trailer I really got a vibe like the movie Wanted crossed with the Hotel in John Wick. But it seems like they just tried to play it safe through the whole movie and never took any risks. Too bad because I was afraid it would come off limp and seems it did.
This should be a series.
I see that copy of Oceans Eleven. Guessing our next review we’ll get is oceans 8. Wonder how that’ll go.
Never even heard of this movie ‘till now.
It sounds interesting, at least.
I thought it was a John Wick spin off honestly, I think it would be a better movie if it was
Graftanker 98 I thought the same thing at first.
Graftanker 98 They are going to make a tv series instead.
Art vandaley gross. We already had the Taken and Shooter tv series and they were trash.
Yes, we need a John Wick Extended Universe, with origins stories for all the characters in John Wick 1+2, where every cast aside remark in the OD (Original Duopoly) is shown to have immense significance.
Oh, wait ... that's Star Wars
I felt going in it’d be about the brother dynamic with Sterling and a criminal theme, but soon learned it centered literally around the hotel and that there was no central plot. Kind of like Enter The Void, where there is no central plot. Enjoyed it but some plot holes towards the end left m hanging.
I really love this underrated movie
This movie felt like being dropped into the middle of a story and I completely agree with what you said about “running at half-steam”
I felt the same way. So many scenes did not feel complete. But the performances and hotel itself were great.
When I saw the trailer I thought, this concept could totally fit in the Continental John Wick world.
I completley agree with everything you said, just not there...it honestly felt like the director watched john wick and said lets make a movie out of the hotel scene in it
Cool review!!! Okay how do make a film that has multi main characters works within the running times of ... let’s say 120 minuets ? Good ones like “Seven Samurai”, “Short Cuts”, or “Magnolia” has what it takes to become the convincing piece. QT was very good at this in “Reservoir Dogs” which having them seemingly just talking, but each containing the representations of inner character. But most importantly it takes care of showing “character” within the few minutes. Do you think ppl in the industry ain’t that smart as they were used to be. I read the article that Jane Campion talking about all smart ppl gone to the TV area that give breathing pace to its creativity. Do you agree ?
I agree. There’s so many developments that could’ve been executed better that you walk away impressed by the cast and their chemistry with one another, but also underwhelmed by where the film eventually ends up taking you. If this were a 2 hour movie that allowed more time for the characters to reach their full potential, we’d have a real under the radar gem on our hands.
Will you be doing A Star is Born? Please do!
The basic idea seems like Chow Yun Fat's Hong Kong movie Peace Hotel made in 1995, not sure you may find out in America market...
Goddamnit I wanna see this movie, but the advertisements for it started pretty late and only picked up like a month before its release, I didn’t even know it was out yet
This movie/hospital needs to have a part in another
movie. I like the idea, but maybe it should have gotten a build up from being
in a few scenes in another movie and this movie is the spin off. And, yes get
some cameos (easter eggs) from other universes/characters.
I thought hotel Artemis was a ok movie 🎥🍿👌
why is there a oceans eleven blu-ray in the background?
Chris, you are the ONLY critic that I respect because of how unbiased you are. With that being said, I’m gonna pass on this film. I was really hoping that it would, if nothing more, live up to the amazing cast but clearly it doesn’t.
I’ll spend my money on Hereditary this weekend.
Thank you for taking the time to do all of these reviews while balancing school and life.
The cast has me hyped so I’ll check it out for myself
I was just checking hotel Artemis showtimes then I got this notification
Chris PLEASE watch this documentary from 2008, its called: "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father". I is the best documentary i have ever seen. Intimate, passionate and just and absolute must see. It is the first film ever to bring me to tears. I promise you wont regret it
Chris u are so awesome! Keep rocking bro
I liked this movie. I Wanted to see Sofia Boutella as Elektra and we pretty much got that in this movie lol.
Completely agree! Pretty much everything you said I thought during the movie. 4/9 for me.
Cool review Chris.
