- Chris Broussard talks Kevin Durant after the Brooklyn Nets legacy comes in to question now that the Golden State Warriors have won an NBA Championship without him. While Broussard says another ring for KD in Brooklyn will help to restore his legacy, right now it looks like KD made a mistake leaving Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson to lead the Nets, who were out in the first round of the playoffs.

REALLY tired of these "legacy" topics of conversation.
Disagree with Broussard, most people still think that move from kd was weak.
Bc it was
And so was Lebron's to Miami and Cleveland. But we fans put such emphasis on rings the players have no choice but to jump ship. What you expect, KD spent 9 years in OKC with Russ. Lebron spent 9 years in Cleveland. Both wanted to win chips. So what are they supposed to do, just sit still and lose? Oh wait, Bird and Magic literally walked into HOF teams so they get a pass? So apparently if you don't walk into a HOF team and you're drafted by some trash team or stuck with a ball hog you're just supposed to keep missing out on rings when that's all these guys are judged on? Fans are a bunch of hypocrites with selective memory as long as it suits their argument and makes their guy look good.
@@martyg2333 smh Miami was not the best team in the league coming off a championship with a 2 time mvp. It’s very different, KD got 2 ring pops now if he step away and wins on his own measure (like bron did in Cleveland) then the narrative changes. The move to golden state was weak af
How could you know what "most people" think? Frankly...I'm tired of this entire topic of discussion, about player legacy and scrutiny that really doesn't relate to any real analysis of player performance. It's a cheap take topic these sports channels serve up as easy gets where generating vacuous commentaries that almost inevitably devolve to become pretty adolescent verbal fistfights among commentators.
@@martyg2333 huge difference between Lebrons first stint in Cleavland where his 2nd best player was Mo Williams or Zydrunas Ilgaulskis, and KD's time in OKC where he played with not 1 but 2 future league MVPs
I agree with Chris. History tells us these players regrets leaving. Shaq and Kobe. Kyrie and LBJ. And now, KD from Steph.
depends on what team he joins if he does decide to leave okc and doesn’t join golden state
Shaq and Kobe is a little interesting because both of them won titles after separating. But they could of always won more together I assume.
Chris is not right lmfao he keeps comparing apples to oranges. People would not have forgot that KD left his team to join a team that he blew a 3-1 lead to
@@MRHIMDOWNSTAIRS12 i’m harder on KD for his move there than most ppl, but honestly that loss to them before joining was never even at all what made it so outrageous… all that really mattered was how they were already one of the greatest teams of all time and still the best team in the league then
the nearly unprecedented greatness of the #2 GOAT + kyrie in those finals was just barely enough to leave them a mere 4pts short of back-to-back chips, but the cavs were not a better team and only 2 other teams in the whole league could even hope to be competitive with GSW
it’d be no different if that OKC/GSW matchup never happened, the only rule is if you’re a AAA superstar (let alone one with the potential to end up top 10 all-time) you simply CAN NOT just decide to hop over to THAT TEAM and then act all surprised and get offended when ppl say that was weak and no one finds your rings as impressive as lebron’s 🤣
Nahh chris is only half right. He right about as time goes on, people would praise kd more as the best player in the world if they continued winning
But where chris is wrong is when he referenced KD's last Playoff run with the warriors as "optics says they couldnt do it without kd" COMPLETELY WRONG. As NickWright said, KD went down then Warriors Swept WEST Finals thencomes FINALS Klay was a monster in Game 6 until he tore his acl. OPTICS From that says Warriors would've beat Toronto if KLAY didnt went down. They could still win the chip in 2019 even without KD. So the narrative of KD is just a luxury wouldve stayed Forever but People Praising KD as best player in the world wouldve continued to grow More and more.
Nick made a good point: it was too easy for Warriors to win chips in those two years and hence no one gets enough credit.
Yup. Never thought about it that way.
I agreed at the time. But also consider, if they just dominated year-after-year-after year, they'd be making history in front of our eyes as maybe the greatest dynasty ever, which ppl also like to witness.
Um no.
That means that the 1996 Bulls had it harder? Lol!
I can’t agree with that. If we’re using that logic then nobody who’s ever played on a superteam can claim they’re a champion. From the 80’s Celtics to the 90’s bulls, Shaq and Kobe Lakers, Celtics big three, Heat big three, etc etc. Let’s put an asterisk next to each of those teams in the record books then. MJ won three in a row TWICE and nobody ever mentions that it was “too easy”.
Does anyone honestly believe KD would have any rings if he never joined the warriors? He would have 0 right now.
Unless he joined Bron & Cavs. Which is pretty much the same scenario as when he joined GS. Lol
Nah if joined the rockets or spurs he would have won a ring at that time
No he a bum
@@yourstruly8898 a nobody like you calling somebody a bum is hilarious
Absolutely 0 😂😂
Why do people say that the warriors needed KD in order to beat LeBron?! No! They needed KD in order to make it impossible for LeBron to beat them!
It was an amazing series in 2016 and the Cavs pulled off one of the greatest upsets ever... Does that mean that the warriors couldn't beat them the next year??
After Miami barely beat the Spurs in 2013, did the Spurs need a KD in order to beat Miami the next year?
GSW vs CLE would legit have been a rivalry for the ages if KD didn't go ruin everything and if Kyrie didn't want out.
Lol the difference is the spurs didn’t offer KD a contract lol that’s the difference between the Spurs & Warriors….let’s not act like it was normal for a championship caliber team to offer a player like KD a contract to come play….he didn’t even take a max contract to play for them
This might be the greatest comment I’ve seen on the matter. As a Bron fan even I can never say for sure if Cavs would’ve won the next 2 season if KD didn’t join at best I’d at least give them 1 more championship between the next 2 because those teams felt 50/50 in 2016. KD made it so GS was guaranteed title wins, very pathetic chain of events in my opinion, Steph probably would’ve even been better off winning another one against Cavs without KD there to get an earlier FMVP after being blatantly snubbed and could’ve gotten further without the narrative of calling KD to be unbeatable.
@@charliemack8585 of course I agree with you. What I'm saying is that the situation that the warriors were in after the 2016 finals was just like the spurs after 2013. And not one person in the world woulda thought back then that the only way to beat Miami was only if the spurs added i guy of KD's caliber.
It woulda been great finals basketball year after year had GSW stayed with the same team, or possibly upgraded their sf position a bit, and i bet the warriors woulda won one if not two of the next years rings without KD. Adding KD just made it impossible for them to lose. The notion that the warriors just could not beat LeBron without KD is just false in my opinion, was not proven. Winning in a game 7 going down to the wire does not mean that the cavs woulda beat them every year and that Steph woulda struggled the way he did in 2016 the coming years as well

