For anyone wondering why they don’t use actual teens. Child labor laws. Anyone under 18 have strict laws about filming and such. 17 year olds can only do 8 hours a day. And the hours lessen the younger the age. Shows that have super young main characters are nightmares for the crew because they have to get everything done within that time. So for something like this it’s just not ideal for film makers.
Yes, and the same problem stranger things is having: the cast is visibly aging and it makes show continuity difficult. It’s not impossible, but hiring young looking adult men is a safer bet than an adolescent who is probably going to hit a growth spurt.

G&G is one of two shows that accurately represented teens irl. And not just Appearance but their social constructs cringey interactions and everything in between. I feel like I’m blasted back into high school whenever I watch that show bc that’s exactly how people were. The other show I think did a really good job representing teens and a real high school atmosphere is Heartstopper.
