    Always an uneasy feeling when the clock is running but the first answer won't come. It must be even worse when you are live-solving for CZcams! Well done for another great solve.

    Using 'girl' or 'boy' to clue a name is so tedious now. There are hundreds of options, so it's not really a clue at all and you always have to work out what the name was after solving the clue another way.

      I titled the blog for this puzzle What's In A Name? I knew a lot of solvers wouldn't like this.

    Charity Pecksniff from Martin Chuzzlewit, has a sister call Mercy Pecksniff, so Charity, is ‘the sister of Mercy ‘

      And the non-band Sisters of Mercy are an almost 200 year old religious institution (for women) that set up health *and education* facilities around the world.

      @@phyphor Thanks, both of these meanings dawned on me soon after the solve. I think I was thrown by the band which obviously wan't relevant

    18:23 In the clue for 14 across, why was 'Young Girl Guide' all capitalized?

    • @dweebovision
      @dweebovision  Před 14 dny

      Young was capitalized because it was the first word in a sentence. Girl Guide was capitalized because the Girl Guides is an organization in the UK providing activites for girls, just as the Boy Scouts provides activities for boys

    A brutal grid with, as far as I'm concerned, far too many names clued with a gendered reference to a single person, e.g. girl, fellow.
    Congratulations on missinge your way through it!
