  • Here's a step-by-step guide for mixing my favorite color for painting clouds (or really any landscape) - Cassel Earth. Here's how you can mix this color for yourself. It's the one color that's ALWAYS on my palette. Plus an extra bonus paint mixing tip.

Since I signed up in your Painting Dramatic Clouds lesson, I have been a great fan of Lucas Cassel Earth. I love to paint landscapes, and this color is fantastic for shadows especially mixed with Ultramarine Blue. Dark areas on trees, Great for adding depth in distant hills. I always have a couple of unused tubes ready to go.

Amazing lesson. I will practice my color mixing this way from now on. Coloring mixing has always been a weakness of mine. I am self taught so this will be a game changer.
    Thank you

Here on video seems slot like burnt umber, is that a closer match when we don't have the cassel earth?

No, it's not the same as burnt umber. It's closer to Van Dyke Brown. But the brand I like (LUKAS) is more purple than the typical Van Dyke or Cassel Earth.

wondering why when you mix white with that van dyke BROWN, that be purple but not sandy or earthy color ?

Great question. It's just a unique property of LUKAS' brand of Cassel Earth. I haven't found it with any other brand - but it's one of my favorite colors, especially for painting clouds and shadows.