Blew a 3-1 lead to the 73-9 warriors he joined in the western confrence finals too
KD joins a super team, wins with that one, and then orchestrates another one wherein he’s the leader and gets DOGGED in the playoffs. He can’t lead a championship team to save his life. He needs a C30 or a LJ to lead him. He’s a supporting star with the talent of a team leader, which is why everyone is so confused when evaluating him.
False, he lead those GS teams and took a young OKC to the finals. Brooklyn has been a mess irrespective of KD. When he was playing with rookies they were winning. That point Nick made at the end about the Warriors not getting that true credit for their achievements due to never facing any real on court adversity during the KD years was very well made and articulated in a way I hadn’t heard before.
Health permitting, they’d have just kept churning out championships and, because they would’ve continued to make it look easy, the general perception would be that it was, hence the lack of credit.
Why don’t we ever talk about how easy it was for the bulls to threepeat twice? For the Celtics to win 11 in a row? Why is it only modern day players that get dinged for having a great team but the old guys had the deck stacked every year and are considered legendary?
@@Nandoswitharando I’d say those Celtics get pretty widely dismissed for the lack of competition in the league at the time. Respected for their accomplishments no doubt, but that caveat is often included or implied somewhere.
The Bulls indeed 3peated twice. There was more depth to the league but MJ was ultimately just that guy.
It’s just a fact that the way KD joined the Warriors having had them down 3-1 in the playoffs the season beforehand did stack the deck massively. 2 league MVPs in their prime? Like Shaq and Kobe, they were supposed to win, and they did. Congrats, props, salute. But at some point, it’s applauding a fish for swimming - what else is it supposed to do?

KD needs to win another MVP, Championship and FMVP to complete his legacy. KD is far too talented not be top 10. He has the talent of a top 5 player easily. If he can achieve all of that he would arguably be back above Curry. They may leap frog him to 7 arguably.

I still can’t believe KD went to warriors.
KD won 2 rings and went from 22nd All Time to 12th All Time, so if he had won 7 with GS he would definitely be Top 5
This is why Nick is wrong:
KD shouldn’t be faulted for playing with Steph and Klay. Magic and Bird are where they are in the top ten and they played with superstars. KD on GS shouldn’t be held against him, and he should rightfully be in the all time top ten or five.
let's be clear, 2019 Toronto was the weakest champ in years. That's how it goes, sometimes you get gifted a ring like that.

