  • Painting realistic flowers doesn’t have to mean they're photographic or hyper-realistic. Sometimes, the impression of detail when you’re painting landscapes is far more effective. Here’s a tutorial on how I paint bluebonnets. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions!

Thank you Layne, I am glad that I have found you. It is a late spring here in Cymru but we had a lovely walk in a Bluebell wood this week.

First time to watch, and it is extremely helpful! (Love the thunder) I have found bluebonnets challenging and elusive, but maybe watching your tutorials will smooth that out for me! Thank you for sharing your talent and easy-to-watch video!

Can you tell us about the brush you're using to block in the bluebonnets? Looks like a bright you may have altered?

Hi Layne, could you tell us which brand and style of brushes you used to apply the blue, and then the grey/white highlights on the bluebonnets with?Thank you

You're right, the one I used to block in looks like a bright to me as well (it doesn't actually say on the brush). But no, I haven't altered it, it's just old and well used!

The one I used to block in looks like a bright to me as well (it doesn't actually say on the brush). The one I used to paint the highlights is an old, well-used round. (Probably something cheap.)

Take away the Blue bonnets and it looks like my home state of Tennessee.

That's so true for a lot of places! We were in Spain earlier this year and it was amazing how much of the countryside reminded us of the Texas Hill Country (central Texas).
