We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version czcams.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
"I do like their packaging."
Flings the box across the room.
Classic :)
hahaha came here to say exactly this. that was hysterical
He regularly throw stuff. He throws his beer can later in the vid. I find it annoying as hell. I don't get it. Is it is signature move? Is he trying to show his power and manliness? Does he get some weird enjoyment out of it? That he just doesn't care? I wouldn't use his firm because of it. I'm a very logic driven person and throw something on the floor/ground with no discernable purpose to only then have to go pick up seems more than pointless. It's adding unnecessary complication. I wonder how you choose what to throw?
Another well-planned and executed review video from Crosstalk Solutions of a Ubiquiti product. CS always provides reviews that are easy to follow and understand, useful, well-paced, and complete. Thanks from here on another really useful and clear review video.
Thanks! Though ‘well planned’ is a bit of an overstatement.
@@CrosstalkSolutions 3:34 "802.3af or 802.3at POE" Is there a reason that they list the two types versus just 802.3af? I am new to POE but I assume 802.3af is compatible with all higher output standards? Is there something to gain by using 802.3at with this device?
Confirmed, it does work with Unifi Video, I have one set up on a client's set up. Have to be on version 3.10.7 or higher I think. I added no problem on version .8
Side Note: The LED features do not work, it simply does white for unmanaged and blue for managed, it does not do the rotating for motion or record indicator. You do get the zoom function and obviously the better picture. A rotating light wasn't a deal breaker.
is the Unifi Video the UVC-NVR-2TB ?
@@dereksantomo Unifi Video is the software that can be installed on your own hardware, available in windows and Iinux.
@@AndyHernandez18 do you know if these will work on the UVC-NVR ?
That was a nice bird feeder too. Bad bear!
I loved the sultry music while you were cracking that brewski. Great video.
Eyyyy Oregon! Didn't know you were local bro! Your videos pretty much saved our little cannabis farm. OLCC wanted so much surveillance, and kept recommending these cloud camera solutions. No chance, as we're so rural that we can't get a cable company to run line. You introduced me to unifi and now we're totally in spec.
We even found an RV/Rural ISP to provide a modem on our dream machine. I have a Unifi building bridge on it's way to expand coverage to a new storage building and we're super stoked.
Keep it up man, you do a lot of good. :)
I am quite surprised that this top end camera is still H.264 while H.265 has been around for years.
Drifter same here !
That would be THE reason why I would not buy it even if I can affoard it.
Probably has to do with the H.265 licensing fees.
because there is no native support from the web browsers ! Check out caniuse.com/#feat=hevc
Otherwise you would need to install plugins and what not. License 265 for you plugin etc etc etc
The camera is surely capable to encode into H265 it is saved for a later day I suppose.
> Reviews 4K camera
> Does it in a 1080p video
👌👍
I've had this camera for months now. Awesome quality! I just wish Ubiquiti would make a more robust DVR that could handle more than 10 of these 4K cameras at once. I love the Protect interface/software though.
Yea! Not sure what the heck they are doing but it's pretty stupid.
Damn..what kind of home you have that requires more than 10 cameras..my guess its not in a city. I live in Chicago so 4 is more than I will ever need
@@rhdtv2002 that's not the point. The point is that these cameras are bandwidth hogs and the little laptop drive does not catch up. Some people have custom hardware but ubiquiti pretty much no longer develop unifi video and now are focusing on unifi protect, which lacks features and the ability to run on custom hardware.
@@davidg4512 so its probably better to get something like a Lorex then.
Rich Lo It’s a business, not a home 😀
Chris - FANTASTIC video - you tube warriors never realise just how much work goes into these - you do an amazing job - so from me - Thank you so much. FACTOID every minute in run time = equals an hour in effort - don't believe me - go try it.....
Thanks so much for this review. It's helping me further make my decision between a four camera Ubiquiti or Reolink 4k system. So far, $470 seems a lot better than $2000.
I started researching this camera, but over at the UniFi community forums there are a lot of complaints about the lens fogging up on the inside. There is condensation even on brand-new devices after being powered on indoors after a couple hours.
I admit that I laughed when the bear stole your bird feeder. Nice backyard!
I think you could have gone full optical zoom if you manually adjusted the focus. Auto focus falls down in low light situations. So, if you had a fixed-point you wanted to keep an eye on, you could set your focal plane manually.
I agree with Chris that 1080p is sufficient, but only if the camera itself has at least 4MP, 1080p starts with 2MP and the images of those cameras are not quite good. If you keep in mind that enterprise cameras like the ones from Mobotix used to have 5MP and now "only" have 6MP you somehow can't argue with a need for 4k in most cases
Could you add a test comparing the G4 to the G3 with the IR extender added? It seems the main night difference was the IR output. Even with the IR extender, the G3 is still around $200. So wiild be a more fair comparison and would help see if the extra price for the G4 is worth it.
