  • Urban fly fishing at its best - I am just shocked of the quality of this fishery just minutes from the downtown district of Seattle Washington.

    Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

    So many good urban rivers and streams here in Western Washington. I love this one you’re on. Haven’t been there in awhile, but you don’t feel like you’re in an urban setting. Thanks Dan!

      So true - so weird to have a trout stream like this below a busy freeway overpass as it meanders through neighborhood. So cool!

    While I’ve only been to Seattle two times I was able to find some decent urban fishing. A local fly shop gave me a few suggestions and I was able to catch brook trout, rainbows and either cutthroats or cuttbows on dry flies. I live in the Chicago area so there’s no real trout fishing nearby that I can take off a few hours to fish. You’re a lucky guy Dan.
    I’ve noticed that you primarily use a sculpzilla as your go to streamer fly. Do you ever use wooly buggers. My primary searching pattern is a thin mint bugger.

    • @anonymous108
      @anonymous108 Před rokem

      I grew up in chicago for a few years, I will say smallmouth fishing and musky fishing around there is excellent.
      I caught them of piers and the Fox river.
      What about steelhead/lake run browns?

    • @FlyFishDan
      @FlyFishDan  Před rokem

      Thanks Dale - Seattle area really is pretty great for outdoors activities for sure, especially fishing. I do have a recent love affair with the sculpzilla - super effective pretty much everywhere! My new confidence fly for sure.

    Simple equation, bugs follow nutrients, fish follow bugs. I still wouldn't eat any fish that I caught there.

    • @FlyFishDan
      @FlyFishDan  Před rokem +1

      Surprisingly - though a ton of trash on the banks, the system is really healthy. Lots of white fish which usually is a good sign.

    One of my biggest fly rod steelhead ever came behind a sunken shopping cart on an urban creek in the roughly Vancouver washington area. Tons of debris and straight up litter in this very neglected super urban stream. Nobody fishes it. Hell you may need to be armed to fish it as its pretty dangerous there. ......but it gets summer and winter steelhead and has a population of rainbows and cuttthroat. Steelhead was 39 inches and 21 lbs. Unforgettable fish!!!!!

    "remain unnamed" but posts a video of the most easily identified west side rivers that any angler with a fly rod in their hand has either fished or heard of. Hmm, great fishing spot security ya got going here.
    Super click bait title too. Sure millions of commuters drive by daily, however most of them don't even fish.
