Emongg is like the opposite of flats, he’s so supportive and it never feels like he’s “roasting” the lower levels of ranked. He feels like a caring overwatch dad who is just trying to help you rank up!

The most important lesson I've learned as a mercy player is to not follow teammates into situations that will get you killed.
then they get mad that you didn't. one thing i learned as a mercy player is communication is sooo important. even just typing in chat. just mentioning a few things in a game has changed a game for me.

If they're still not climbing after all this time it most likely means they've developed a couple of bad habits that they probably don't even realize they're doing. There's nothing wrong with being stuck at a rank, it happens and can be fixed when you get rid of those bad habits 😊

It honestly hurts me to see them just heal majority of the game, plus there’s better characters to hard pocket than the Widow
Another tip! I don’t recommend dmg boosting a widow over a soldier, the soldier is more favorable to pocket opposed to widowmaker who already does a lot of headshot dmg by herself. Keeping your dmg boost on soldier helps a ton with getting picks and ult charge for visor :)
+ Check allied healthbars to switch to dmgboost if they don’t need the heals!

@@Daaisies I have 1200 and know better than they do. Hell, OW is technically my first competitive shooter. It's not like these are hard to grasp concepts, but at 4200 hours theres basic mistakes you should NOT be doing.

Just be aware that the 4200 hours is on the game and not the mercy hero, emongg said this at 0:05, the person always play ana and decide to play mercy because they duo with a DPS,
so the mercy movement and Rez decision is understandable because the person may not be playing mercy for a long time and get used to certain mechanics

They really need to work on their movement as Mercy and their damage boost.
With the current state of the game, there are not many reasons for an Ana player to swap TO Mercy. Maybe if they have a flier dps (or two). I'm honestly baffled why this person chose to play Mercy in this situation, ESPECIALLY with their co-support being on Lucio, and their clear lack of comfort with playing Mercy. There's definitely a lot of poor decision making here. Wish we could've seen their Ana.
Unless you really don't want to do coaching, it'd be cool if (even for a one-off occurrence) for you to actually be in the same voice call giving them commentary suggesting how to respond to certain situations. Like a more practical approach as compared to a reflective approach. It'll be easier and more engaging to see players adapt instead of doing the same thing for 10-20 minutes
That's a damn good idea. Learning from your mistakes is one thing, but learning in the moment seems a whole lot more useful.

Anyways to the person who submitted this - I know you said you typically play Ana and you’re a tank main so big props to you for submitting a VOD! A couple of things I will say as someone who plays a lot of Mercy is this:
- practice her vertical movement. Being able to fly around in the sky makes her a difficult target to hit (I know you said you don’t know how to play sky mercy lol it takes practice!)
- damage boost > healing. Set your damage boost as your primary fire so you have to THINK about healing. Setting dmg boost on primary made me improve a lot on Mercy. Set a goal for damage amplified for every game (I have mine set for at least 1,300 dmg amp per game for now).
- know who is a better target to damage boost/pocket. Heroes like soldier/bastion/sojourn/echo/etc are really good.
- don’t always rely on your duo. They’re also in silver for a reason. With that said - prioritize staying alive! Don’t risk a rez in the middle of the open, when your team is losing a fight start to back away and don’t feed!

I feel like emong can coach a team to gm fairly easily
The easiest thing to do to get better at Mercy is learn how to not be on the floor. Cycling your dash cool down to fly is a key basic tenant of Mercy. Keep some distance, dash to your teammate, press ctrl (or whatever your up dash key is), hold space, repeat.
Also don't insta rez.
Spamming super jump nonstop is a great way to take unnecessary damage especially if this player ever climbs. It's a bad habit. This player just needs to think about their own positioning and try to use cover. Build good habits.

This is what happens when you assume playing more means youll learn more. If you arent actively analyzing your play, youll stagnate forever.
tbh this is what most pro players do. they get asked "how did you get so good?" and the likely answer is "i play a lot".

i believe they have sessions with their coaches everyday to analyze their plays what they should do to improve , thats like having a lot of math problems to think on and then talking with your teacher to see what you did good and wrong which is the best way to learn @@finesseandstyle

So I am pretty sure the other support actually wanted mercy, the Lucio, swap to zen, and eventually to Moira when they finally accept that you won't give up Mercy for the throw pick is so incredibly common (and pathetic) that yeah. I am pretty sure that was what the other support was doing: Trying to force our girl off of mercy.
But yeah, my advice to our spectatee, is to either look into mercy guides for improving on her, as there is value to playing mercy with a reliable DPS duo, or to stay with what they know best.
I heavily recommend Skiesti for Mercy guides.
I think this mercy's greatest mistake was having the mindset of having to pocket their duo. In a game you gotta do what you gotta do and most of the time what you gotta do is not follow the plan you had in your mind and adapt to what is going on.

16:40 how didn’t he point out the extreme tunnel vision here, the ramatra is taking sm damage on their right and i could make that out with the screen being slightly covered. seconds later after healing, immediate tunnel vision again, on the left bastion was taking hits pushing back and was low. i’m amazed they survived though