I've tested that exact setup and it's still not even close. The G4 is just light years better than the G3 at night even if you add the IR accessory and for that matter a separate IR illuminator.
I’ve been using the G3 IR extender for 2.5 yrs now and the G3 is useless without it. Also, the “enhanced mode” zoom is fantastic but I’m usually unzoomed.
Im sold, just gotta save me pennies. Ready to get out of the NEST ecosystem. I think i may get one of each. Pro for the front and the other for the back. BUT my question I would like to know what brew that was you are drinking. Digging that can art.
Is optical zoom only during running the camera or even with the data stored in the dvr?
Great video made even better when Yogi bear stole the bird feeder (I'm sorry about that thought) 😂. Speaking as a Ubiquiti fan, I can't help but wonder why they price themselves so high with their cameras especially when you can buy 4k surveillance cameras with audio for $50 ~ $100 from Reolink, Amcrest, Dahua and others. They are out-Appleing Apple!
I've got two of the StarLight Dahua camers, I don't even turn on the IR any more! One of them is a zoom, a useless feature I swear. Size the lens right instead and save the cash. Need to swap out some of the others for StarLight cameras now. I do have a Ubiquity camera inside, can't beat the looks and size. It's been rock solid with BluIris.

I live in Wisconsin so I'll have to bring it in for winter...
Great video but my issue is car traffic and setting up the G4 Pro so it can clearly see vehicles with their headlights and taillights glaring that ruin video clarity. It would be great for you to attempt a night vision CZcams to address this issue.
Your issue isnt the camera its you and trying to do what the camera was no meant to do hence why there are plate reading cameras.
I hope it works with unifi video. Protect is crap if you have many cameras, hardware just cannot handle it. Its fine for small installs, for big installs tho we need to be able to install protect on real hardware.
Saw that camera at London Heathrow in the Security Check Area. Perfect scenario for this
Purchased the G4 Pro and the G3 Pro for a project that required very high quality video to read a handwritten white board. Unfortunately neither camera was able fill the bill. The writing was just too small. But, that gave me alot of opportunity to review them side by side and compare. My conclusion was that although the G4 was a somewhat better quality picture than the G3 Pro I did not feel it was worth the extra money for my average circumstances.
This make the case for additional IR lights mounted up on ones eves. They could also be controller by motion detectors or just turned on at night. Since they would be mounted further from the camera and aimed toward the further distances they would no over illuminate the close in view.
Great video as always. What would be even better is a video on how to deploy various cameras on various sites talking to one (1) single unifi protect controller. Same thing with Unifi controller, when deploying mesh networks to multiple site, with only 1 single Unif controller. THANK YOU!
Amazing Camera... Wow... But way overpriced... Who's gonna pay $800 (Australian) per camera, that's pretty steep.
Agreed, as I consider putting cameras on our new house this camera itself is what has me rethinking even continuing to use Ubiquiti for anything in the future.
perfect review thanks, G4 pro looks awesome im gonna get one
Great shirt and even better video!
I like the weather channel sex music when you're drinking your beer outside haha.
Perhaps a licenses plate might have been a good demo as well as having the video in actual 4k.
Willing to do one more test? does the G4 just have stronger IR lights? basically see if the G3 records any better at night when the G4 is on.
If you want really good night performance in low light look at the Dahua cameras with StarLight. In low light I get full color with a couple of those and some folks have even gotten star trails with them pointing at the sky!
the bigger lens should help alot as well..
ahaha damn the bear stealing the bird feeder was the best!!
What are you selling instead of protect cameras?
...what he asked
Same question. I sure would like to know what Crosstalk now recommends.
I think you misunderstood. He has stopped selling installations with Unifi Video as the controller, and only had Unifi Protect at home so he can't test it (without setting some up again).
So he hasn't switched away from Unifi products, he just uses Protect as the controller.
Edit: okay I see how it could be heard as not selling Unifi for camera installations.
subwarpspeed yeah, I was coming from the thought that his customers will still be needing camera solutions even though protect might not meet the requirements. If that’s the case, what is he now recommending? Also, if he’s using a different recording solution would it even work with Ubiquiti cameras?
@@1Corinthians15v1-4 well Unifi cameras can be run standalone and stream RTSP but that won't be a 'solution'. One doesn't buy Unifi cameras for a great image quality for their price...
