    Got a ton of suggestions to check out Benji Marshall after I reacted to Shaun Johnson's best moments: • HOCKEY FAN REACTS: Sha...
    Awesome video. Could really tell why you all suggested Benji. Lots of amazing plays and such, very similar to Johnson stylistically. Really cool to see that Benji won a premiership, which Shaun is lacking as of now. Curious about Benji's coaching career though. I touched on it towards the end of the video but what are your guys thoughts? Is the situation with the Tigers sort of his fault or is he just not in a position to succeed for other reasons (money, bad owners, etc? Let me know Wests fans.

    Sonny Bill Williams is probably the most high profile one because he went from league to union to league to union and back to league,and he was exceptional in both, having a super successful career in both.
    Playing 128 NRL games and representing the Kiwis 12x and playing 111 first grade rugby games and representing the all blacks in 58 test matches, so SBW probably the best who could seamlessly interchange between the codes at the highest level and be more than just a bench or interchange player, another great who excelled in both codes is Brad Thorn(but his representative career plays out a bit different) playing 200 nrl games for the Brisbane broncos,10 state of origin matches for Queensland, and 3tests representing Australia, his rugby union career consisted of over 100 super rugby matches for highlanders and crusaders, and representing new zealand in 58 test matches. And 1 other notable mention, the only man to reach the top level in 3 codes is Israel folau,playing over 90 NRL games,representing Queensland in 5 state of origin matches and the Australian kangaroos in 8 test matches,before a brief career in the AFL playing 13 games for greater western Sydney, before taking up a rugby career where he played 96 super rugby games for the waratahs and playing 73test matches for the Australian Wallabie where he is tye all time leading try scorer in wallabies history, those are probably the ones with the highest accolades Israel was exceptional in union and league,but didn't live up to expectation, honorable mentions- to Wendell sailor,Lote Taquiri, Marc Ellis. And many failed attempts at cross over Benji Marshall and Sam Burgess being the most high profile ones, roger tuivasa sheck made it to the top in union playing a few games for the All Blacks,but never quite cemented himself or had the impact he had in union,and was definitely getting pushed down the pecking order in his union career

      Sonny Bill Williams has World Cup wins in Both League and Union, He was part of that 2008 rugby league world cup right? He was not out injured? I remember him scoring that last Try in the Final of the 2015 world cup final.

      Also Don't Forget Brad Thorn, He was a Rugby Union Great, he Won a World Cup for the All Blacks, So he played international rugby union for NZ for years, and He also Played Rugby League for Australia he was a Kangaroo, and I am not sure he might be another one who has Won Both a Rugby Union World Cup 2011 and a Rugby League World Cup 2000.

    Nice one. I really like this tribute to Benji, though I wish it showed more of his dummy passes. Because he could run, pass and kick guys used to bite on his fakes so bad.
    When it comes to the coaching, I think a lot of flair players especially find it difficult to pass on their ideas. It's often the more average players, who had to work really hard to have a long career, that make the better coaches. Of course there are exceptions to that, but its generally true in most sports..
    As a totally unrelated suggestion, since it's Paddy's Day tomorrow, was wondering if you have done any reactions to Hurling? With a name like Eamonn I'm guessing you have connections :)

      @EamonnReacts  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Ah ok yeah that makes sense. Same situation in hockey where the lower end players seem to make the best coaches.
      I actually don't have any connections to Ireland haha. My mom visited when she was young and really liked the name. No actual family connection or anything. I have hurling on the list. Not sure how soon I'd be getting to it though.

    Benji was famous for his side step (Juke as a North American/Canadian). He was inspired by a touch football player named Remus Gentiles. His footwork was next level. There is one video of him on youtube but that just scratches the surface.

    You need to check out Warriors v Storm and Cowboys v knights. Best games of the round, down to the wire and 1 went to extra time!
    The Tigers are bad because no good player wants to play for a team coming last, and the only way to get good recruits is by overpaying for players, which ruins the teams salary cap and prevents the tigers from having a good spread of experience and new players in their team. For any team trying to come off the bottom of the latter it isn't easy. Benji status may attract talent, but I'm doubtful they'll improve my much or at all

  • @Hedriks

    Because the game style is close between union and league, you'll find players switching between either codes. And yes many have switched. Some do go back because they find it hard adapting. One of the guys in that Tigers team (he looks like he has dreads) Tukere, used to play for the Wallabies.
    Sonny Bill Williams used to play for Bulldogs, and Roosters.... ended his career playing for NZ All-Blacks. Funnily, he was playing both codes at once, very strange, but I think it was due to contracts. Coaches weren't willing to let him go.

    Benji started 8 years before Shaun. Almost all players try an imitate Benji these days, no look passes and the step.

    Thought I'd explain what was happening when that defender dived and looked like he didn't get close, it's called an ankle tap, a last ditch effort when you've been beat, the idea is to slap the players heel so they trip over their own feet and fall over.

  • @artetaDagoat

  • @Deltaman0306
    @Deltaman0306 Před 4 měsíci

    7:58 that guys trying to pull off an "ankle tap". He'll swing his arm hoping to hit one of benji's feet, which will cause his legs to cross over each other, which then causes him to trip himself.
    So many tries have been saved by players using this last ditch effort.

    More tend to switch from League to Union, rather than the other way around, and come back to league.
    Main reason is that League is more physically demanding, and I'd argue, pound for pound that league produces a higher standard of athlete (fitness wise) who can adapt (adjust down) to the rigours of union, rather than union players being able to keep up with the pace of league. Back in the day, some came from union to league and did okay, however in the NRL era this is unlikely,
    Because union has more of a worldwide presence, the paypacket for a middling league player is much higher as union can pay more (also limited by things like NRL salary cap.) This is prevalent in all pacific islands, NZ, Eng and Australia. I'm sure in other countries where RU dominates with little to no league presence, many people come from RU to League.
    This was a huge focus in the 2000s with Aus Rugby union raiding league, players to start the trend include Wendell Sailor, Lote Tuquiri, Mat Rogers, Israel Folau, Karmichael Hunt, Sonny Bill Williams, brad thorn, Sam Burgess, Andy Fowler, and the list continues.

    Yeha benji is my favourite player. Tigers have won two spoons in a row but those are the only spoons we’ve won. Tigers are bad because we can’t retain players. You could nearly make an origin team with all the players we couldn’t keep. There’s been buzz around the club tho, lots of new talent and signings, on paper the club should be on the up but people thought that last year and we ended coming last. So far not a great start to the season but the raiders are a bad match up for the tigers. Didn’t look good in that game tho. 😢 might be another spoon 🥄 this season, finish off the legend spoon-peat

    • @EamonnReacts

      Is there a reason for them not being able to retain players specifically? Or just have been unlucky? Spoon-peat haha.

      @@EamonnReacts bad upper management, not great results. Tigers aren’t a club that people would want to play for. I’d say like an Orlando magic rather than the Celtics. Can’t be too angry at the players cause all their careers improved as soon as they left so maybe that’s why. When the tigers are playing good they are so fun to watch but the other 95% of the time I want to headbutt the tv. They’re not good enough to pressure teams, or play a field position game of attrition so they should focus on ball movement and attacking benji footy. I think if they did that they’d be more successful.
