Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Sound, practical advice, as usual, sir. Well done.
Thank you!
I really liked this vid Dan. I always wonder if I'm spending enough time trying something, or wondering when to switch it up. I appreciate your insight and find it helpful to hear what others do. I agree... getting skunked is part of the process, and only makes us want to get back out there all the sooner! Thanks again!
You are most welcome and well said - thank you for the great comments!
Great video! I’ve recently got back into my fly fishing for about 6 months now and I got ‘skunked’ for the first time last weekend and yep - it’s upsetting. I’m gonna try out some of your advice - the leader weight being one that interested me the most. Thanks again for the great advice 👍
Nice! Glad to hear you picked the fly rod back up. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for your great comments. Cheers!
Thanks for all the tips man I just started fly fishing and all this info is very easy to understand!

You are most welcome!
Great stuff! Thanks Dan.
Thanks!
Just loved the video.thanks for making them..
My pleasure - thanks for taking the time to watch!
I basically have one fly that i use, sometimes 2, at the moment i have no reason to change it because I outfish most people every time, even guys who are trolling. I just sit there, cast out a sinking line with a 4-5 ft leader and unweighted fly, finger roll, pause, when line gets vertical ish, recast, they usually hit it in the middle half of the retrieve, trolling it can also work if you give some action and stops.
Just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed.I just wanna say how great and informative your videos are!

Great vid dude, i’m from South Africa and I’ve never heard of indicators for fly fishing, so definitely learnt something new!
Nice! Thanks! Very cool you are watching from across the globe!
Thanks for the demystification!
My pleasure!
Awesome vid 👌 I'm in alberta and I love watching you, just wish I had lakes like that close to me 🥲
Thank you! I appreciate that! Cheers! I hope you are well up in Alberta! :))
Awesome information, still waters can be mysterious, unlike moving water hard to find structure & fishy places,I carry another line,a clear intermediate for fishing over submerged weed beds or structure, tie 2 different colors of buggers & works sometimes, tight lines & bent rods 🤘
Thank you David - I also appreciate the insight. Cheers and FISH-ON!!
You definitely have a good mix of flies.
My go to fly in cold water is a white marabou or spey streamer on a sink-tip line.
Lake fish cruise all over the place.
Downed trees, points, ledges & humps are good places to try.
My name's Dan too...
A good name that is too :)). Some great tips you shared - thank you for that! I appreciate you taking the time to watch - thank you! Cheers!
Love the video. I had a question and doing research it’s hard to see. With your flies do you use barbless or barbed flies?
Nice video , good tips , subscribed .
Welcome to my channel!
Thank you!
You bet!
@@FlyFishDan hey are you going to be at the Washington sportsman show this weekend?
You should come up north to the FF only lake near Anacortes. I’m sure you’ve fished it before but it’s been pretty good this spring.
I’ll have to check it out!
Great videos Dan! What float tube are you using?
Thank you Jesse! I use the Outcast 'FAT CAT' float tube. Great boat!
Dan have you ever been to cooper lake around cle elum? Very pretty lake with a variety of trout in it.
I have not - thank you so much for the tip!
Good stuff Dan, where did you get your bamboo net ? Looks really nice
Thanks! Hellbender nets, upstream is what my wife got me for Christmas :))
Thanks, she's a keeper
I’ve only ever fly fished my lake. Caught baby baby bluegill and crappie, but nothing more. I’d like another fly fisherman to fish with so I can get many tips and tricks
Nice! Well - you have come to the right place! My channel is loaded full of helpful vids. Cheers!
Hey Dan
When fish are off the bite and on daphnia do you use blob flies to imitate balls of daphnia?
Hey there - occasionally I have used the mop fly and that seems to work well when the bite is slow or off.
Are you fishing the Damselfly nymphs below an indicator or on the sinking line?
I have - it's effective way, especially if you give it a bit of slow movement.
How does air presser hold up in your u boat since its either after ice out or before the pond ices up
If I don't over inflate it by a half pound, it starts to get a bit soft. Sometimes the temp swing is so great - it just turns into a taco tube once the sun goes down...Lol
I know quite a few stillwater fishers who will painstakingly examine the waters, look under rocks, check the surface for shucks.... then fish a chirominid. Every time. They might have 1/2 dozen rods all set up... they they're ALL set up with indicators for chronie fishing. And they have flyboxes filled with literally HUNDREDS of... chrominids. Weird....
Are you located in Oregon?
I am up in Washington State - but fly fish all over the PNW. Cheers!
Fishing right now in England just paid £50 for a ticket no joy lol
That's pricey! Hopefully you got into some fish!
would be more enjoyable with less cuts when you get a bite
One of my earlier videos, you’ll see my editing has improved substantially since then. Thanks for tuning in!