2 videos in one day nice
Someone explain to me why they sat there talking at the end when they all had the opportunity to escape? The Wolf King's son was trying to get in to the place. They would have been gone by the time The King's men broke through the wall. Did I miss something?
So how many stars is this hotel?
Chris can you Hilarocity reviews of The Last Airbender, Super Mario Bros movie and Oogieloves In The Big Ballon Adventure.
Have you ever thought about giving a letter rating to different categories? Most of the time, I single letter falls short of how I feel about a movie. I might adore the visual aspects and not enjoy the story as much, but still watch it just for those visuals.
why would anyone thumbs down, whats the point. good review
I'm glad Dave is getting better roles through his acting career.
ebay / link those t-shirts you wear, amazing.
I really liked this movie. Unlike the opinion of others, I like the action, some of the other characters show a connection, not only the nurse and orderly, but shows a subtle connection between the older brother to his love interest, an assassin who works international as well as US being kept apart because of his screw up brother and 2 of the screw ups bringing more trouble to everyone. It also over time shows how the Wolf King( who is the owner of the HOTEL and the whole city, like a mob boss) found the nurse and with the exception of the arms dealer that all of the characters are connected together in one way or another. Even the cop has a connection to the nurse. It doesn't have to be spelled out to the people, you have to look closer and pay attention to see how the stories and people connect to one and other. Sure there's a few characters that are thrown in that are distracting from over all story but it's a good story if you look closely at the whole thing.
About to watch it now.
Saw Hotel Artemis this weekend. Saw it twice actually. Enjoyed it the first time and wanted to see it again since if I find myself getting bored on a second viewing. I know where a movie's flaw is, and this didn't happen. My buddy with me on my second viewing said of the rioting going on outside, "Those are water-riots.' Ah, I thought. That means the rioting was not outside the movie's theme. Normal people are now restoring to violence but the crooks staying at The Hotel Artemis have to behave themselves. Or at least are supposed to. The irony is massive. Also, the movie is 94 min and was paced like a wham-bam paperback crime thriller.
Honestly, i want a movie about those riots and the story behind that. Seemed interesting
Saw this on monday, and the movie was enjoyable but needed alot more storyline. Ultimately I did struggle from the beggining to figure out what the movie was going to be about, and towards the end i felt somewhat dissapointed. Overall It was defintely worth the watch it has an original "vibe" going.
They built it up so much then towards the end we never know what happens to some of the characters and it doesn’t go out with a bang, well to say the least the beginning hype is was better then the end
like that shirt. great review.
Can you please review A Dark Song?
So that’s it huh, we’re some kind of Hotel Artemis!!!
Pff. "Near-future" Los Angeles.
MariktheGunslinger like A Scanner Darkly; Seven years from "now." Now being the say you hit the play button. 2007? The movie is in 2014. 2018? The movie takes place in 2025. It's not a bad choice.
That is smart, actually. I was just making a veiled, non-specific political joke.
Was this movie ever at the movies?
A movie does not need a sympathetic or likeable character to be good. If the intention is to give a sympathetic character and it fails, that's different. You can have a great film with great writing, directing, cinematography, score and acting with out a likable character or sympathetic character, especially if that's the point or the intention. You can also have a well written character without the need to be liked as a person or sympathetic.
It all depends on the writers, directors, and the acting.
Just in case you didn't know there's a samurai cop sequel. If you haven't seen it do u think you'd watch it and make a review?
Chick Flick John Wick- Loved It! I laughed, I cried. Some things were more fleshed out than others, but all in it was a really good movie. 8+
Agreed. Doesn't quite ever get out of second gear
I watched this movie last night and I personally liked it, cause it was really clever, but he is right here we’re just so many missed opportunities
You should do "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas "
He didn't say that the riot was over water..
Brian Tyree Henry 🔥
I enjoyed this movie. Loved the characters.
Great Video Man, I’m trying to become a Movie Reviewer Myself and have a few videos on my channel