Bron to Brooklyn!!!
If KD wins without the Warriors it'll probably look better for him than winning a few more with them. The problem is that it's looking like a bigger IF than probably even he thought. If his career ends without anymore chips then he's definitely worse off. And with the Warriors winning without him it's the worst look imaginable because the narrative he left to fight is now only looking more true (not saying that it necessarily is). Had he stayed it would've remained a mere narrative, and I agree that it would have only faded with time.
KD could've had 4 right now. And though I believe he still deserves credit for what he did there, had he ended his career in Golden State he would've been a hero. I don't think 6 or 7 rings was out of the realm of possibility. Now even some Warriors fans are against him and his detractors have more fuel to slander him with.
It's not impossible to turn it around but it's partly out of his hands at the moment. He needs a team and things are looking shaky where he's at
If KD is serious he needs to get the Nets management to get good healthy committed players to play on the team-Kyrie is in the same boat like Harden.

Good points all around. If Durant stayed, and Warriors ran-off a ridiculous number of championships, I think ppl would have to get passed their feelings and appreciate witnessing such dominance and greatness, like the Celtics of the 50's/60's. And it's not that unfair actually - it's only 2 great players together (like Kobe/Shaq, or Magic/Kareem). Sometimes we act like it's 5 of the top-7 players in the league. Everyone else was drafter by GS. Durant was their only 'big free agent'. He joined a 73-win team, but that team was mostly made from warriors draft picks - which shows how great Steph is.
You guys do realize that KD came back from a major injury. You guys act like he the same KD before the injury.
He needs to win a ring without Steph to validate his legacy, but why does it necessarily have to be in Brooklyn?
It doesn't but he won't win it anywhere else....
KD should win at least one more even if it's not with the Nets. If he sits down, and takes his time, and figures somewhere else to go, and make it happen, he will definitely be able to do that. One more and the chirping will lessen dramatically. Two more Championships and the only thing you would hear in any room, is KD's four rings tingling, rubbing up against each other
Come on now Chris the fact is they didnt need them. I heard no mention of 3-1 lead in western conference finals or 83-9 this all predated kd warriors.
GSW swept the trailblazers w/o KD
Trailblazers we’re swept by the Pels the year before so what’s your point 😂😂
If KD did not land in GSW, would he have any rings?
Yup he would have teamed up with Kawhi and the spurs and the Warriors would have never made it back to the finals
This KD was not needed hinges on the idea that the warriors would have beat the 2017 and 2018 cavs without him and man I don't think that is true. Did it leave a mark on those championships for both KD and steph of course it did
I doubt KD cares about winning a chip. He just wants to play.
KD's career is marred by defensive lapses. If we look at his stints in OKC and Brooklyn, scoring was always there, but the overarching team philosophy was more about outscoring an opponent than elite defense. In the 2012 Finals, the Thunder lost by two shots in 3 of the 4 losses. 2021, the Nets lost by one or two shots in 2 of 4 losses. 2022, the Nets lost by one or two shots in 4 of 4 losses. As long as Durant thinks street ball scoring is the key to winning, he'll probably get more of the same.

@@thecookj454 To become the greatest basketball franchise in NBA history yes they need KD. To compete for championships no they don't need him, but to win every championship and not lose to a team like Toronto yes they need KD! The Warriors had a chance to be the Patriots of the NBA. Would you get rid of Tom Brady? KD with Warriors easily another 3 ships. And the Warriors don't have 4-5 Allstars. Draymond barely scored 25 points combined in a 7 game series, Poole is not and Allstars yet, Wiggins maybe and Klay still not himself.
@@rowlandtolliver9560 the warriors will never be the greatest franchise in the NBA that belongs to the Lakers and the Celtics and stop comparing football to basketball that’s a dumb analogy. The warriors have curry all star mvp, draymond all star reserve, klay averged 18ppg in the finals and would have been a all star if he was healthy all year, Wiggins was a all star starter and Jordan Poole averged just under 25ppg in the first and second round. So yeah they have plenty of all star caliber talent. They won a chip before kd, after kd and they are going to win another
Kd being the best player on nets vs Celtics got swept
Steph best player vs Celtics won the finals 🤔
There was a ton of chatter for him to leave. If he was still a warrior now he'd still be getting dragged online everyday. Dude can't pls any of these ppl tbh
You ever just read the comments ? I mean where are the facts that y’all agreeing with? It’s always WHAT IF and not WHAT HAPPENED . Ever noticed how players get credit for things they never did
Without these stupid subjects. Chris and company will be home fishing. They need these topings to keep working
So he takes a dent to his legacy... he'll be fine.
If Lebron went to Celtics in 2010 after Celtics won a championship and lost in 2010 that would be a good comparison to what KD did.
I would say things worked out for everyone so far, KD got 2 rings and 2 FMVP and now Curry is top 10 all time on many ppl’s list. No need to hate on anyone, just enjoy it!