Their old video stuff is great, we have about 36 cameras around our school as our security and works perfectly. But protect without giving us bigger hard drives, that many cameras will eat up a single hard drive space. Particularly an SSD that you would really need to put in for this camera. (Not to mention the cost would go up.) We need A.) The ability to chain all these CloudGen2's into a single interface where we can watch all the live streams at once and view recordins easily without worrying where the data is coming from, this would at least allow us to have multiple ones and treat them as a single unit. Or B.) Give us the ability to create our own hardware, or bring out a Pro version that is actually Professional. They throw the word Enterprise around a little but their new bigger one still only has 1 hard drive. It needs minimum 4 and be able to run 50 cameras minimum.
Ubiquiti should ship a packet of desiccant within the G4-Pro box. Fog on the inside of the lens happens on the G4 Pro.
Great video as usual, but no way in hell I would spend over $400 on that camera.. :)
13:52 NOw I need a drink | you got me with this shot n music :D
Reading reviews on amazon, many are complaining about fogging on the lens . We’re not talking a single review but numerous issues with the same problem. I was interested till I read that ,but not understanding why it’s happening on this model and if there’s been a fix ?
has not been fix. I just installed a new one 48 hours ago and the condensation is still present.
This quality is amazing, maybe you should start filming with the g4 Pro instead of the one you use now
Love to see the G3 pro vs G4 Pro in the future! Also If they allowed 1080p 30 or 1080p 24 recording on the G4 Pro it would be the best... But good comparison the standard G3 doesn't look like it will capture anything at night and is more blurry the G4 pro in the daytime... I know which one I'll avoid buying
My man's got cameras filming his cameras
Still waiting for UBNT to release a PTZ with 10X+ zoom!
Here ya go! store.ui.com/collections/early-access/products/unifi-protect-g4-ptz-beta
Just to confirm, the optical zoom doesn't help if you are viewing a recording, correct? It would have had to been zoomed in in real time for you to get any benefit I assume.
I find Uniview and Hikvision to be light years ahead of Uniquiti in terms of quality and smart functionality.
Also 24fps for that price is laughable.
I love Ubiquity products but their cameras are too expensive for my use. I have 16 Hikvision 4k H265 cameras that cost around $120.00 on an Intel computer running Sighthound. Awesome quality video and i can add even more cameras. Ubiquity's prices for their products can't be beat; except for the cameras.
Do they have mics too?
@@stevebbkny2394 The cameras I purchased don't have mics but I believe you can purchase ones that do.
Agreed. Even reolink has incredibly sharp 4k cameras for $80 a piece.
grr what is Ubiquiti doing with the NVR..seems to made a lot of people mad with the Protect crap.
UBNT wants to be Google Nest without the cloud hosting. They don't want to openly say that...
1440p setting would be awesome
Not sure it would matter but I noticed when you did the night vision comparisons the G3 was in 720 still & the G4 was changed to 4k, not the defaulting 720. Why not change that G3 to 1080 and show that??
My g4 pro has stopped being detected online. Only the backlight diodes are lit. It does not respond to the reset button. Tell me what can be done?
My preference would be - 4k camera for the driveway, 1k cameras for around the house. But the 4k camera is way overpriced. Great review!
I'm wondering whats the point of that optical 3x if you can only use it in real-time? Who's sitting and watching their camera live stream all day long? All I care about is whether I can look at my motion recording that happened 2 hours ago, zoom in and see whats up there.
Why this G4 Pro doesn’t have the “Lens correction” in the settings like G3 ?
What does a Multi Site Live view look like in Cloud Access Page?
Chris, did I see bear bells on your feet? How about license plates, with measured markers at 10 feet interval. Great job. I can tell the difference. What about storage?
for nightvision we use IR floodlights that work really well with the G3 at a distance of 40 metres (130feet). So is the issue with the G3 the IR LED output in reality?
Simon Madeley What are you using for your IR flood?
Nice shirt!
Do you recommend the g4 pro now or have you found a better alternative. I am looking to purchase 4 cameras and from your review the g4 pros seems to be the way to go .
Interesting that the IR on the G4 is so bright it blows out the contrast when your face gets close. Do you know if you can turn off the LED on the face so it's a little more stealthy?
That beer has beautiful IPA color!
Hi Chris have you heard any news regarding the second USB C port on the CK Gen2 Plus? Would love to be able to offload footage onto external an drive
Any condensation between the lens cover and the lens?
I love Ubiquiti cameras but the one thing that really lets it down for me is live view latency. We use 6xG3's at our office but even with a dedicated PC just running Chrome that views the Cameras over the LAN we get a 2-3 second delay between people moving and then the camera screen reflecting that. I really wish Ubiquiti stepped it up in that department.