TIPS!!!!!!: if theres not a lot of hit scans or no hit scan, then try to be on high
ground more and fly around more. try to just be annoying so people cant get you.
DONT GO OUT OF POSITION TOO MUCH!!
if your team dies try to fly away but if you cant, its okay regroup with them. DONT COME IN ONE BY ONE.
if you want to rez somebody make sure its safe enough and theres natural cover you can hide behind while rezzing them. TRY to Make sure there is someone near you as well so you arent really alone.
You can also help your team by damage boosting a projectile character like soldier or bastion. (ESPECIALLY BASTION IN HIS TURRET FORM AND SOLDIER FOR HIS ULT)
ALSO NOTE: when you damage boost it makes the person your damage boosting ultimate percentage go up faster. So damage boost the person you really think the ultimate will help your team. (mainly dps) i have done this many times in comp games.
make sure you let your other support know to heal people and protect people while your damage boosting someone. it can be hard to heal everybody as mercy, try to focus on everybody but dont always go to them because your other support could save them and you could leave the person you are damage boosting and then they could die. Please Ping your enemies so they can be seen for a little while it is very helpful for your team.
Also dont be afraid to pull your pistol out, but make sure its to help out and not just try to “tank” as mercy and only do damage. Also make sure not to heal bot, but healbotting can be helpful in lower ranks.
IF YOUR TANK IS AN IDIOT AND PUSHES UP ALONE DONT BE AFRAID TO CALL THEM OUT.
one time i did all of this and and used my teammates to help me get out of bad situations and i had 0 deaths
please dont judge my tips this can be helpful for beginners, its really helped me right now im gold 5 and ive been ranking up.

I wanna say, remember your beam gets longer after connecting it and you don’t have to be standing right behind your tank to be helping them. Try standing almost as far as the beam can and it can bend so try to be behind corners and objects. Please

The way I look at it. If I played basketball and was never coached and kept doing the same things over and over again but never knew why. I wouldn't be very good either. Once you have someone helping you correct your mistakes and you practice what you learned it's helpful. So many players me included don't know what we did wrong sometimes but if we are shown in the moment by a coach it helps tremendously.
As a Silver support player, if this Mercy is Silver, I should be Plat
It’s like first 4 minutes and bingo is ready.
1. Using guardian angel on cooldown
2. Bad positioning
3. Poor control over your moves
4. Staying still
5. Prioritising healing over boost even when it’s not needed
6. Risky useless res (Mercy’s survival is more important for the team, be selfish if it’s not absolutely necessary and rational not to be)
7. Questionable boost priority, there’s not a single character bad for boosting, just better once
8. Playing Mercy + Lucio in the first place. Tho It can go fine in some combs (especially with self healing heroes), but Mercy’s main feature is her boosting abilities, you can’t do as much when there’s 2 sub healers in ur team, so it’s better to pick someone who don’t need to sacrifice their impact for healing (Ana or Bap for example)

As someone who Mains Lucio and Mercy, playing them together is not as bad as everyone thinks, providing you have the right tank. If you have a Ball, Doom, Sigma or JQ, then it is actually playable proving both the supports adjust their play style. (JQ with speed and damage boost is deadly btw)
Zarya or Hog can work too
Lucio/Mercy can work sometimes, but usually only if you're Lucio is a healbot and never uses speed and Mercy never uses DB. Knowing what healer team comps put you at a disadvantage is important for pulling off wins.

I am at 5mins 43secs. I played quite a bit of Mercy, main Bap/Brig now. Recently I have become irrationally upset when I see stupid players on Mercy, due to the fact of them massively healbotting, not using ga to get to better cover, not using cover, hugging the tank as if it wouldn't get them killed, ect. Mind you. I don't saying anything to the mercy, just gets me irrational knowing that they could do so much more, instead of healing a full hp player.

Mercy - Lucio is fine as long as the Lucio recognizes he needs to prioritize group healing. The hidden positive here is that Lucio will build his ultimate faster than normal. With a mind to saving Amp for speed boost for offensive ults. Mercy's ult becomes slightly more heal-centric when she ults, unless they ult at the same time.
Ive made this comment on another video somewhat similar to this one ironically but, how after ALL that time do you not improve. Like even just through the natural process of like oh this doesnt work i should stop doing this. I just generally cant wrap my head around how your brain doesnt naturally pick up on things that you should and shouldnt do. And for those that are saying "just playing for fun" then this whole video is pointless because they sent this to emongg with the distinct purpose of learning how to not be hard stuck.

really need to work on movement, need to play behind more cover, stay with a dps, damage boost more, not rez in risky situations, and not healbot, it can affect your other support since your not allowing them to get ult charge especially if your running mercy with any low healing output heroes.

Something i learned as a mercy main is to ALWAYS look for other ways espicially when getting away or trying to reach a certain place.
For example when the mercy was trying to rez the widow she couldve superjumped using the soldier to reach the soul or the orisa if she were close enough

It's okay to do it in a widow duel for the rez, but the enemy team didn't have a widow and the sight lines are not long enough for the damage boost to matter on this map.

now i main lucio but what you say at around 2:00 idk if i totally agree, like i'd been in many matches where this match up actually doesn't feel too bad... obv an ana is a whole hella lot better (not just saying that because i randomly get nano'd sometimes by mistake and go all boostio) but like.... mercy can technically keep up with lucio and the mercy can pocket the tank and a high valued dps and ya'll can just steamroll alot of the time, plus one thing i like is being able to be like a consistent guardian target for our mercy to fly to whenever she's getting targeted... like lotta times enemies just ignore me because im to hard to hit and i'd be able to zip back and peel for the mercy while also allowing her to gtfo of danger.
with all that said a good mercy doesn't need that if she knows where to position. but ana lucio is awesome the nade with his amp is like full hp team ez
Hard disagree with this. When you climb, enemies will not ignore you because they can aim, and mercy does not want to GA into the enemy so having an aggressive Lucio as a GA target has no value. Also, if mercy is pocketing a tank the whole time then big value is being missed.
Mercy is meant to give most heals to the other support so she can dam boost on whoever is playing aggro. Just because you have won matches with the comp shown nothing. Climbing is about finding the "optimal"' Lucio and mercy is faaaaaar from optimal.
