Ah, high end capitalism. If they're the only ones to provide a service, they can charge what they like for it. Did they pull some shady shenanigans so it doesn't count as a monopoly? Probably. Is it morally correct? Absolutely not
Apple has been doing that for ages. The cost to repair an iphone is either the same price or more expensive than it is to just manufacture a new one, so if they can't fix it or just don't want to, they can simply copy over your data and hand you a new one without losing money. This ensures they can ONLY make a profit from the transaction.
Note that you don't get to buy a phone at manufacturing price, nor are they required in any way to reveal how much it costs for them to make their products in bulk, but typically it's a mark-up of 100% or more. If the phone cost 500 to manufacture, they'll charge you 1,000+ to buy it, but this is based off of the standard prices an average person would pay for the materials to build a phone. When you buy in bulk directly from a source that produces said product, you'd be surprised how much less it costs overall, meaning that reduces the actual manufacturing cost to make the phones.
Every company does this to varying degrees. Always remember this though as a rule: The cost of repair will never be less than it costs for them to roll a new one off a production line. EVER.

I ran into that problem with my laptop. The charging port was busted so instead of sending it to a repair place to get it fixed, my dad bought the part online for 20$ and we repaired it ourselves.

I bought a cintiq second-hand from kijiji. I stayed about an hour testing and poking, making sure it was working. The guy who sold it to me was very nice, and even said if it wasn’t compatible with my OS I could send it back for a full refund.
It’s worked like a charm ever since, and have never had a problem! Glad you got another companion, though!

I know it’s been like 4 years but- this video is like my first go to story time video to watch while I’m animating or making art or even just bored! It helps me concentrate and I’ve watched this video so many times to the point where I have like the whole video memorized 😅
The best way to avoid these scams are by making sure you have a TOS (terms of service page) clearly shown in your shop or post which can state explicitly that refunds are possible but only if there is proof of the broken product. Works like a charm.

Sooo... I was sued on the internet too..
A year back, my dad decided to save money by buying a second hand Nintendo switch lite... and we got SCAMMED. Of course I was 13 and capable enough to get my own with my own money, yet I was broke. My dad being the nice guy he is, bought one for me for around 300 USD. And you totally will believe what happened next, don’t worry.
Some sort of speaker thing arrived in the mail instead. It was a package for my dad, but he didn’t remember ever getting something like it. So we just... panicked. But my dad sent it back and got back his money back (I’m trying to shorten this...) and we got it. At least we didn’t technically get scammed, but hey, it’s a story.
Thanks for reading if you read it all, and sorry about that rant.

I thought there would be more about actual being sued. Instead of ending where he just tells you that hes going to sue. The art work is beyond captivating, lol i could watch it twice just because its sooo good
What would they sue the person over? "Hey, I sold this person a tablet claiming it had no prior problems, and then when they ran into the problem I had already fixed they tried to get a refund while still inside the return-by date!" Even if the person seriously thought they'd have a chance at winning, the cost of the legal fees would be higher than the return. They were talking a big game in order to try and make her give up.

That’s why I mainly use amazon. eBay can be pretty sketchy (not that I’m saying that amazon doesn’t have its sketchy moments either) but I’ve seen more scam artists on eBay than amazon. Also look at the pictures. Whenever I’m buying a used item online I only look at items that have multiple pictures of the product so I can zoom in.

Amazon stuff has been blowing up.... so yea.... just dont get Amazon's devices make sure it's from a trusted seller if you are buying it through Amazon and not actually from Amazon or else your devices might blow up and cause a house fire....
I've never had a problem with Amazon. I used it to get my switch, my games, controllers, clothes, art supplies, and cat stuff. So far it's been fine. I guess that's because I look into the product before ordering