So what do you recommend we use now
Great video! Please is it possible to stand camera G4 Pro on a high cabinet? what is the minimum angle between the body of the camera and a flat surface? thanks for answer
Do you think there is a less of a difference between the G3-Pro and this camera? Is the G3-Pro a bit better?
This Camera is way overpriced, H264 in 2019, Sensor is old gen, optical zoom is okay, however you can 5x for less with motion AIS, so if window or on a post it removes the camera shake, does this camera have internal battery backup... Probably No it is huge & really should be better for nearly £500. Ubiquiti possibly getting to big for their boots, retailers hiking the prices again... Shame moving on
I tend to agree - what would you recommend instead?
@@willbennett1949 I 100% agree, too. This makes the Reolink 4k camera kits a way better option. I am torn.
On the app I can’t move the camera angle after I turned on the optical zoom. What am I doing wrong? I can’t imagine the optical zoom only works on one fixed plane
Hi Chris. My G4 Pro that I connected has a green blinking LED ring. Any ideas what that may be?
The downside is this cam has no wifi support. What do you think is a good solution for an outdoor setup with no network cable?
Hi, is it possible for the LED not lit up when recording for more stealth?
Do you have a review of the UVC-G4-BULLET? Especially compared to the G4-PRO.
Thanks for the great, informative videos! Question....I have a UniFi setup...USG, CloudKey, etc. Thinking of purchasing the CKG2Plus and start using UniFi Protect cameras. What options are there to use these cameras where I have access to power, but not ethernet. Read that airGateways are EOL. Can I use a Nanostation AC to connect to my WiFi in bridge mode and connect camera to its PoE port? Is there a better solution? TIA.
Another great video, thank you. Love the channel, love Ubiquiti networking products, but they really need to be more competitive with their cameras. Understand this is the top end, but even at $79 per camera they are getting left behind compared to other feature equivalent competitors. And don't even get me started on Protect...
Is it possible to use Qnap Surveillance Station with this Camera for example or only the UniFi Protect?
But is it IP 67 dust and weatherproof? ;)
Like the way, you used technology to make the top of the box disappear (1:06).

Hi Chris,
how can i digital zoom in ? with which shortcut ?
Can this camera zoom in enough to read a license plate? And roughly at what distance?
Great demo....tks
Anyway you could also do a Flex vs G4 Pro? Curious if that level is even more dramatic.
@
Crosstalk Solutions i tested the G4-Pro running on Unifi Video. currently on version 3.10.8. Can't say about how far back it is compatible, but i updated once or twice since i first tested it.
Instructive video, but I'm curious just how much video a Dream Machine Pro with 8TB hard drive can store?
I just got my new G4 Pro and put it outside the house. Then in one hour condensaiton occurs on the internal surface of the first glass lens on the G4 Pro!! This G4 pro have been manufactured 3/15/2020 in Vietnam. I just checked topics relevant to the condensation issues in the UI community and found that the condensation issues have be reported earliest from 10 months ago!!! What the hell this manufacturing issue has not been fixed at all almost 1 year after?? What do you say?
I had condensation with my G3 Pro, but I haven’t had the same issue with either of my G4 Pros.
you provided a video comparing a 1080P camera to a 4K camera, but only uploaded in 1080P... see the problem here?
Yea - exactly as I said in the video...it’s not gonna come through on CZcams.
You should do Unifi Cloudkey G2 Let's Encrypt for all the controllers: Unifi, Protect and CK! That would be awesome.
This may not pertain to this exact video. What are your thoughts on the new Dream machine plus a NAS vs a usg/cloud key setup. Home setup.
Thank you for you are helping kindly link the software that you use for any equipment
Great video Chris, but they can keep it for that price. Outdated sensor and H.264? Really?
Does the G4 (nonPro) also have smart detection?
Would be fun to compare G3-pro at night and the g4-pro.
This is a real dilemma for me.. I am all UniFi with APs, UDMP, pro 24 poe switch. I love having ease of management all in one place but wow their cameras are pricey for they provide. I am considering blue iris or synology. 449 for a single 4K security camera. They need to lower price and come out with a g4 flex. Just so pricey.
Same boat here, what did you eventually choose?
@@Nilsje I ended up going with their cameras. Slowly buying them when they came in stock. I use the UniFi protect to monitor them as does rest of family. Overall I am happy just cause it’s simpler but I won’t lie the penny pincher in me hated paying that much but no more nest subscriptions to deal with. I have a varying array of their cameras: g3s for inside, g4 bullets, doorbell camera and g3 flex. Overall I haven’t had any issues and the app works well for us as well as ease of administration for me. The other route I mentioned will definitely get you better cameras but it could mean more hands on tweaking.
How many cameras can the protect system handle?
