    I am pleased to say that my cloned Ken Onion sharpener has arrived and I have had a chance to test it. Mine arrived in 240VAC with a UK plug, which saved me getting a transformer. It sharpened my knife very quickly and is razor sharp. The point about this being a clone Ken Onion, he will NOT lose out on the sale, as I would never have bought his version, due to affordability. He did NOT lose a customer.

      Same super overpriced in Germany it's like 200$ would never buy a fucking cheap electrical motor and some plastic for that price wtf are those american idiots thinking? And the belts are overpriced too. I can get the copy with 100% same functionality and belts for a life time (nearly 100) for 140 bucks.

    Hi Steve..
    If that power supply ever Jacks in then just run it off a centre tapped site transformer (yellow box).👍

    Thank you Steve for this information. Also, over here in the states what looks like a comparable machine is available on Amazon for about $ 60.00 . That one is called a Work Sharp, but it doesn't seem to have the support rollers. Not sure how important that difference is. But Thanks again for the video :-)

      Actually no, in the U.S. the $69 original work sharp is not the same sharpener as this one. This is supposedly like the ken onion ($120 or so) which has a 3/4" width belt instead of 1/2" so they'll last longer per belt with 1.5 times the grinding surface. Also the ken onion is has various whole head attachments you can get which I'm wandering if this copy will also allow the attachments like the ken onion blade grinding attachment that uses even bigger belts. The ken onion can use the regular 1/2" width or the 3/4" width either one.

    Is the knife angle guide removable like the ken onion? Also wandering if these are the same 3/4" width and 12" length belts like the ken onions. Also is the whole rotating head removable as well and possibly able to attach a different ken onion attachment. Thanks

    Do you know if the work sharp original belts fits on it?

    How much of a clone/doppelganger is this copy- ie will the Ken Onion blade grinding attachment, fit onto it & work?

    With the method you are using, you are sharpening one side of the knife with the paper traveling down and the other side of the knife with the paper traveling up. I would think for consistency you would want both sides to be sharpened from the same direction.

    Steve, I have the opposite problem here in the states. Accidentally ordered a Banggood drill that’s UK current instead of US 110. Any suggestions from you on which Banggood converter would be best for me to buy. You seem to know their products really well.

    Checked it out and it is WAAAAAY over-priced, on Amazon Prime the original work-sharp costs 69.95$(us) and the Ken Onion Limited Edition costs 119.99$(us)...

    Why are you promoting a blatant copy of a current product?

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  Před 5 lety

      There are loads of different versions of this type of tool now, like with nearly every tool you buy these days. If there was an issue with copyright I'm sure the main auction websites etc wouldn't allow them to be advertised on their sites like they do.

    • @markfogleman8438
      @markfogleman8438 Před 5 lety +2

      @@SteveJordan There may be different versions but not exact copies which also are labeled with the same name. I have no idea who Ken Onion is, or care for that matter, but I'm sure he did not add his name and consultation to the original product for free. The main Chinese sales sites have no incentive (or ethics for that matter) to prevent this unless lawyers get involved for each infraction. Promoting such products makes you look bad.

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  Před 5 lety +1

      @@markfogleman8438 I'm pretty sure Ken Onion sold his idea to the Chinese manufactures, but never the less if there isn't a copyright or a patent on a tool name there isn't any problem. These tools and variations of the tool design are being sold on Ebay under the 'Ken Onion' name and are not removed for any copyright infringement. Ebay would be the first to remove such a thing.
      I looked at all this before mentioning his name and judging by the way the various sharpeners are advertised I would calculate that he doesn't care for a product that he sold off. In fact if he has any shares in the work-sharp version of the product he maybe really pleased with all the advertising of his name. People generally look at different versions of tools then try and buy the best one they can afford.

    your "razor sharp" look like a bad kitchen sharp 😅. You are not supposed to go back and forth. You should use more different grit paper, and not many pass, 5 left 5 right you change the paper and you do the same thing etc...

      That did make me laugh. Yes I was probably doing it wrong. I got rid of mine in the end as I didn't get on with it. I bought the Ruixin Pro knife sharpener. I did a review on it. It is an amazing piece of kit. Regards Steve

      @@SteveJordan i check it, but it seems to be a bit tricky, how can you know the degree of the sharpening process ?

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  Před 3 lety

      You can use a permanent marker pen to color the cutting edges. Set it by eye as near as you can on the bevel. Then test the set up. Then check the area to see where the marker pen has rubbed off. Then re adjust to suit.
